A deep pulse in the hand indicates Qi disorder. If extremely deep, it becomes a Fu (hidden) pulse; if choppy and weak, it is difficult to treat. If deep and slippery, it indicates Qi disorder complicated by Phlegm-Fluids. It is also said: Deep, wiry, thin, and moving pulses are all symptoms of Qi pain. Heart pain corresponds to the Cun (inch) position, abdominal pain to the Guan (bar) position, and lower body pain to the Chi (cubit) position; the pulse manifestations are clear. Anger causes Qi to ascend; joy causes Qi to relax; shock causes Qi to become chaotic; fear causes Qi to descend; labor exhausts Qi; grief makes Qi urgent; and overthinking knots Qi. All these can cause disease. Generally, there is no tonification method for Qi disorders, but there are cases where tonification is appropriate.
