This formula treats individuals prone to "Pi Yue" (Spleen Constraint) who contract external pathogens, serving as a preventive measure against dryness and constipation. The formula uses Huomaren and Xingren to moisten intestinal dryness, Shaoyao to nourish yin blood, Zhishi and Dahuang to purge excess heat, and Houpo to break up stagnant qi. However, it must only be used when external pathogens have transformed into heat internally; otherwise, it is inappropriate. Later generations used this formula indiscriminately to treat constipation in the elderly due to fluid depletion and blood dryness, seeking only temporary relief without regard for further damaging true qi, thereby hastening adverse consequences.
