Dongqi (Abdominal Pulsation) refers to the sensation of throbbing or jumping within the abdomen.
If Dongqi is located on the right, sweating therapy should not be used; if sweating therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to epistaxis (nosebleed), thirst, and mental restlessness with discomfort in the heart region, where drinking water induces vomiting (The *Huoren* book states: first administer Wuling San [Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction] three times, then follow with Zhuye Tang [Bamboo Leaf Decoction]).
If Dongqi is located on the left, sweating therapy should not be used; if sweating therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to stiffness of the head, incessant sweating, twitching of the sinews, and tremors of the muscles (The *Huoren* book states: first administer Fangfeng Baizhu Muli San [Saposhnikovia, Atractylodes, and Oyster Shell Powder], and after the sweating stops, administer Jianzhong Tang [Middle-Building Decoction]; see the section on Spontaneous Sweating for the formula).
If Dongqi is located above, sweating therapy should not be used; if sweating therapy is mistakenly applied, it will cause Qi to rush upward, stopping precisely at the cardiac end (The *Huoren* book states: Ligen Tang [Pyrus Betulaefolia Root Bark Decoction] is suitable; see the section on Qi Rushing Upward to the Heart for the formula).
If Dongqi is located below, sweating therapy should not be used; if sweating therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to anhidrosis (absence of sweat), severe mental restlessness, painful bone joints, vertigo, aversion to cold, vomiting upon eating, and the inability to ingest food grains (The *Huoren* book states: first administer Dajupi Tang [Large Tangerine Peel Decoction], and after the vomiting stops, administer Xiao Jianzhong Tang [Small Middle-Building Decoction]).
If Dongqi is located on the right, purgative therapy should not be used; if purgative therapy is mistakenly applied, it will deplete internal body fluids, leading to dryness of the throat and nose, dizziness, and palpitations.
If Dongqi is located on the left, purgative therapy should not be used; if purgative therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to abdominal tension and cramping, inability to eat, and exacerbation of the Dongqi symptoms. Even if there is fever in the body, the patient will desire to curl up while lying down.
If Dongqi is located above, purgative therapy should not be used; if purgative therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to heat and restlessness in the palms, alternating sensations of cold and heat on the body, spontaneous leakage of cold sweat, a desire for water, and a wish to pour water over oneself.
If Dongqi is located below, purgative therapy should not be used; if purgative therapy is mistakenly applied, it will lead to abdominal distension and fullness, dizziness upon sudden rising, passage of undigested food grains after eating, and epigastric stuffiness (Pi syndrome).
