Treating *Madao Chuang* (scrofula with hard, stone-like nodules), which may present as hard masses in the area from below the ear to the *Quepen* (supraclavicular fossa), on the shoulder, or under the hypochondrium; these locations correspond to the pathways of the Hand and Foot Shaoyang meridians. It also covers *Luoli* (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis) spreading across the chin or reaching the *Jiache* acupoint. If the masses are hard and un-ulcerated, they belong to the Foot Yangming meridian. Whether the sores have already ulcerated and discharged pus and fluid, or present as described above, this prescription treats all such conditions.
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 8 qian, washed with wine; half raw, half stir-fried), Caolongdan (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, washed with wine, stir-fried four times each), Gualualgen (Trichosanthis Radix, crushed and washed with wine), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, processed with wine), Jiuzhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, processed with wine), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Kunbu (Laminariae Thallus, each 5 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 4 qian), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata), Jing Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, washed with wine), Guangzhu (Zedoary Rhizoma, washed with wine and stir-fried), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, each 3 qian), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Danggui Shao (Angelicae Sinensis Radix tip), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, each 2 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 6 fen).
The above herbs are coarsely chopped. For each dose, use 6 qian, add two *zhan* (units of liquid volume) plus eight *fen*, soak for more than half a day, then decoct until one *zhan* remains. Strain the dregs and take hot after meals. While taking the medicine, lie down with feet elevated high and head lowered. Hold one mouthful of the decoction and swallow it in ten portions. After finishing the dose, rest normally. This is because the medicine tends to accumulate above the diaphragm. Alternatively, prepare half of the material into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take over one hundred pills per dose, swallowing them with a mouthful reserved from the decoction. Adding Haizao (Sargassum Thallus, 5 qian, stir-fried) is also effective.
Treating *Luoli* encircling the neck or extending to the *Jiache* acupoint: these originate from the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. If the sore is deep, hidden, or located at the muscle base, it originates from the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. This represents the transmission from Wu Earth (Spleen) to Gui Water (Kidney), i.e., husband transmitting to wife. Both conditions result in hard masses of varying sizes and are treated with this prescription. Pills may also be prepared.
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 8 qian), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Caolongdan (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, processed with wine), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, processed with wine), Guangzhu (Zedoary Rhizoma, washed with wine and stir-fried), Jing Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, washed with wine and stir-fried), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, washed with wine), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, each 5 qian), Sheng Huangqin (Raw Scutellariae Radix, 4 qian), Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix body), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, each 3 qian), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, washed with wine, 2 qian), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, washed with wine and stir-fried, 1 liang).
Take half of the above herbs separately, grind into powder, and mix with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take over one hundred pills per dose. The other half is coarsely chopped: take 5 qian per dose. If the patient has an appetite and hard stool, the dose can be gradually increased to 7–8 qian. Add two *zhan* of water, soak for half a day, decoct until one *zhan* remains, strain, and take hot before sleep. Elevate feet, remove pillow, lie supine. Hold one mouthful and swallow in ten portions, reserving the last mouthful to swallow the pills. After administration, resume normal sleeping posture.
