Method One: When sleeping, do not open your mouth; doing so for a long time may lead to Xiao Ke disease (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) and cause the complexion to lose its luster. Chisongzi said: "Lie down, close your eyes, and practice breath retention twelve times; this can treat indigestion."
Method Two: Loosen your clothes and lie down quietly; extend your waist towards the lower abdomen, hold for five breaths, then stop. Guide the Qi of the Kidney to eliminate Xiao Ke disease and harmonize Yin and Yang. Loosening clothes removes physical obstructions. Lying down eliminates external thoughts, allowing Qi to flow easily. Extending the waist prevents compression of the Kidneys. "Nuding" (straining/forcing Qi) fills the body with Qi. "Lower Abdomen" refers to contracting the abdomen to draw Qi in for five breaths. Guiding the Kidney Qi draws fluid up to the throat to moisten the upper body, eliminating the dryness of Xiao Ke disease. Harmonizing Yin and Yang increases vitality. Avoid these practices when feeling weak, adjusting according to the seasons. Do not practice Daoyin (guiding and pulling exercises) immediately after eating or when extremely hungry, as it harms the body. Also avoid inauspicious days or times of seasonal disharmony. After Daoyin, walk 120 steps, or up to 1,000 steps, before eating. Food should not be too hot or cold; the Five Flavors should be balanced. Do not eat stale leftovers or food contaminated by insects. Chew food thoroughly and swallow slowly. Do not sleep immediately after eating. This is called "Grain Medicine"; combined with harmonious Qi, it is true good medicine.
Commentary: When sleeping, do not open your mouth; otherwise, over time it will cause Xiao Ke disease and make the face lose its color. Chisongzi said: "Lie down, close your eyes, and practice breath retention twelve times; this can treat indigestion."
Chisongzi was an ancient Qigong master. Legend has it that Zhang Liang, a strategist for Emperor Gaozu of Han, learned Daoyin and Bigu (grain avoidance) techniques from Chisongzi at Tianshan Mountain. Chisongzi consumed Polygonum multiflorum (He Shou Wu) and Polygonatum sibiricum (Huang Jing), and taught Zhang Liang Daoyin techniques such as gazing at the nose, aligning the nose with the navel, and pressing the Qimen acupoint with both elbows. Volume 59 of *Yunji Qiqian* contains a preface to Chisongzi's Breath-Swallowing Sutra, which states: "The Heavenly Way is long, and all things are unequal; human life is precious, sharing the same grade as Yin and Yang. The Heavenly Way is straightforward; practicing it without confusion... Therefore it is said: Ceasing grain and avoiding food is the path to life; returning essence through Yin and Yang is a great treasure. Practicing this constantly ensures longevity; why indulge desires to age oneself? Billions spend fortunes on funerals, weeping and regretting. Is it not better to practice non-action and swallow Qi, cultivating diligently to ascend to heaven?" *Biographies of Divine Immortals* states: "Chisongzi was the Rain Master during the time of Shennong; he took Jade Water to teach Shennong and could enter fire and burn himself..." This completely deifies him into a god-immortal. Historical records indicate Chisongzi was a Han Dynasty Qigong master, and his role as Zhang Liang's teacher is indeed factual.
Loosen clothes, lie down quietly, extend the waist, sink Qi into the lower abdomen, hold for five breaths, guide Qi into the Kidneys to eliminate Xiao Ke disease and harmonize Yin and Yang. Loosening clothes allows Qi to flow unimpeded during Daoyin. Quiet lying eliminates delusions, making Qi circulation easier. Extending the waist prevents kidney compression. Contracting the abdomen draws Qi to the Dantian, filling the lower abdomen; gather Qi here for five breaths. Guiding the Kidney brings Kidney water to the throat to moisten the upper part, removing the withering of Xiao Ke disease. Harmonizing Yin and Yang strengthens vitality. If weakness occurs during Daoyin, observe taboos according to the season. Do not practice Daoyin right after eating or when excessively hungry, as it damages the body. Avoid bad days and times of seasonal disharmony. After Daoyin, walk 120 steps, or up to 1,000 steps, then eat. Food should not be too hot or cold; the Five Flavors must be balanced. Stale overnight food and remnants eaten by insects must not be consumed. Eat in small bites, chew thoroughly, and swallow slowly. Do not sleep immediately after eating. This is called Grain Medicine; combined with harmonious Qi, it is truly good medicine.
Summary: This section focuses on postures and their significance during practice, as well as precautions and dietary taboos. The description is detailed, so no further discussion is needed.
