It has remarkable efficacy in treating Huangpan disease (a condition characterized with sallow complexion, edema, emaciation, and fatigue), the effect is wonderful beyond words.

For seasonal epidemics in summer, as well as Shanghan (Cold Damage) and Shangfeng (Wind-Cold invasion), it is appropriate to use Shishen Tang (Ten-God Decoction), modifying it according to accompanying symptoms.
Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Zisuye (Perillae Folium) (each 7 fen), Qiange (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (1.5 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (7 fen), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each 8 fen).
To the above, add San pian Jiang (Three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Wu cun Congbai (Five cun of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), Danshichi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) (1.5 qian).
Decoct with 1.5 zhong of water until reduced to 0.8 zhong. Take hot. If there is no sweating, aversion to cold, and fever, follow this formula; if heat is severe, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (1.5 qian) and Shigao (Gypsi Fibrosus) (2 qian); if there is sweating, remove Mahuang and Congbai.
Shuangjie San (Double-Resolution Powder), formulated by Mr. Hejian (Liu Wansu), is a combination of Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Wind-Protecting Universal-Pass Powder) and Yiyuan San (Benefit-Origin Powder). It is specifically used for summer Shanghan and epidemic febrile diseases, modified according to observed symptoms, which is highly appropriate. However, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), and Mahuang must be adjusted gradually based on indications: if there is spontaneous diarrhea, remove Dahuang and Mangxiao; if there is spontaneous sweating, remove Mahuang, Congbai, and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix). Fangfeng Tongsheng San (see Spring category), Yiyuan San is also known as Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder) (see previous text in this category).
The Neijing states: "The three months of autumn are called 'Rongping' (the state where things mature and converge). The heavenly qi is urgent, and the earthly qi is clear. Go to bed early and rise early, waking with the chickens. Keep your will peaceful to soothe the autumn shape; gather your spirit to keep the autumn qi level. Do not let your will go outward, so that the Lung qi remains pure. This is the response to the autumn qi and the way to nourish convergence. Violating it injures the Lung, leading to Sunxie (undigested food diarrhea) in winter, because there is less essence stored for conservation." Generally, in the three months of autumn, the heavenly qi descends clearly, and human qi also descends. Therefore, various ailments in autumn are suitable for Xia method (referring to purgation/downward draining) and Fenli method (referring to promoting urination). Clearing heat and harmonizing are appropriate, while ascending and dispersing are not. In autumn, the Metal qi of the Lung and Large Intestine is dominant. When Metal is strong, Wood is constrained, leading to various stagnations, Qi disorders, pains, sores, and accumulations. Treatment should be adjusted according to the severity of symptoms. Thus, in autumn, it is appropriate to cultivate Spleen Earth to generate Lung Metal, nourish Kidney Water to support Liver Wood, nourish Blood to moisten dryness, reduce excess, and supplement deficiency. This is the general principle. Now, the formulas suitable for various autumn ailments are detailed below. Apply them flexibly according to symptoms, avoiding the error of "making excess more excess and deficiency more deficient."
