For injuries caused by consuming frozen beverages, administer Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction), three qian or four qian bi per dose, decocted with fresh ginger.
For injuries involving both food stagnation and consumption of frozen beverages, decoct Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction) to take with Banxia Zhizhu Wan (Pinellia and Atractylodes Macrocephala Pill).
For injuries from frozen beverages where there is no aversion to cold, abdominal coldness is not felt, but only a sensation of oppression and heaviness in the body, indigestion, or difficult urination, decoct Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction) without Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), and adjust the dosage according to the previously mentioned principles.
Suppose the injurious factors differ before and after; using a ratio of three parts, if two parts are due to hot substances and one part to cold, raw, or hard substances, use two parts of the cold-natured Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill) and one part of the warm-natured Muxiang Jian Wan (Aucklandia Pill [Note: 'Jian' likely refers to a specific variant or ingredient missing in text]), mixed and taken together. Conversely, if two parts are due to cold/raw substances and one part to hot substances, use two parts of Muxiang Jian Wan (Aucklandia Pill) and one part of Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill), mixed and taken together.
In the summer heat, if injured by cold, raw, or hard substances, treat with the warm-natured Muxiang Jian Wan (Aucklandia Pill), but add a small amount of Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill). This is because one must not violate the seasonal climate; thus, cold herbs are added to align with the season. If injured by hot substances, use only Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill). Why? Because Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill) is a seasonal remedy.
In the deep winter cold, if injured by hot substances such as mutton or wet noodles, treat with Sanhuang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill), but add a small amount of warm herbs, such as Caodoukou Wan (Black Cardamom Pill), as a guide and also as a seasonal remedy. The Classic states: "First ascertain the annual Qi, do not violate the Heavenly Harmony." This is what is meant; other cases follow this pattern.
When the pulse is present at the upper position (cun) but absent at the lower position (chi), the patient should vomit; if vomiting does not occur, death ensues. Why? Absence of pulse at the lower position is termed "Wood Stagnation" (Liver Qi Depression). Overeating fills and obstructs the chest. The chest is the domain of the Taiyin Spleen. The Classic states: "The Qi Kou pulse is three times larger than the Ying Kou pulse," indicating food injury to the Taiyin Spleen. Therefore, it is said that "when Wood is stagnant, it must be dispersed"; vomiting is the method used.
Gengti (Thistle Fruit), Chixiaodou (Red Bean) (equal parts)
Grind these two ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Take one qian bi per dose, mixed with warm Jiangshui (fermented rice water). Induce vomiting until achieved. Do not use this medicine immediately unless the Chi pulses at both wrists are completely absent, for fear of damaging Yuan Qi (Primal Qi) and preventing the recovery of Wei Qi (Stomach Qi). If there is merely chest obstruction, stuffiness, and confusion without complete pulse absence, induce vomiting by stimulating the throat with a finger; if unsuccessful, use an object to stimulate the throat. Stop once vomiting occurs. If food remains, use this medicine to expel it.
Explanation: Abundant food filling the chest causes obstruction. The Cun pulses (upper) should reflect the pathology, while the Chi pulses (lower) are invisible. What is the rationale? Food in the chest is expelled via vomiting. Food represents matter. Matter corresponds to Kun Earth, which is the designation of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen. The chest houses the Lung, which is Hand-Taiyin Metal. Metal governs killing and pruning. With Kun Earth and Metal both located superiorly and flourishing in the Heaven sector, Metal controls Wood. Consequently, the ascending Qi of Liver Wood is suppressed underground; is this not Wood Stagnation? By vomiting out the Yin-Earth substances from the Upper Jiao, Liver Wood becomes free and unobstructed, resolving the stagnation.
Food blockage above and pulse absence below cannot be understood without comprehending the Dao of Heaven and Earth. Water and Fire are the manifestations of Yin and Yang, and alternate names for Heaven and Earth. Thus, "Solitary Yang does not generate, solitary Yin does not grow." When Heaven's function operates within the Earth, all things grow; when Earth's function operates within Heaven, all things are stored. This is Heaven and Earth interacting to allow the flow of all things, the way Heaven and Earth root each other. Thus, the root of Yang Fire lies in the Earth, and the source of Yin Water lies in Heaven; hence, "Water flows from high sources." The five Zang organs govern有形 (有形 - tangible/form) substances. Substances are Yin, and Yin is Water. These are governed by the Right Three Positions (Right Cun, Guan, Chi) and manifest predominantly at the Cun Kou (Radial Artery). Food blockage above cuts off the source of the Five Zang organs. When the source is cut, Water cannot flow downward, leading to exhaustion of the two Chi pulses. This is the principle; why doubt it?
