Liuyi San (Hejian) treats all kinds of heatstroke diseases.
Hua Shi (Talcum, six liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, one liang).
Grind into powder. Take three qian each time, with well water or Decoction of Juncus Effusus (Jiangcao Tang).
Baihu Tang (Zhongjing) treats symptoms of severe thirst and profuse sweating caused by heatstroke.
See Formula in "Shanghan Lun". Add Ren Shen because heat damages Yuan Qi. Add Cang Zhu to treat body heat with cold feet, as heat must be accompanied by dampness.
Xiangru Yin treats heatstroke with fever, body pain, dry mouth, dry tongue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Gan Cao (one qian), Hou Po (one qian five fen), Bian Dou (two qian), Xiang Ru (four qian).
Boil two cups of water until reduced to eight parts. Take cold or warm. For diarrhea, add Fu Ling and Bai Zhu; for vomiting, add Ban Xia; for convulsions caused by heat, add Qiang Huo and Qin Jiao.
Dashun San treats yin-heatstroke, i.e., illness caused by fearing heat and seeking coolness.
Gan Jiang (one qian, stir-fried), Gan Cao (eight fen, stir-fried), Xing Ren (six fen, stir-fried, skin and tip removed), Rou Gui (six fen).
Grind into fine powder. Take three qian each time, boil one cup of water until reduced to seven parts and take. If irritability occurs, mix one qian with well water and take.
Shengmai San is an excellent formula for dispelling heat.
Ren Shen (one qian), Mai Dong (three qian), Wu Wei Zi (one qian).
Boil one cup of water until reduced to seven parts and take.
Qingshu Yiqi Tang (Dongyuan)
Zhi Huang Qi (one qian five fen), Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Cang Zhu, Qing Pi, Chen Pi, Mai Dong, Zhu Ling, Huang Bo (each five fen), Ge Gen, Ze Xie (each two qian), Shen Qu (eight fen), Zhi Gan Cao, Wu Wei Zi (each three fen), Sheng Ma (three fen), Dang Gui Shen (three fen).
Add three slices of Sheng Jiang and two dates. Boil two cups of water until reduced to seven parts and take.
Yiwu Gadi Tang ("Jinkui Yaolue")
Gadi (twenty pieces).
Boil two cups of water until reduced to eight parts and take.
Weiling San
See Formula in "Zhangman" chapter. See annotations in "Yixue Sansijing" for modifications.
Sishen Wan treats spleen-kidney deficiency-cold and dawn diarrhea.
Buguzhi (four liang, wine-stir-fried), Roudoukou (baked in flour, oil removed), Wuzhuyu (soaked), Wuweizi (stir-fried, each two liang).
Boil five liang of Hong Zao and five liang of Sheng Jiang together. Remove the ginger, peel and pit the dates, pound them into a paste, and make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take three qian at dawn and three qian before bed, with rice soup. Adding Bai Zhu, Fu Zi, Ying Su Ke, and Ren Shen yields better results.
Shengjiang Xiexin Tang
Huanglian Tang
Gancao Xiexin Tang
Banxia Xiexin Tang
Ganjiang Huangqin Huanglian Renshen Tang
Houpo Shengjiang Banxia Gancao Renshen Tang
The above six formulas are all found in "Shanghan Lun Du".
Note: The above methods correspond to the section in "Neijing" stating that for heat-induced wasting-thirst, cold should be used, and for cold-damage types, heat should be used. Selecting treatments based on pulse and syndrome is very effective. Zhang Shiwan recorded this in detail in "Yitong", but ancient methods have long been neglected!
I have newly realized a formula with the intent of Xiexin Tang. It can eliminate epigastric fullness upwards and stop diarrhea downwards. For intestinal heat and stomach cold, it directs medicinal properties to their respective strengths. This is not another formula, but simply Wu Mei Wan from the Jueyin chapter of "Shanghan Lun", which has proven effective repeatedly.
