Add five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and two dates (Dazao). Add two cups of water, decoct until one-eighth remains, then take orally. Methods for Treating Ge Shi (Food Obstruction):
*Renjing Jing* states: *Huangdi Neijing* says, "The binding of the Three Yang meridians is called Ge." This is because the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian fails to conduct water pathways; the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian has dried-up body fluids; and the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian has accumulated dry feces. Consequently, food and drink are rejected and cannot enter; even if they enter the Tai Cang (Stomach), they return out through the throat. The normal regulation is for the intestines and stomach to excrete once a day. Now, if there is no bowel movement for five to seven days, old matter is not expelled, and new matter cannot be accepted. It is appropriate to use Sanyi Chengqi Tang (Three-One Purging Decoction) to purge step-by-step, followed by drinking Zhima Yin (Sesame Drink). Once the rotten and stale matter is removed and the intestines and stomach are cleansed, and once the masses are cleared and Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) flourish, dietary intake will naturally advance.
Sanyi Chengqi Tang (Three-One Purging Decoction)
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Nongpo (Meli Cortex), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) (each 1 qian).
Decoction method: Add two cups of water, decoct until one-eighth remains, then take orally. Note: This formula is too harsh/drastic; it is preserved here merely for reference.
