(Zhu Danxi's General Principle) states: In cases of Extreme Exhaustion (Lao Ji), the pathogenic factor of the five zang organs inevitably converges on one meridian. For instance, if there is soreness and pain in the calves, stiffness and tension in the waist and back, seminal emission and turbid leukorrhea, dark complexion, brittle and withered earlobes, and a deep, fine, and rapid pulse, the pathogen is known to be in the Kidney. It is appropriate to decoct Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with added Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), etc., and administer with Tongbian (Urine of healthy child), Jiuji Zhi (Juice of Chinese Leek), and Zhuli (Bamboo Sap). If there is mental fright, palpitations without fixed timing, night sweats and spontaneous sweating, vexation and heat oppression, sores in the mouth and tongue, hemoptysis, flushed face, and a surging and rapid pulse, the pathogen is known to be in the Heart. It is appropriate to take the aforementioned formula, remove Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), and add Fushen (Poria with Pine Root), Huhuanglian (Picrorhizae Rhizoma), Lianxin (Nelumbinis Plumula), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Zhusha (Cinnabar), etc. If there is coughing and panting, epistaxis and hemoptysis, dry and rough skin, nasal congestion and hoarse voice, frequent expectoration of frothy sputum, and a faint, deficient, choppy, and rapid pulse, the pathogen is known to be in the Lung. It is appropriate to decoct Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with added Shashen (Glehniae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis), Digupi (Lygodii Radix), Kuandonghua (Farfarae Flos), Ziwan (Asteris Flos), Madouling (Aristolochiae Radix), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), Baibu (Stemonae Radix), etc., and administer with Tongbian (Urine of healthy child), Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), and Jiangjiu Zhi (Ginger and Leek Juice). If there is hypochondriac pain and red eyes, blue-green face with flushed cheeks, irritability, failure of deficient yang to consolidate, dreams of sexual intercourse with ghosts, and in severe cases, retraction of the testes and tendon spasms, with a wiry and rapid pulse, the pathogen is known to be in the Liver. It is appropriate to decoct Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with added Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Caolongdan (Gentianae Scabrae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Zhuye (Phyllostachys Folium), etc. If there is sallow complexion, cracked and dry lips, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, borborygmus, diarrhea, limb fatigue, and a deficient, soggy, and rapid pulse, the pathogen is known to be in the Spleen. It is appropriate to decoct Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with added Jiuchao Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba stir-fried with wine), Lianrou (Nelumbinis Semen), Yiyi (Coicis Semen), Gan Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Baibian Dou (Phaseoli Semen), etc.
In all cases of Bone Steaming Labor Heat (Gu Zheng Lao Re) where the primordial qi has not yet collapsed, moxibustion at Cui Shi's Four Flowers and Six Acupoints will invariably bring stability.
Method for Moxibustion at Cui Shi's Four Flowers Acupoints:
First, determine two acupoints. Have the patient stand upright. Take a thin string (coated with wax to prevent stretching or shrinking). Place it firmly against the sole of the foot (left for males, right for females). Align the front end of the string with the tip of the big toe. Extend the rear end of the string backward along the center of the heel, straight up along the calf紧贴 the flesh, until the middle transverse crease of the popliteal fossa (the transverse crease is the Weizhong point BL-40). Cut the string at this point. Then, have the patient untie their hair and part it to both sides to reveal the midline of the head. From the anterior fontanelle (Xinmen GV-20 area), divide equally to the back of the head. The patient then sits upright. Take one end of the previously cut string, align it with the tip of the nose, extend it upward along the head midline to the back of the head, let it hang down紧贴 the flesh, and follow the spine downward. Mark the point on the spine where the string ends with ink (the ink mark is not the moxa site). Take another string. Have the patient close their mouth. Place the string horizontally across the mouth, extending to the corners of the lips. Lift the center of the string to the root of the nasal bridge forming a triangle shape. Cut the string at the length corresponding to the two corners of the lips. Straighten this string. Measure horizontally from the ink mark on the spine determined earlier, ensuring the measurement is level (do not measure higher or lower). (Note: The string measuring the mouth was first folded in half, marked in the middle with ink, then unfolded for horizontal measurement. Use the middle ink mark to align with the initial ink mark on the spine; the two ends of the string indicate the acupoints). Mark the two ends with white circles. These are the first two points.
Next, determine two more points. Have the patient sit upright, slightly retracting the arms. Take a string around the neck, letting it hang down in front in two strands. The ends should align with the Jiwei point CV-15 (the end between the xiphoid processes). Cut the two strands evenly. Flip the two string ends backward. Place the center of the string against the Adam's apple (laryngeal prominence). Let the two ends hang down vertically, following the spine. Mark the points on the spine with ink (the ink mark is not the moxa site). Take another string. Have the patient close their mouth. Measure horizontally across the mouth, cutting at the corners of the lips. Use this string to measure horizontally from the ink mark on the spine as before. Mark the two ends of the string with white circles (the white circles indicate the moxa sites).
These are the second two points. Together with the previous ones, there are four points. Perform moxibustion on all four simultaneously, 37 moxa cones per point. Accumulate up to over 100 cones. Wait until the moxa blisters are about to heal, then proceed to mark the next two points according to the following method.
Finally, determine the last two points. Use the string that measured the mouth corners in the second step. Place it vertically on the spine, centered on the ink mark made in the second step. Align the center of the string with the ink mark. Mark the two ends of the string with white circles (the white circles indicate the moxa sites).
These are the third two points. Together with the previous ones, there are six points in total. Choose days associated with Fire (Li Ri and Huo Ri) for moxibustion. For all conditions of deficiency labor, fever, and emaciation, moxibustion will lead to immediate recovery. This is truly a miraculous method for saving lives.
