宋洞虚云∶大风有五,黑色不治,余皆可治。虫食肝,眉落;食肺,鼻崩;食脾,声哑;食心,足底穿,膝虚肿;

Treatise
The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: When wind pathogen invades the human body, it may cause alternating chills and fever, heat in the middle jiao, cold in the middle jiao, or Lai Feng (Leprosy). It further states: Lai is caused by the heat and corruption of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) qi, leading to turbid qi. This results in the collapse of the nasal bridge, deterioration of facial complexion, and ulceration of the skin. When Wind-Cold lodges in the meridians and does not disperse, it is named Li Feng (Leprosy). Zhu Danxi stated: This is due to receiving the killing wind from heaven and earth. However, observing recent cases, tracing their origins reveals they are all caused by hot blood encountering cold. For instance, bathing in cold springs after strenuous labor in summer, or treading on ice and frost and fishing in water after drinking alcohol in winter. Consequently, damp-heat stagnates internally without dispersing, while Wind-Cold remains external without moving. After prolonged internal and external stagnation, muscle tissue gradually undergoes decay and putrefaction, as described in the classics: "When heat prevails, flesh rots." Generally, this disease belongs to the Lung, with emphasis on the Hand and Foot Yangming meridians. The Hand and Foot Yangming meridians are governed by the Stomach and Large Intestine, which are the Fu organs corresponding to the Spleen and Lung. The Spleen governs muscles, and the Lung governs skin and hair; thus, this is a disease where Fu pathology affects Zang organs. The classics also state: The intestines and stomach are like a market, accepting and containing everything. Therefore, heat toxins accumulate internally and manifest externally. Thus, treatment must first target the Yangming meridians before addressing the Taiyin meridians, embodying the principle of treating the root while managing the branch. Furthermore, severe damp-heat inevitably generates wind; severe wind generates parasites, similar to rotting grass transforming into fireflies. Treatment methods must first eliminate parasites and purge fire, then nourish and cool the blood, dispel wind, guide out stagnation, descend turbidity, and ascend yin. These are urgent priorities in treatment. Although there are many therapeutic approaches, they generally do not exceed these principles. Students should study them carefully.
Pulse Diagnosis
If the pulses at both Cun positions are floating and tight, or floating and surging, with Yang pulses being floating and wiry and Yin pulses being solid and large, prognosis varies. Floating and moderate pulses indicate ease of treatment; surging, large, and rapid pulses indicate difficulty in cure; sinking and solid pulses also indicate difficulty in cure. Overflowing pulses suggest the disease is located superiorly; floating pulses suggest the disease is located inferiorly. Both are considered untreatable conditions.
Methods
Zhu Danxi stated: Da Feng (Great Wind/Leprosy) is contracted from the killing wind of heaven and earth. Ancients called it Li Feng because its cruelty and ferocity are terrifying. Humans contract this pathogen either superiorly or inferiorly. Qi contraction manifests superiorly; Blood contraction manifests inferiorly; simultaneous Qi and Blood contraction manifests in both upper and lower parts. However, it never goes beyond the Yangming meridian, which refers to the Stomach and Large Intestine, accepting everything. In treatment, one must carefully observe nodules and ulcers. If lesions appear first and predominantly on the upper body, the disease is superior; if on the lower body, it is inferior. For superior diseases, use Zuixian San (Immortal Drunk Powder) to induce expectoration of phlegm and discharge of stasis through the gum margins. For inferior diseases, use Tongtian Zaizao San (Heaven-Penetrating Rebirth Decoction) to discharge foul matter, parasites, and accumulations via the bowels. Subsequently, regulate with Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Unobstructed Vitality), and additionally apply three-edged needle bleeding at Weizhong (BL40). Cases involving both upper and lower parts with severe symptoms rarely survive unless treated by a divine physician and endured by an iron-willed patient. Gradual onset from above or below indicates treatability. People often neglect such slow-progressing diseases. Even with correct treatment and full recovery, failure to abstain from rich flavors and sexual desire leads to recurrence and eventual death. I treated five patients; only one woman survived because her extreme poverty limited her food intake (indirectly enforcing dietary restrictions). The others relapsed after three to four years. Sun Simiao stated: Having treated hundreds, none survived. Not because Sun could not cure, but because no one could keep the taboos. That woman, besides treating the main disease, took over a hundred doses of Jiajian Siwu Tang (Modified Four Substance Decoction). After more than half a year, her menstruation resumed, and she recovered completely.
Zuixian San dosage must be adjusted according to the patient's constitution (size, deficiency, or excess). For severe and acute cases, first administer Zaizao San to purge, then wait for restoration before giving this medicine. Strict avoidance of salt, soy sauce, vinegar, fish, pepper, nuts, fried, roasted, and grilled foods is required. Only plain congee and lightly boiled vegetables are allowed; even eggplant is forbidden. Only Ushao She (Zaocys) and Caohua She (Dinodon) steamed in plain wine can assist the medicinal power.
*Waike Jingyao* (Essentials of External Medicine) establishes laws for various sores but omits Leprosy. Perhaps because Wind is the chief of all diseases, causing severe damage to skin and limbs, bringing death near, making it harder to treat than ordinary sores, hence omitted. Winds from eight directions arise from eight directions; following seasons promotes growth, violating them causes destruction. Those with innate "killing" constitution are susceptible. Combined with improper lifestyle, diet, and sexual activity, stagnant qi forms. Accumulated in the body, the Spleen suffers first, leading to Dampness. Prolonged warmth generates Fire. Fire spreads, causing turbid qi and polluted blood (or blood heat coagulation with unclear qi), generating parasites that transmit sequentially through zang-fu organs. Though deemed fatal, survival is possible. Early stage involves slight Stomach qi injury. Since Spleen governs muscles, progression is slow and gradual, allowing medical intervention. Declared fatal not just due to medical ignorance, but primarily because patients cannot abstain from desires—truly pitiable!
Recent crude physicians add Dafengzi Oil (Semecarpus Anacardium Oil), unaware that its hot nature dries phlegm but damages blood, sometimes causing blindness before cure.
Song Dongxu stated: There are five types of Da Feng; black-colored ones are untreatable, others are treatable. Parasites eating Liver cause eyebrow loss; eating Lungs cause nasal collapse; eating Spleen cause hoarseness; eating Heart cause sole perforation and knee swelling; eating Kidneys cause tinnitus, ear ulcers, numbness, or stabbing pain; eating Body cause itching like insects crawling. Onset from head/face is Shun Feng (Smooth Wind); from feet is Ni Feng (Reverse Wind). Usually caused by Cold-Heat and turbid qi accumulation. Treatment: First purge with Leigong San (i.e., Zaizao San), nourish with thin congee, avoid exertion for half a month, then use Zuixian San. Vomiting or diarrhea during treatment is normal; do not fear. If face/throat swells preventing swallowing, or foul fluid/blood streaks emerge from gums, or speech is lost, or suffocation occurs, feed thin congee via tube for 10 days to a month until face whitens and calms. Severe cases require Huanji San (Skin-Replacing Powder).
Huanji San treats chronic Da Feng unresponsive to treatment, causing eyebrow loss and nasal collapse. Effective within a month.
Ingredients: Hei Hua She (Black Flower Snake) and Bai Hua She (White Flower Snake) from Qichun/Huangzhou, soaked in wine overnight; Dilong (Earthworm, de-soiled, 3 liang each); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis); Xixin (Asarum); Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica); Tianma (Gastrodia Elata); Manjingzi (Vijaya Fruit); Weilingxian (Clematis Root); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike); Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemum); Kushen (Sophora Flavescens); Zishen (Bupleurum? Process: Grind to fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine. More wine is better.
Zuixian San
Humazi (Sesame), Niubangzi (Arctium Fruit), Manjingzi (Vijaya Fruit), Gouqizi (Goji Berry) (all stir-fried until purple); Bai Jili (Tribulus); Kushen (Sophora); Gualougen (Trichosanthes Root); Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia) (5 qian each; *Baojian* lists first four as 1 liang each).
Process: Grind to fine powder. Mix 1 liang 5 qian of powder with 1 qian Qingfen (Calomel). Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with clear tea. Three times daily (morning, noon, evening). After 5-7 days, foul saliva will emerge from gums, whole-body pain, dizziness like drunkenness, followed by purging of pus-blood and foul stool indicates efficacy.
Tongtian Zaizao San
Yujin (Curcuma Longa Rhizome, 5 qian); Zaojiaoci (Gleditsia Spine, single-grown black large ones, tip removed); Dahuang (Rhubarb, soaked, 1 liang); Bai Chou (Belamcanda Seed, head powder, 6 qian, half raw half fried).
Process: Grind to powder. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with non-intoxicating wine before sunrise, facing east. Must purge foul matter, foul pus, or worms that day. Black worm mouths indicate chronic disease; red indicates recent. Repeat dose after several days if worms remain. Stop when no worms accumulate.
Yufeng Dan (Wind-Nourishing Pill) treats Li Ji (Leprosy), numbness of hands/feet, hair/eyebrow loss, generalized eruptions, and skin itching. Effective for sores from scratching and all scabies/wind-diseases.
Kushen (Sophora, 1 jin, take first powder, 4 liang); Tu Tao She (Local Peach Snake, 1 strip, soaked in wine 2-3 days, deboned/dried); Wushao She (Zaocys); Baihua She (Elaphe) (1 strip each, processed similarly).
Process: Grind to fine powder. Take 1 jin Zaojiao (Gleditsia), cut into 1-cun pieces, soak in non-intoxicating wine overnight. Remove wine, add 1 bowl fresh water, rub to extract thick juice, strain. Boil residue in silver/copper vessel to make paste. Mix with powder, form pills like paulownia seeds. Take 60-70 pills per dose, delivered with decoction of Fangfeng Tongsheng San, pressed with congee/rice. Three times daily. Bathe on day 3 until heavy sweating occurs; bathe again on day 5 for heavy sweat; three baths ensure stability. (Bathing method see later).
Method 1: Use branches of Peach, Willow, Mulberry, Locust, and Paper Mulberry. Decoct strongly. Soak sitting in a large vat, neck-deep, for one day until liquid resembles oil. Cured. Materia Medica records: For severe diseases with generalized sores, strong decoction of Spirodela (Water Lentil) bath for half a day is highly effective—a divine prescription. Also, equal parts Jingjie Sui, Dahuang, Zhizi, Weijin (likely typo for something else, possibly Wujitou or similar), Dihuang, Duzhong, Fangfeng, Qianghuo, Duhuo, Bai Jili. Grind to fine powder. Mix with Dafengzi Oil and refined honey, form paulownia seed pills. Take 40-50 pills with clear tea, three times daily. ...
Method 2: Soak 5 jin Kushen in 3 dou good wine for one month. Take 1 he per dose, three times daily. Continuous use stabilizes Spleen. Fine powder administration is also good, especially for Urticaria.
Prescription
From *Tujing*, Tao Hongjing used wine-soaked drink for malignant sores; long-term use lightens the body. *Rihua Zi* claims it kills parasites. *Bencao* states it clears latent heat and nourishes Liver/Gallbladder qi. I once used Cang'er Ye (Xanthium Leaf) as sovereign, this herb as minister, plus wine-boiled Ulva (Sea Lettuce/Wuli Fish?) to substitute for Snake deficiency. Grind fine, make paste pills, paulownia seed size. Take 50-60 pills, up to 70-80, with hot clear tea, three times daily. Recover in 1-2 months. Adding Ziping (Spirodela) is faster. Ziping hosts leeches; collect in cold months from mountain ponds, wash clean, steam dry.
Method 3: For finger contracture and severe joint pain progressing to amputation. Use Bi Ma Zi (Castor Bean, shelled) and Huanglian (Coptis), cut pea-sized, 1 liang each. Soak in 1 sheng water in small bottle: 3 days spring/summer, 5 days autumn/winter. Take castor bean, break open. At dawn, face east, swallow one pill of soaking liquid. Gradually increase to 4-5 pills. Mild diarrhea is acceptable. Avoid pork/fish. Eat bland. Repeatedly effective.
Method 4: First take Jiajian Tongsheng San to purge toxic filth. Then use three-edged needle to prick blackened flesh and purple veins at Weizhong to release dead blood. Do not bleed excessively to avoid damaging True Qi. Then take Shenxian Zihua Wan.

Process: Musk to Cinnabar (5 items) grind separately to ultra-fine powder, avoid fire. Other herbal materials grind separately, sieve fine. Mix with previous 5 items, pack separately.
Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia, remove radicle); Qianghuo (Notopterygium); Gancao (Licorice); Xixin (Asarum); Chuanxiong (Ligusticum); Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens); Cangzhu (Atractylodes, rice-water soaked overnight); Pipaye (Loquat Leaf, remove hairs/veins, bake dry); Baishao (White Peony); Bai Jili (Tribulus); Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle); Wujia Pi (Acanthopanax); Xiang Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica); Kushen (Sophora) (5 qian each); Humazi (Sesame); Baifuzi (Typhonium, rice-water soak/fry); Mahuang (Ephedra); Chuan Niuxi (Cyathula); Caowutou (Aconitum, rice-water soak/process); Chuanwu (Aconitum, rice-water soak/process); Shichangpu (Acorus) (2.5 qian each).
Process: Grind to fine powder, pack separately.
Total Method: Use 3 jin Dafengzi (Semecarpus Anacardium, fresh best, remove oil/yellow parts unusable, remove shell). Place in ceramic jar. Add little non-intoxicating wine. Seal tightly with paper/bamboo leaves to prevent gas escape. Steam in boiling water (jar mouth above water level). Cover pot tightly. Steam with mild/fire until black and rotten. Pound into oil-free paste/oil. Divide into three parts. Part 1: Mix with 6 qian of Formula No. 1. Part 2: Mix with 8 qian of Formula No. 2. Part 3: Mix with 1.5 liang of Formula No. 3. Blend evenly. Add glutinous rice paste, pound until sticky. Form paulownia seed pills. Dry in sun, avoid fire. Take 20 pills, gradually increase to 50-60. Doses at cockcrow, noon, and bedtime. Deliver with clear tea. Taboos: Sexual abstinence; salty/sour/alcohol/vinegar/pickles; pork/sheep/chicken/horse/donkey meat; fish/fried fruits; Five Pungents (Onion/Garlic/etc.), Ginger/Pepper/Majiao; Spicy/Hot foods; Buckwheat/Mung beans. Failure to observe taboos/abstinence renders medicine useless; recurrence inevitable. Other meats allowed one year post-cure. Pork/Sheep/Chicken strictly forbidden lifelong. This is the divine formula for Leprosy; do not neglect.
Trauma Methods: For falls/injuries, use Sumu (Sappan Wood) to invigorate blood, Huanglian (Coptis) to descend fire, Baizhu (Atractylodes) to harmonize middle. Decoct with Child's Urine (Tongbian) for best effect. Lower injuries: purge stasis, but first tonify/support. Upper injuries: drink Leek Juice or mix with congee. Never drink cold water; blood congeals with cold. Even a trace of blood entering the Heart causes death. (Danxi)

Likely error for Prunus seed) (Equal parts).
Process: Grind to fine powder. Melt 5 qian beeswax. Form pills like marbles. Take 1 pill per dose, dissolve in 0.5 sheng good wine, decoct. Stir with Southeast-facing Willow branch. Drink hot. Alternative adds Longgu (Dragon Bone) and Chuanxiong.
General Trauma Principle: Excellence lies in tonifying Qi and Blood. Crude practitioners ignore this, seeking quick effects, overusing Ziran Tong (Pyrite) for knitting bones. This herb must be refined before use. Newly fired pyrite has fire/gold toxicity interacting with aromatic/hot drugs. Though it knits bone, its drying/scattering disaster exceeds swords/knives. Beware! Beware! (Danxi)
Metal Wounds: Immediately apply thick layer of Duanshi (Smelted Iron Oxide/Powder) to wrap. If wound is deep and shouldn't close quickly, add Huashi (Talcum) powder.
Another Prescription: Old Fir Bark powder applied topically.
Abdominal pain after trauma indicates blood stasis. Use Taoren Chengqi Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction for Downward Directing) plus Sumu (Sappan Wood) and Honghua (Safflower) to purge.
Danggui Daozhi Tang (Angelica Guiding Stagnation Decoction) (Dongyuan) Treats trauma, stasis obstruction, etc.
Dahuang (Rhubarb); Danggui (Angelica): Head for upper body, Body for middle, Tail for lower, Whole for general pain. Wine-soak, wash, bake dry.
Process: Cut finely, equal parts. Take 1 liang per dose, decoct in wine.
Jiming San (Cockcrow Dispelling Stasis Decoction) (Dacheng Formula) Treats falls from height, crushing by wood/stone, all injuries, accumulated stasis, unbearable pain. Pushes out old to generate new.
Dahuang (Rhubarb, 1 liang); Xingren (Apricot Seed, 21 kernels, remove skin/point, grind separately).
Process: Grind to powder. Decoct in large bowl of wine to 70%. Strain. Take at cockcrow. By dawn, stasis will be purged and cured. (Comment: Uses Xingren instead of Taoren because trauma affects Qi level of Blood; Xingren moves Qi-level Blood.)
Moyao Ruxiang San (Myrrh Frankincense Powder) (Hejian) Treats trauma, unbearable pain.
Baizhu (Atractylodes, fried, 5 liang); Danggui (Angelica, baked); Gancao (Licorice, honey-fried); Baizhi (Angelica); Moyao (Myrrh, grind separately, 1.5 liang each); Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, remove cork); Ruxiang (Frankincense, grind separately, 1 liang each).
Process: Mix powders, grind ultra-fine. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine.
Zhangdan Gaoyao Fang (Stick-Burnishing Ointment Formula) (External Recorded Verified Formula) Treats post-beating swelling from dead blood. Prick to release foul blood first, then apply ointment. Calms in 3-4 days. Abscesses from poor care dissipate upon application. Effective for all carbuncles/furuncles/toxins, opened or unopened.
Gancao (Licorice); Rougui (Cinnamon); Shetui (Snake Slough); Chantui (Cicada Slough); Lubofang (Honeycomb); Lianqiao (Forsythia); Baizhi (Angelica); Baiji (Bletilla); Bailian (Veratrum); Baizhu (Atractylodes); Cangzhu (Atractylodes); Renshen (Ginseng); Xuanshen (Scrophularia); Kushen (Sophora); Shaoyao (Peony); Nanxing (Pinellia); Shengma (Cimicifuga); Houpo (Magnolia Bark); Zhizi (Gardenia); Baihe (Lily Bulb); Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle); Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root); Chuan Gui (Angelica Sinensis); Chuanxiong (Ligusticum); Chanshanyjia (Pangolin Scale, baked/swollen, grind separately); Qianghuo (Notopterygium); Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens); Huanglian (Coptis); Huangqin (Scutellaria); Huangbai (Phellodendron); Dahuang (Rhubarb); Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Raw); Honghua (Safflower); Sumu (Sappan Wood); Chaihu (Bupleurum); Biejia (Turtle Carapace,酥-baked, grind); Qingmuxiang (Podocarpus); Heshouwu (Polygonum); Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta); Huoxiang (Patchouli); Yunmu Shi (Mica); Huarui Shi (Flower Stalactite) (Each...
