[Li Dongyuan] The pulse is wiry with weak qi, the skin and hair are dry and withered, and hair falls out; Jianzhong Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is the primary treatment. For hair loss accompanied by pain below the umbilicus, Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) added with Shudi Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) is used.
[Zhu Danxi] A patient surnamed Hu, aged seventeen or eighteen, lost all his hair, leaving not a single strand, while his diet and daily activities remained normal. His pulse was slightly wiry and choppy, both lightly and heavily pressed. I said: This is caused by rich flavors generating internal heat, with damp-phlegm lodged in the diaphragm. Furthermore, he frequently ate plums; the sour flavor astringes the damp-heat phlegm, which then ascends with the rising qi to the head, steaming and scorching the blood at the hair roots, gradually causing them to wither, resulting in sudden total hair loss. Therefore, I prescribed blood-nourishing and ascending-dispersing herbs, using Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Windscreen Universal Rescue Powder) minus Mangxiao (Mirabilite), with only Dahuang (Rhubarb Rhizome) stir-fried three times with wine. This was combined with Sizhu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) prepared with wine, decocted in small doses, and administered frequently mixed with ash-water. After more than two months, upon re-examining the pulse, the damp-heat had gradually resolved. Medication was stopped, and nourishment was maintained with a bland diet. Two years later, his hair grew back as before, and he recovered.
[Wang Haogu] Zirong San (Nourishing and Glorifying Powder) promotes hair growth and is most suitable for hair loss.
Shengjiang (Dried Ginger Rhizome, baked dry) Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1 liang)
Grind into fine powder. Each time, take a piece of fresh ginger, cut it open, dip it in the powder, and rub it onto the bald area. Use once every two days.
[Zhang Shixian] Sansheng Gao (Three Sages Ointment) treats beard and hair loss, promoting regrowth.
Heifuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Black Prepared Aconite) Manjingzi (Vitalae Fructus) Baiziren (Biota Semen) (each 0.5 liang)
Grind into powder, mix evenly with Ji Zhi (Chicken Fat), pound and grind well. Place in a dried clay vessel lid, seal tightly, and leave for one hundred days before removing. Apply to areas of beard and hair loss; regrowth occurs within three to five days, becoming naturally firm and strong without falling out.
[Bencao] Tian Gua Ye (Melon Leaf) treats alopecia; crush and apply the juice, and hair will grow immediately.
[Qianjin Fang] Treats hair loss and promotes growth. Take one sheng of Sesame Seeds, roast until black, press to extract oil, and apply to the hair. It is excellent.
[Shengji Zonglu] Treats eyebrow regrowth. Use Wuma Hua (Black Sesame Flowers) harvested in the seventh lunar month, dry in the shade, and grind into powder. Soak in Sheng Wuma You (Raw Black Sesame Oil). Apply nightly. Wuma refers to autumn sesame.
