予又往他处,至晚又告急。予视痛大作,连及两胁,手不可近。予思之,此痛无因,若结粪未尽,痛当在下;

Administer Zhuli (Bamboo Sap). I was about to leave for another place, so I took her pulse. Hearing the patient make abnormal sounds, I realized my judgment was wrong and my skills were clumsy. I had not instructed the family to alternate between porridge and medicine. Instead, I urgently ordered them to make thin porridge and feed it to the patient. However, she could only swallow three or four spoonfuls; her teeth were clenched shut, preventing ingestion. I then used a wooden wedge to pry open her mouth, mixed the thin porridge with the herbal decoction, and forced down a large cup of it together with Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), where the porridge constituted the majority and the medicine one-third. I then left home, instructing the family to administer the porridge and medicine alternately.
I was twenty li away. Around the time of Shen (3 PM - 5 PM), a strong wind suddenly arose. I speculated that this woman's epilepsy would definitely manifest, so I specially went to visit her. The epilepsy did not occur, but pain appeared. Her pulse was rapid and irregular. I urgently moxa her Ran Gu (KI2), Tai Chong (LR3), and Ju Que (CV14) acupoints. After moxibustion, the pain subsided. I asked if she wanted porridge. She replied, "I am hungry." Her husband gave her porridge, which she drank two cups of. I then went to another place, still instructing to use Shen Shu Gao (Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala Paste) to mix the herbal decoction with Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), administering it alternately with porridge as before.
At midnight, the family summoned me urgently. Upon inspection, the epilepsy was severe. They snatched my hand, preventing pulse diagnosis. I had someone hold her elbows steady while I grasped her middle finger to take her pulse forcibly. The pulse beat four and a half times per breath, coarse, large, and forceful, identical on both sides, though slightly slower on the right. She spoke nonsense incoherently, cursed angrily, looked upward without blinking, and vomited. She tried to get up and walk, appearing as if supported by something invisible. But holding her hands fixed, I moxa the junction of the nail and flesh on the dorsal side of both big toes, three moxa cones each. Her anger slightly decreased, and she begged to be released. I lit a candle to examine her; her eyes and ears still showed no sign of vision or hearing. She slept until midnight, when her mania and rage erupted again, and she talked about ghosts and monsters. A shaman arrived, and she cursed the shaman loudly. I thought calmly: Qi is deficient due to Blood deficiency, allowing pathogenic factors to enter easily. This reasoning might be correct. Therefore, I administered tonifying medicines. If Qi and Blood are replenished, pathogens should recede naturally. I continued using the previous prescription but worried about stubborn phlegm, so I added Jing Li (Arisaema Sap) as an adjuvant. I also applied Qin Chengzu's "Moxa Ghost Method" and prayed for her recovery. She slept for a day and night, then suddenly sat up demanding porridge. Her husband fed her. She asked her husband, "Why is your face so dirty? Strange, why is there a fragrant smell on the bed?" Then she lost consciousness again, keeping her eyes open but not sleeping. Although her limbs could move, she made groping gestures. This lasted another two days and nights. Porridge intake increased slightly, but bed-wetting remained as before. I was pleased and maintained the previous prescription. I went to another place. The next evening, I was summoned urgently. Rushing to inspect, the patient complained of whole-body pain. Her pulse was five beats per breath, uniform and harmonious on both sides. She said the Shen Shu Gao was finished. I instructed adding Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala to the previous decoction, removing Jing Li, and adding Cyperi Rhizoma powder. After one dose, she felt very comfortable. I told her to stick to this prescription. At midnight the next night, she reported urgent distress: "The previous pain has returned severely." I found her sitting on a bucket, crying out loudly. I reasoned: This is a deficiency disease with excessive sweating, leading to dry intestines and difficult defecation. The pain should be in the lower abdomen and waist. I urgently heated a large Amber Plaster and applied it to the lower abdomen. I instructed rubbing the waist-kidney area with warm hands. After gas passed, the pain decreased, and she slept briefly, then got up again. This happened five or six times. A physician advised using purgatives. I said, "Which is heavier, pain or death? Endure until midnight, and it will pass naturally." I left again. At the fourth watch (1 AM - 3 AM), I was summoned urgently. The pain was severe. I had her sit in warm water, expecting natural defecation. After changing the water, the pain stopped, and she felt relieved. In the second bucket of water, she passed two hard stools and slept. At dawn, I went elsewhere. By evening, I was summoned again. The pain was severe, radiating to both hypochondria, intolerable to touch. I reasoned: This pain has no obvious cause. If fecal impaction remains, pain should be lower; now it is upper, likely due to overeating. Inquiry confirmed this. A doctor wanted to use Ying Gan Wan (Induction Pill). I instructed against giving porridge or medicine. The patient desperately demanded medicine, so I gave her Cyperi Rhizoma powder to lick. By midnight, pain gradually subsided. At dawn, she felt slightly hungry and asked for porridge. I said, "This is not hunger, but heartburn (Cao E)." Do not give it; she will settle herself. The family gave her porridge anyway. By Chen-Si hours (7 AM - 11 AM), I went elsewhere. By evening, pain returned, and the patient kept asking for Cyperi Rhizoma powder. I prepared half a bowl with decoction, induced vomiting, and expelled retained food. Pain ceased. I went elsewhere. At midnight, pain recurred. Inquiry revealed she had eaten vinegar-dressed radish sprouts with porridge. I used Cyperi Rhizoma powder to induce vomiting again. Pain subsided. I instructed fasting for a day and night. The next day, small amounts of light porridge were given. When hungry, Baizhu Wan (Atractylodes Macrocephala Pills) were taken with Tangerine Peel Decoction. With such regulation, she recovered.
