〔无〕止衄散
黄 （六钱） 赤茯苓 白芍药（各三钱） 当归 生地 阿胶（炒。各三钱）
上为细末，煎黄 汤调下三钱，未止再服。
〔垣〕治血衄不愈。以三棱针于气冲上出血，立愈。更服此药尤妙。

地；溏软者，栀子、黄芩、黄连可选用之。

予男衄，寸口脉微小，用寒凉药不止，后用小建中汤加栀仁、黄芩、黄柏，一服立愈。
〔丹〕七叔婆，鼻塞，时有血些少出。

分二帖，入开口红椒七粒，枣二枚去核，葱白三根，水二盏，煎取浅盏，稍热饮之。

御院麝香散治鼻衄不止。
白矾（枯，过，另研） 白龙骨（粘舌者，另研。各半两） 麝香（另研，半字）
上三味，杵和匀，每用一字，先将冷水洗净鼻内血涕，然后吹药于鼻中，或以湿纸蘸药塞鼻，
尤妙。
〔《广》〕治鼻中衄血，及咯吐血不止。五色龙骨作末，吹一豆许于鼻中，立止。
〔《图》〕榴花百叶者，主心热吐血及衄血等，干之作末，吹鼻中立瘥。（以上皆涩剂。）乱发
微温，主咳嗽，五淋，大小便不通，小儿惊痫，止血。鼻衄烧之吹鼻内，立已。（发灰，破活血，
补阴。）
〔《本》〕山栀不拘多少，烧存性为末，搐入鼻中，立愈。蔡子渥传云∶同官赵无疵，其兄
衄血甚，已死，入殓，血尚未止。偶一道人过，闻其家哭，询问其由。道人云∶曾服丹或烧炼药，
予有药用之。即出此药半钱匕，吹入鼻中，良久得活。并传此方。
〔世〕治鼻衄，人中白系尿缸结者，烧灰少许，吹入鼻中。（以上寒剂。）
〔《本》〕鼻衄过多，昏冒欲死，用香墨浓研，点入鼻中。
〔丹〕鼻血，龙脑叶研塞立止，入豉尤妙。

内浸湿，置顶中，以热熨斗熨之，至一重或二重纸干，立止。
〔《简》〕治鼻血不止，服药不应，宜用蒜一枚，去皮细研如泥，摊一饼子如钱大，浓一豆许，
左鼻血出，贴左脚心，右鼻血出，贴右脚心，如两边俱出，贴两脚心，即瘥。血止即以温水洗去
之。一法，用纸丸儿，右衄塞左耳，左衄塞右耳。又冷水调白面饮之。
治衄不止，百药不效，因心忧虑得者，急缚两手中指上，立止。
针灸衄取四经∶
其一取足手太阳。经云∶衄而不止血流，取足太阳。大衄 血，取手太阳。不已取腕骨下，
不已刺 中出血。又云∶膀胱足太阳之脉，所生病者，鼽衄项背腰尻 端痛，视盛虚热寒，陷下
取之。又云∶足太阳之别，名曰飞阳，去踝七寸，别走少阴，虚则鼽衄，取之所别也。
其二取足手阳明。经云∶胃足阳明之脉，所生病者鼽衄。又云∶大肠手阳明之脉，所生病者，
目黄口干，鼽衄。皆视盛虚热寒，陷下取之。又云∶邪客于足阳明之络，令人鼽衄，上齿寒，
刺足中指、次指爪甲上与肉交者各一 ，左刺右，右刺左。
〔《摘》〕衄血∶喑门（三分） 合谷 内庭
〔《密》〕又法∶喑门 三里（泻） 照海（五分）
〔世〕又法∶三里 外关（泻） 重者风府。

口鼻出血不止∶上星灸，三报之。

重，战栗不久立， 如裂，脚跟急痛，足挛，引少腹痛，咽喉痛，大便难， 胀，承山主之。
头重鼻鼽反螈 ，汗不出，烦心，足下热，不欲近衣，项痛，目翳，及小便皆不利，至阴主之。

【无】止衄散

【梅】治疗鼻出血，头晕目眩欲死。烧乱发研细，用水送服一方寸匕。片刻后吹入鼻中即愈。
【《保命集》】鼻出血，先服用朱砂、蛤粉，再服用木香、黄连。大便干结者攻下，使用大黄、芒硝、甘草、生地黄；大便溏软者，可选用栀子、黄芩、黄连。

Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 6 qian) Chi Fuling (Red Poria with Hostwood, 3 qian each) Bai Shaoyao (White Peony Root, 3 qian each) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 3 qian each) Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, fried, 3 qian each)
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Decoct Huang Qin in water to make a decoction, take 3 qian with this decoction. If bleeding does not stop, take another dose.
[Li Dongyuan] Treats persistent epistaxis. Use a three-edged needle to prick the Qichong (ST30) acupoint to let blood out; it will heal immediately. Taking this medicine afterwards is even more effective.
Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 10 grains) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, dehearted, 5 fen) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 5 fen) Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 qian) Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 3 fen) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 5 fen)
Cut the above herbs into small pieces, as one dose. Add two zhan of water, decoct until one zhan remains. Take hot on an empty stomach.
[Zhu Danxi] For continuous nosebleed where various prescriptions are ineffective: stir-fry glutinous rice until slightly yellow, grind into powder, and take 2 qian with fresh well water. This prescription is very wonderful.
[Mei] Treats nosebleed accompanied by dizziness and fainting. Burn human hair, grind finely, and take with water using a measure of fangcun bi (square-inch scoop). Shortly after, blow the powder into the nostrils for cure.
[Baoming Ji] For epistaxis, first take Zhusha (Cinnabaris) and Gafen (Concha Arcae), then take Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma). If stool is constipated, purge using Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens); if stool is loose, choose Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), or Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
[Zhu Danxi] For epistaxis, focus mainly on cooling blood and promoting blood circulation. Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction), used together with Yujin (Curcumae Radix). (Danxi said: Xijiao has a dispersing nature; using it for blood deficiency patients brings disaster.)
[Yu Shi] Treats hemoptysis and epistaxis. Bai Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 liang), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 1 fen), grind into powder, take 1 qian bi with fresh water. Stop when epistaxis ceases.
[Zhuzhai Yishu] Huafen San (Painting Powder Powder) treats continuous epistaxis; one or two doses can eradicate the root. Baotu (White Clay), i.e., the painting powder used by painters, grind extremely fine. Take 5 qian per dose, mix with fresh well water to stop immediately.
[Shi] Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Hominis Odontolitus) ground into powder, taken with warm water, treats epistaxis with repeated efficacy.
[Luo] Shengdihuang Tang (Fresh Rehmannia Decoction) treats epistaxis with coma and loss of consciousness.
Sheng Dihuang (Fresh Rehmannia Radix, 3-5 jin; if time does not permit extracting juice, have the patient eat it raw. Drink about 3 jin of juice. Also use the residue to plug the nose; blood stops shortly. Extracting juice is better.)
[Baoming Ji] For continuous epistaxis, Maimendong Yinzi (Ophiopogon Drink).
Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, dehearted) Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens)
Cut the above, decoct in water and take.
[Sun] Generally, for treating epistaxis and excessive heat above the diaphragm, use equal parts of Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum), and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), taken with cold water.
[Zhu Danxi] Epistaxis, rapid pulse with heat.

[Xuan] For initial heavy epistaxis that cannot be stopped, blow Huangdan (Minii Oxidum Rubrum) into the nose. This is because Lung Metal is controlled by Ministerial Fire. Use Shengliao Jisu San (Raw Herb Jisu Powder) to treat it.
Jisu Ye (Perillae Folium) Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, remove rhizome) Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma) (each 1 liang) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, dehearted) Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) Puhuang (Typhae Pollen, fried) Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, dehearted) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted, 5 qian each)
Cut the above, take 4 qian per dose with 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take.
[Yanyi] Treats severe heat epistaxis: wash Xuancacao Gen (Verbenae Caulis et Folium root? Note: Text says Xuancacao Gen, likely Daylily root), grind to extract one large zhan of juice, mix with half a zhan of Shengjiang Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice), sip slowly from time to time. [Zhu Danxi] For nosebleed, grind Guanzhong Gen (Cyathulae Radix? Note: Text says Guanzhong Gen, likely Cibotii Rhizoma or similar antihemorrhagic herb, standard is Guanzhong Rhizoma) into fine powder, mix with water, take 1 qian bi, stops immediately.
[Luo] Cunjin San (Inch Gold Powder) treats continuous epistaxis.
Huangyaozi (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 5 qian) Tumazong (Polyporus Umbellatus? Note: Text describes moss/wall lichen type, likely referring to a specific local herb or moss, literal translation "Earth Horse Mane"), Ban liang (with legs present, 0.5 liang) Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice, roasted, 1 qian)
Grind into fine powder, take 2 qian per dose with fresh water. If not stopped, take again; heals immediately. (Bencao says: Tumazong is like moss and wall lichen. Yuan yi grows on the side of walls, Tumazong grows on top of walls, often found on old shaded walls.)
[Jiyifang] Treats continuous epistaxis. Huangyaozi ground into powder, take 2 qian bi per dose, swallow with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). After a while, mix 2 spoons of flour powder with fresh well water and drink at once.
[Shan] Epistaxis. Feimian (Sifted Flour) 2 qian, Yan (Salt) 1 qian, mix with fresh well water and take.
[Shi] For epistaxis, use Zhu Zhu Mo (Powder from bamboo eaten by worms), mix with Mi Yin (Rice Drink) and take. Effective.
If Gallbladder heat transfers to the brain, it causes Biyuan (Nasal Sinusitis) with nasal congestion, which transmits to become epistaxis. (Full text see Disease Transmission).
[He] Ming San (Life-Determining Powder) treats Gallbladder receiving heat, wild running of hot blood, causing epistaxis and continuous bloody sweat.
Zhusha (Cinnabaris) Hanshuishi (Aragoniti Fibrosum) Shexiang (Moschus)
Grind into powder, take 0.5 qian per dose with fresh well water, regardless of time. Adjust dosage based on age and deficiency/excess.
[Maijue] Cun Kou pulse is weak, suffering from cold leading to epistaxis. Should take Wuweizi Tang (Schisandra Decoction), rub Zhuyu Gao (Cornus Paste) to induce sweating. (Prescription not verified.)
My son had epistaxis, Cun Kou pulse was minute and weak. Using cold-cooling medicines did not stop it. Later, using Xiaojianzhong Tang (Minor Construct the Middle Decoction) added with Zhiren (Gardeniae Semen) and Huangqin/Huangbai, one dose stopped it immediately.
[Zhu Danxi] Seventh Uncle's wife, nasal congestion, occasionally slight bleeding.
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix) Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian) Gancao (Licorice, roasted) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix)
Divide into two doses. Add 7 open red peppercorns, 2 dates pitted, 3 stalks of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Add two zhan of water, decoct to obtain a shallow cup. Drink slightly warm.

[Zhang Zhongjing] Epistaxis from Spring to Summer belongs to Taiyang (Greater Yang); from Autumn to Winter belongs to Yangming (Yang Brightness).
[Zhu Danxi] For continuous epistaxis, one dose of Yangwei Tang (Stomach-Nourishing Decoction) decocted and taken is effective.
Another prescription: Treats wild running epistaxis. Use Baiyaojian (Medicated Leaven), half roasted half raw, mix with water and wine to take.
[Ben] Qianmei Wan (Qianmei Pill) treats unpredictable epistaxis.
Qiancaogen (Rubiae Radix et Rhizoma) Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) (each 1 liang) Wumei Rou (Mume Fructus flesh, baked dry, 0.5 liang)
Grind into fine powder, refine honey to make pills like wattle seeds. Take 30 pills with Wumei Tang (Mume Decoction).
Yunqi (Climate Influence) Epistaxis has three types:
First, Heat assists Heart Fire, causing blood overflow into epistaxis. The Classic says: Shaoyin arrival results in epistaxis. Also: When Shaoyin governs the sky, hot qi descends, Lung qi ascends following it, causing nasal congestion and epistaxis.
Also: When Shaoyin governs the sky, excessive heat prevails, people suffer nasal congestion and epistaxis. Also: When Shaoyang governs the sky, during the third climate phase, scorching heat arrives, disease manifests as blood overflow, nasal congestion, and epistaxis. Also: When Shaoyang governs the sky, Fire qi descends, Lung qi ascends following it, causing nasal congestion and epistaxis. Also: When Shaoyang governs the sky, excessive fire prevails, severe disease leads to nasal congestion and epistaxis. Also: When Shaoyang returns, great heat approaches, coughing and epistaxis are inevitable.
Second, Cold attacks Heart Fire, causing blood to flee resulting in epistaxis. The Classic says: When Taiyin governs the sky, excessive cold prevails, vomiting blood and bloody diarrhea occur, along with nasal congestion, epistaxis, sadness, and occasional dizziness/fainting.
Third, Cold and Heat force each other leading to epistaxis. The Classic says: In Yangming governance, during the first climate phase, Yin begins to congeal, Qi becomes solemn, people suffer middle heat, nasal congestion, and epistaxis. This is external cold suppressing internal heat leading to epistaxis. Also: In Shaoyin governance, during the fourth climate phase, cold and heat alternate, people suffer nasal congestion. This is lower cold forcing upper heat leading to epistaxis.
[Shi] For epistaxis, Baiji Mo (Bletillae Rhizoma Powder) mixed with fresh well water is miraculous.
Yuyuan Shexiang San (Imperial Hospital Musk Powder) treats continuous epistaxis.
Baifan (Alumen Exsiccatum, calcined, ground separately) Bailonggu (Os Draconis, sticky to tongue, ground separately) (each 0.5 liang) Shexiang (Moschus, ground separately, 0.5 zi)
Mix these three ingredients evenly. Use 1 zi per application. First wash blood and mucus from the nose with cold water, then blow the medicine into the nose. Alternatively, dip wet paper in the medicine and plug the nose; this is especially wonderful.
[Guang] Treats epistaxis and continuous hematemesis/hemoptysis. Make Wuse Longgu (Five-Colored Dragon Bone) into powder, blow a bean-sized amount into the nose, stops immediately.
[Tu] Liuhua Baiye (Pomegranate Flower with Hundred Leaves) treats Heart Heat hematemesis and epistaxis. Dry and grind into powder, blow into nose for immediate cure. (Above are all astringent agents.) Luanfa (Human Hair) slightly warm treats cough, five stranguries, difficulty in urination/defecation, pediatric convulsions, and stops bleeding. Burning Luanfa for epistaxis and blowing into nose stops it immediately. (Hair ash breaks blood stasis, nourishes Yin.)
[Ben] Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) any amount, burn to retain nature, grind into powder, insufflate into nose, cures immediately. Cai Ziwo passed down: Zhao Wuci of Tongguan, his brother suffered severe epistaxis, died, was being buried, but bleeding hadn't stopped. A Daoist passerby heard crying, asked why. Daoist said: Had taken alchemical pills or refined medicines, I have medicine for this. Took out half a qian bi of this medicine, blew into nose, revived after a while. Passed down this prescription.
[Shi] Treat epistaxis: Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Hominis Odontolitus) formed in urine pots, burn to ash, blow small amount into nose. (Above are cold agents.)
[Ben] For excessive epistaxis causing coma and fainting, grind Xiangmo (Inkstick) thickly, apply drops into nose.
[Zhu Danxi] For nosebleed, Longnao Ye (Borneol Leaf? Note: Likely refers to a plant containing borneol or similar aromatic herb, literally "Longnao Leaf") ground and stuffed stops immediately. Adding Chi (Fermented Soybean) is especially good.
[Shengjin] Treat epistaxis: Crush one handful of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) to extract juice, add a little wine, scoop 3-4 drops into nose, cures.
[None] Baiji San (Bletilla Powder) treats epistaxis with immediate effect. Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma) any amount, grind into powder, mix with cold water, paste paper flower on Biqiao (Mountain Root/Nasion). Another method: Use Huangjiao Tang (Yellow Gelatin Decoction), soak until soft, paste on Biqiao. (Biqiao is the nasion.)
[Li Dongyuan] Treats long-term unceasing epistaxis, or sudden onset due to pre-existing heat, where all medicines fail. Divine method: Take one large white paper, fold ten times. Soak in cold water, place on Biqiao, iron with hot iron. Until one or two layers of paper dry, stops immediately.
[Jiyifang] Treats continuous epistaxis unresponsive to medicine: Take one garlic clove, peel, grind to mud, spread into a cake size of a coin, thickness of a bean. If left nose bleeds, paste on left sole; if right, paste on right sole; if both, paste on both soles, cures. Wash off with warm water after bleeding stops. Another method: Roll paper into balls, block left ear for right epistaxis, right ear for left epistaxis. Also drink white flour mixed with cold water.
For unceasing epistaxis unresponsive to hundreds of medicines, caused by mental worry: Quickly tie the middle fingers of both hands, stops immediately.
Acupuncture for Epistaxis selects four meridians:
First, select Foot and Hand Taiyang. Classic says: For epistaxis with continuous blood flow, select Foot Taiyang. For massive epistaxis, select Hand Taiyang. If not stopped, select below Wanggu (SI4); if still not, prick Xiangu (SI2) to bleed. Also: Bladder Foot Taiyang meridian diseases include nasal congestion, epistaxis, neck/back/waist/buttock pain, treat according to excess/deficiency/heat/cold/sunken points. Also: Foot Taiyang branch named Feiyang (BL58), seven cun above ankle, branches to Shaoyin, deficiency causes nasal congestion/epistaxis, treat at its branching point.
Second, select Foot and Hand Yangming. Classic says: Stomach Foot Yangming meridian diseases include nasal congestion/epistaxis. Large Intestine Hand Yangming meridian diseases include yellow eyes, dry mouth, nasal congestion/epistaxis. Treat according to excess/deficiency/heat/cold/sunken points. Also: Evil invading Foot Yangming collateral causes nasal congestion/epistaxis, cold in upper teeth, prick middle toe and second toe nail junction, one prick each, left prick right, right prick left.
[Zhai] Epistaxis: Anmen (3 fen) Hegu (LI4) Neiting (ST44)
[Mi] Another method: Anmen Sanli (ST36, reducing) Zhaohai (KI6, 5 fen)
[Shi] Another method: Sanli (ST36) Waiguan (TE5, reducing). Severe cases: Fengfu (GV16).
[Ji] Another method: Fengfu (GV16) Shangxing (GV23) Bailao (EX-B1) Hegu (LI4). If not stopped, select posterior points: Yingxiang (LI20) Renzhong (GV26) Yintang (EX-HN3).
Unceasing oral/nasal bleeding: Moxibustion Shangxing (GV23), three applications.
[Jiaying) Cold in head causes epistaxis and tearing, Shenting (GV24) governs. Unceasing epistaxis, Chengjiang (CV24) and Weizhong (BL40) govern. Nasal congestion/epistaxis, waist/spine/leg soreness/heaviness, chills unable to stand long, cracking sensation, heel acute pain, foot spasm, drawing lower abdomen pain, throat pain, difficult defecation, abdominal distension, Chengshan (BL57) governs.
Heavy head, nasal congestion, convulsion, no sweat, vexation, heat under feet, dislike clothing, neck pain, cloudy vision, difficulty urinating, Zhiyin (BL67) governs.
