一、内科
1、肺痈。
某男，60岁
咳嗽月余，痰臭色绿，面呈痿白，目暗无光，时有恶寒现象，脉见浮大中空。断为 肺痈，然未成脓。仿徐灵胎治肺痈五法，以甘凉泻火为首。
服两剂，情况无改变，更用滋润养血法。
火麻仁二钱、冬瓜子四钱、薏苡仁五钱、生地三钱、阿胶珠三钱、当归三钱、赤芍 二钱、连翘三钱
服两剂后，痰已显著减少，但云身体不适。改方：
佩兰叶二钱、白薇二钱、香薷二钱、橘络四钱、败酱草四钱、薏苡仁四钱、茅根三 钱、鲜贝四钱
白芨四钱、黄芪四钱、阿胶四钱、薏苡仁四钱、金银花四钱、龙骨三钱、牡蛎二钱 、冬瓜子四钱
另加新榨出之无盐芥菜水一盅对服。服两剂，痰臭全解，仅早晚咳嗽。改用：
薏苡仁一两、冬瓜子一两，包于鲜嫩荷叶内，置清水中熬煎一小时，再入榨取之芥 菜汁对服，自此告全愈。（芥菜汁，即做盐菜挤出之水汁，装入罐内封好，埋于门 槛根下，七日后——无辛味取出，每日用一大盅，先放饭上蒸热，以热米汤对服） 。
某男，50余岁
咳吐脓痰，臭气难受，脉见滑数，体瘦形焦。古云“咳脓者不治”，余固辞之。然 患者再三请求，姑以生黄豆令嚼之，验其吐否，乃拟方：
银花五钱，败酱草五钱，象贝三钱、连翘二钱、桔梗二钱、苡米二钱、大黄二钱、 黄芩二钱、土茯苓二钱
服八剂，咳嗽、脓痰及臭气均见减少，改方：
白芨三钱、阿胶三钱、苡米四钱、丹皮二钱，北芪三钱，海浮石二钱，冬瓜子三钱
再服八剂，全愈。善后法：
某男，40岁
咳嗽畏寒，痰多且臭，夜卧不宁，低头即觉臭气上冲咽门，脉尺寸浮紧，关部见沉 ，舌色红滑，形容枯槁。肺虽成痈，尚未化脓。急宜开窍清金，拟方：
麻黄钱半，桑白皮二钱，前胡钱半，象贝二钱，茵陈二钱，光杏仁二钱，橘络二钱 ，百部二钱
服两剂，夜咳稀，不觉恶寒，脉浮不紧，惟痰臭如前。采用去毒解热，养阴清金法 。
眼花四钱，苡米三钱、象贝三钱，海浮石三钱，百部/二钱，茵陈三钱，白果二钱 败酱草二钱，鲜茅根二钱
服两剂，脉无浮象，关部搏指，面色回润，痰臭亦减。于原方去百部、海浮石，加 ：
冬瓜子三钱、白芨二钱、阿胶珠三钱、北芪三钱，鲜荷叶一片，同煎。
再服两剂，其妻以为病已全愈，仅属体弱，乃杀鸡供食，食后痰臭复作，气逼难受 ，睡不安宁。余以为不独伤食，且有房劳仍守前方兼泻肺解毒法治之，获愈。
2、喘咳
某女，55岁
素患咳嗽，气逆痰多，脉沉无力，独寸口滑数，舌无苔，涎沫满布，形色（白光） 白，痰声漉漉，气上冲胸，俯仰不得，临夜大汗，漫及头颈。良由肺寒而引肾气， 致成痰喘肺痿，非哮症也。法当
明附三钱，益智仁二钱、桑皮（炙）二钱，紫苑二钱，巴戟天二钱，半夏钱半，百 部二钱，煨姜一钱。
外加黑锡丹一小瓶，随药吞服。
益智仁二钱，桑皮（炙）二钱、紫苑二钱、巴戟二钱，煨姜一钱，明附四钱，肉桂 一钱二分，蛤蚧（酒浸置泥■炕■）二钱，仍加黑锡丹一小瓶，随汤吞下。
服四剂，无畏寒现象，但仍咳喘自汗，乃令购蛤蚧（制法同前），每日早晨以米汤 送服蛤蚧末（一对分两日服）。服后喘汗均愈，仍咳嗽。余断其肺、肾两不司职， 迨后恐变足肿身肿。
某男，22岁
喘嗽八年，时或痰中带血，脉象浮滑，不能劳动。此由肺窍闭塞，致肺气不宣。令 取鲜藕一段，留两头节，于一端之近节处切下寸许，以备作盖，然后从孔内灌入白 蜜，盖好，以纸密封刀切口，再用白布扎好，置瓦钵内煮一炷香，待患者乘热吃下 。共吃十余次，喘咳均减轻，再用猪油四两，煎去渣，以糯米糖半斤，投入油内烊 化后，加白蜜四两，不断搅之，至牵丝为度，每日化服一匙，自是诸恙皆失。今可 挑百余斤。
某男，60多岁
夜咳频仍，不得平卧，每至鸡鸣则大汗淋漓，热气上腾，令人烦闷。其鳏十余年， 曾练坐功，旋因遗精而止。诊其脉，关尺沉滑，而寸口浮数；察其舌，微红润，舌 本涎沫满布；唇色淡红，不辨寒热；察其形容，血尚华色，两颐有小块赤亮。断其 阳存未亢，阴寒上击，致令肝肾不同源，肾水上泛。此肺肾脾三部同病，碍难处方 。姑以：
益智仁二钱，巴戟天二钱，胡芦巴二钱，戈半夏钱半，冬虫夏草二钱，云磁石钱半 ，另用双料黑锡丹二钱，随药吞下。
患者询何无一味涤痰痰与治肺药，余以肺为娇藏，不能再烁肺津。今汗出见热气， 不是冷汗，知阴阳尚能维系，不如温肾，取其关键力，俾不再受寒侵袭。关键有力 ，真气必上蒸六府，肺气自旺。气通，或可从此消也。服六剂，觉胸口气平，汗出 减少。其自请用附桂，余以为加桂则可，而附子燥肾水，势必燥金，肺金被灼，则 病将复发。改方：
益智仁二钱，巴戟二钱、戈半夏钱半、磁石钱半，冬虫夏草二钱，肉桂八分，菟丝 子二钱，补骨脂二钱，■■一钱，仍兼服黑锡丹。
服十剂，汗止，咳稀，仍有喘，嘱再服六剂，加蛤蚧一对，酒酥、去头足，研末， 米饮调下。最后用猪肺一叶，煮熟切片，以五味子研末，和猪肺煎食。悉如前法， 获痊可。
某女，33岁
手足心及两胁发热而不烙手，有时毛骨耸然，阴咳许久，方能咯痰，痰稠而黄，形 色焦虑，食欲甚微，喜食水果，畏惧阳光，头晕目眩。上述诸症，延续四月又半。 而其断经，已达一年三月矣。医者或谓骨蒸，或谓烧骨劳，或谓干血劳等。服药二 百余剂，皆未得手，余诊其脉，浮数互见，而关部沉细，遂犹豫难决，取诸反关， 亦形浮数，因知脉不紊乱，不能以五劳七伤论。且其舌色正常，唇见不润，显系秋 燥，肺胃津液受灼，急宜救肺养胃，处方七汁饮：
韭菜一撮、鲜生地一斤，梨一斤，藕一斤，甘蔗两支，白蜜半斤，童便一碗。除白 蜜童便后入外，余皆取汁调匀，置铜锅内煎一炷香，再入童便煎一沸，最后入白蜜 共煎，以现细米花为度，取出盛碗内，每日清晨用一调羹，开水化服，直至吃完。 食后以咳嗽时痰易出，和不畏寒为有效。甫食三天，患者咳痰易出，不大畏寒，但 仍发热。
服至十一日复诊，其面有笑容，思食粥，嘱用早米（糙米最妙）煮粥，以助胃津， 拟方柴胡清肝饮：
竹叶钱半，柴胡（鳖甲血炒）二钱，青蒿（童便炒）二钱，生龟板三钱，生鳖甲三 钱，青皮二钱，香薷（微炒）钱半，鲜生地二钱，淡菜二钱，白果二钱，胡桃肉二 钱，海浮石二钱，甘蔗汁一杯兑服。
服三剂，掌心与两胁不热，溲似酱汁，腹鸣哇哇，曾下苋菜水样物。余令其用苋菜 （胭脂苋最好）煮汤饭，以利大小肠。食后果下血水盈盆，汗透全身，病者跃然兴 起。但因其服药过多，见药生畏，向余求小单方。即令至田■找鲜地榆（即倒挂莲 ，又名早子红，此治妇科血证专药，有生血、理血、去瘀之功），和鸡燉，引入肝 部，盖肝能藏血也。按此法，治秋燥转骨蒸者。
某女，40岁。
咳嗽气喘，夜睡不能落枕，自汗不已，声音低微，两肩耸立，目陷形焦，六脉沉细 ，痰涎上逆。度其肾气已动，痰 随上泛，故不能平卧。法宜祛痰宣肺。
桑皮二钱（炙），云苓二钱，叭哒杏二钱，崔半夏二钱，化红二钱，白前二钱，芥 子二钱，苏子二钱，沙参二钱，茅根二钱，前胡二钱，另用黑锡丹一钱随药服下。
服四剂，气平痰少，夜睡能安，但仍自汗，改方：
云苓二钱，叭哒杏、崔半夏、化红、芥子、苏子、沙参、茅根、黑附、百部各二钱 。另以蛤蚧一对（酒炙去头足）研末，分四包冲服。再服四剂，诸恙皆失。
某男，54岁
两年来痰凝气逼，张口透气，骨瘦如柴，脉细而沉。其素有大（烟）瘾，知系劳伤 。勉以林文忠公戒烟法为治。
台党八钱，枸杞五钱，远志四钱，茯神四钱，当归、从蓉各五钱，熟地八钱，酒芍 四钱，炙草三钱，山茱萸四钱，淮山药四钱，菟丝饼四钱，红枣四十个，烟灰四钱 。
服方可加倍研末，练红糖为丸，日服三次，每次五十粒。服十日后，每日缩减二粒 ，连缩十日。最后一日两次，每次二十丸，吃完为度。其服至一个月，无气逼现象 ，痰亦减少，微咳。服完一料，病情悉解。
某男，年未详
秋季感冒咳嗽，痰稀而白，时流鼻涕，毛骨耸然，脉浮紧，舌红润，食欲时增时减 ，处方：
苏梗、前胡、云苓、象贝各二钱，杏仁钱半，法夏甘草一钱，桔梗钱半，藕节三个 ，令服两剂。
越二日，其云服药后无显著效果，要求吃贵重药，最好服丸药。余为其更方：
桔梗钱半，云苓、象贝、瓜蒌霜、杏仁霜各二钱，甘草一钱，藕节三个，桑叶三钱 ，■制半夏钱半，枇杷叶钱半。
服两剂，无毛骨耸然现象，咳亦见减。一日，晤乃戚某医，告以经过，欲求速效。 某医嘱服鱼肝油与参茸卫生丸，服后食欲见增，而咳嗽依旧，间或遗精。至年底， 购服全鹿丸一斤。
来年初，咳嗽大作，两颐红光，胸郁脘闷，气急难受，食减睡少，全身不适。其再 三求方，勉以：
白果、胡桃、海浮石、象贝、冬虫夏草、橘络、柿霜、苏子霜各二钱，蛇胆陈皮一 支。
服三剂，云不好不歹，但有汗，食欲见增。自求用鹿茸段、太子参配方成丸，余惟 恐糊涂坏事，不予处方。盖此人红光满面，鼻红而鲜，说话凶气逼人，乃胃有热迫 ，肺无宣教发，肾气有上泛趋势，恐致血涌出而痰内结也。用补剂治感冒咳嗽者， 当思危害性也。录此供同道参考。
3、呕吐
某男，32岁
盛暑时忽然呕吐不止，急延某医院吴院长治疗，投以吴茱萸汤。炖药时，适我过其 门，遂邀我诊。患者呕声粗大，烦躁口干，呕多水液，脘闷嘈杂，脉无伦次，面向 里睡，时透大气，虽大呕而喜静，断为暑热内伏，拟方大桔皮汤：
竹茹三钱，橘皮二钱，鲜芦根一两，童便一小杯，黄连上清丸一钱随药兑服，一剂 而安。
吴院长之吴茱萸汤因我暗示而未服（按该吴院长在南昌骄横已极，常公开叫嚣别人 不懂医理，并惯打同业。此三十年以前之事也）。
某女，8岁
临夜突然呕吐不止，面色见赤，指青赤相兼，脉一息七、八至，余认作水蓄三焦， 法以分利，方用五苓散。傍晚服药，约过四小时，呕止，该女求食，用饭半碗，即 呼饱胀难受。换方时，余知伤食伤气，嘱用煮饭锅底上之锅粑，烧成黑色，乘热服 半盅，隔十分钟又服半盅，三服而愈。此法治水去而气伤也。
男，16岁
腹痛十余日，呕吐清水，兼吐寸白虫，其饿则痛甚，饱则痛缓，断必有虫。先以五 苓散分利蓄水，后于方内加川楝子、扁豆，川椒，毕拨子，服三剂，呕、痛均愈。 但此孩骄养成性，无肉蛋则不进食，其母给蛋炒饭，腹痛又发，此儿当有虫蚀胃脘 之患。
女，51岁
任何食物，入口即吐，水浆不入，日夜难安者六日矣。其脉细软无力，难辨沉浮迟 数。此必上焦有热，中焦有寒，致令热物一进，热寒寒相争，因食入即吐。疏方：
吴茱萸四钱，党参三钱，杭芍二钱，姜枣水煎。服后一句钟，患者平静欲睡，未几 呕渐止，惟稍哕。
次日，于原方加桔皮、竹茹，锅盆上刮下之木屑同煎服，二剂全愈。
男，年未详
夜间忽而欲吐不吐，欲屙不屙，腹中绞痛，拿痧、吃药皆不见效。延至次日中午， 奄奄一息，脉息全无，未敢处方，仅据名医经验类之独圣散，令觅白马粪，置瓦上 煅成黑色，以无烟为度，研末，温水调下。未及两句钟，爬起欲便，倾出黑水甚多 ，腹痛顿减。患者再索是药，则已用完。嘱取马尿饮下，腹痛、呕逆遂止。同伴与 之稀粥，吐泻复作。余以为谷食阻碍胃气，当有上下复闭之虑，即以烧盐探吐法， 倾出粥食碗许而安。因知嘱忌谷食三天，可进百合粉、藕粉，并连服保和丸三粒而 愈。

一、内科
某男，60岁
咳嗽月余，痰液臭秽色绿，面色萎黄苍白，双目暗淡无光，时有恶寒现象，脉象浮大中空。诊断为肺痈，但尚未成脓。模仿徐灵胎治疗肺痈的五种方法，以甘凉泻火为首要原则。
黄芩三钱、黄连二钱、黄柏二钱、金银花四钱、丹皮二钱、苡米四钱
服用两剂后，情况无改变，改用滋润养血法。
火麻仁二钱、冬瓜子四钱、薏苡仁五钱、生地三钱、阿胶珠三钱、当归三钱、赤芍二钱、连翘三钱
服用两剂后，痰液臭秽已减轻，其余症状如前，采用清降驱痰法。
服用两剂后，痰液显著减少，但患者自述身体不适。调整处方：
佩兰叶二钱、白薇二钱、香薷二钱、橘络四钱、败酱草四钱、薏苡仁四钱、茅根三钱、鲜贝母四钱
服用两剂后，各种病症均见好转，改用填空补气法。
白芨四钱、黄芪四钱、阿胶四钱、薏苡仁四钱、金银花四钱、龙骨三钱、牡蛎二钱、冬瓜子四钱
另加新榨出的无盐芥菜水一盅配合服用。服用两剂后，痰液臭秽完全解除，仅早晚咳嗽。调整处方：
薏苡仁一两、冬瓜子一两，包裹在鲜嫩荷叶内，置于清水中熬煎一小时，再加入榨取的芥菜汁配合服用，自此宣告痊愈。（芥菜汁，即制作咸菜挤出的水汁，装入罐内封好，埋于门槛根下，七日后——无辛味时取出，每日用一大盅，先放在饭上蒸热，以热米汤配合服用）。
某男，50余岁
咳吐脓痰，气味难闻，脉象滑数，身体消瘦形销骨立。古人说“咳出脓血者不治”，我坚决反对这一说法。然而患者再三请求，暂且让生黄豆咀嚼，检验其是否呕吐，然后拟定处方：
金银花五钱，败酱草五钱，象贝母三钱、连翘二钱、桔梗二钱、苡米二钱、大黄二钱、黄芩二钱、土茯苓二钱
服用八剂后，咳嗽、脓痰及臭气均见减少，调整处方：
白芨三钱、阿胶三钱、苡米四钱、丹皮二钱，北黄芪三钱，海浮石二钱，冬瓜子三钱
再服用八剂，痊愈。善后调理法：
某男，40岁

服用两剂后，脉象无浮象，关部搏指有力，面色回润，痰液臭秽亦减。在原方中去掉百部、海浮石，加入：
冬瓜子三钱、白芨二钱、阿胶珠三钱、北黄芪三钱，鲜荷叶一片，同煎。
再服用两剂，其妻认为病已全愈，仅属体弱，于是杀鸡供食，食后痰液臭秽复发，气逼难受，睡不安宁。我认为不仅伤食，且有房劳过度，仍守前方兼泻肺解毒法治之，获得痊愈。
2、喘咳
某女，55岁
素患咳嗽，气逆痰多，脉象沉无力，唯独寸口脉滑数，舌无苔，涎沫满布，面色㿠白，痰声漉漉，气上冲胸，俯仰不得，临夜大汗，漫及头颈。良由肺寒而引动肾气，致成痰喘肺痿，非哮症也。治法应当
明附子三钱，益智仁二钱、桑白皮（炙）二钱，紫菀二钱，巴戟天二钱，半夏钱半，百部二钱，煨姜一钱。
外加黑锡丹一小瓶，随药吞服。
服用四剂后，汗少气平，尚能仰卧。但畏寒甚，毛骨耸然，调整处方：
益智仁二钱，桑白皮（炙）二钱、紫菀二钱、巴戟天二钱，煨姜一钱，明附子四钱，肉桂一钱二分，蛤蚧（酒浸置泥炕焙干）二钱，仍加黑锡丹一小瓶，随汤吞下。
服用四剂后，无畏寒现象，但仍咳喘自汗，于是令购买蛤蚧（制法同前），每日早晨以米汤送服蛤蚧末（一对分两日服）。服用后喘汗均愈，仍咳嗽。我判断其肺、肾两脏功能失职，担心后来变为足肿身肿。
某男，22岁

服用四剂后，气平痰少，夜睡能安，但仍自汗，调整处方：
云苓二钱，叭哒杏、崔半夏、化红、芥子、苏子、沙参、茅根、黑附子、百部各二钱。另以蛤蚧一对（酒炙去头足）研末，分四包冲服。再服四剂，诸恙皆失。
某男，54岁
两年来痰凝气逼，张口透气，骨瘦如柴，脉细而沉。其素有大烟瘾，知系劳伤。勉以林文忠公戒烟法为治。
台党参八钱，枸杞五钱，远志四钱，茯神四钱，当归、从蓉各五钱，熟地八钱，酒芍四钱，炙甘草三钱，山茱萸四钱，淮山药四钱，菟丝饼四钱，红枣四十个，烟灰四钱。
服方可加倍研末，炼红糖为丸，日服三次，每次五十粒。服十日后，每日缩减二粒，连缩十日。最后一日两次，每次二十丸，吃完为度。其服至一个月，无气逼现象，痰亦减少，微咳。服完一料，病情悉解。
某男，年未详
秋季感冒咳嗽，痰稀而白，时流鼻涕，毛骨耸然，脉浮紧，舌红润，食欲时增时减，处方：
苏梗、前胡、云苓、象贝母各二钱，杏仁钱半，法夏甘草一钱，桔梗钱半，藕节三个，令服两剂。
越二日，其云服药后无显著效果，要求吃贵重药，最好服丸药。我为其更方：
桔梗钱半，云苓、象贝母、瓜蒌霜、杏仁霜各二钱，甘草一钱，藕节三个，桑叶三钱，■制半夏钱半，枇杷叶钱半。
服用两剂后，无毛骨耸然现象，咳嗽亦见减。一日，晤乃戚某医，告以经过，欲求速效。某医嘱服鱼肝油与参茸卫生丸，服用后食欲见增，而咳嗽依旧，间或遗精。至年底，购服全鹿丸一斤。
来年初，咳嗽大作，两颐红光，胸郁脘闷，气急难受，食减睡少，全身不适。其再三求方，勉以：
白果、胡桃、海浮石、象贝母、冬虫夏草、橘络、柿霜、苏子霜各二钱，蛇胆陈皮一支。
服用三剂后，云不好不歹，但有汗，食欲见增。自求用鹿茸段、太子参配方成丸，我惟恐糊涂坏事，不予处方。盖此人红光满面，鼻红而鲜，说话凶气逼人，乃胃有热迫，肺无宣教发，肾气有上泛趋势，恐致血涌出而痰内结也。用补剂治感冒咳嗽者，当思危害性也。录此供同道参考。
3、呕吐
某男，32岁
盛暑时忽然呕吐不止，急延某医院吴院长治疗，投以吴茱萸汤。炖药时，适我过其门，遂邀我诊。患者呕声粗大，烦躁口干，呕多水液，脘闷嘈杂，脉无伦次，面向里睡，时透大气，虽大呕而喜静，诊断为暑热内伏，拟定处方大桔皮汤：
竹茹三钱，橘皮二钱，鲜芦根一两，童便一小杯，黄连上清丸一钱随药兑服，一剂而安。
吴院长之吴茱萸汤因我暗示而未服（按该吴院长在南昌骄横已极，常公开叫嚣别人不懂医理，并惯打同业。此三十年以前之事也）。
某女，8岁
临夜突然呕吐不止，面色见赤，指青赤相兼，脉一息七、八至，我认作水蓄三焦，治法以分利，方用五苓散。傍晚服药，约过四小时，呕止，该女求食，用饭半碗，即呼饱胀难受。换方时，我知伤食伤气，嘱用煮饭锅底上之锅粑，烧成黑色，乘热服半盅，隔十分钟又服半盅，三服而愈。此法治水去而气伤也。
男，16岁
腹痛十余日，呕吐清水，兼吐寸白虫，其饿则痛甚，饱则痛缓，断定必有虫。先以五苓散分利蓄水，后于方内加川楝子、扁豆，川椒，毕拨子，服用三剂，呕、痛均愈。但此孩骄养成性，无肉蛋则不进食，其母给蛋炒饭，腹痛又发，此儿当有虫蚀胃脘之患。
女，51岁
任何食物，入口即吐，水浆不入，日夜难安者六日矣。其脉细软无力，难辨沉浮迟数。此必上焦有热，中焦有寒，致令热物一进，热寒寒相争，因食入即吐。疏方：
吴茱萸四钱，党参三钱，杭芍二钱，姜枣水煎。服用后一句钟，患者平静欲睡，未几呕渐止，惟稍哕。
次日，于原方加桔皮、竹茹，锅盆上刮下之木屑同煎服，二剂全愈。
男，年未详
夜间忽而欲吐不吐，欲屙不屙，腹中绞痛，拿痧、吃药皆不见效。延至次日中午，奄奄一息，脉息全无，未敢处方，仅据名医经验类之独圣散，令觅白马粪，置瓦上煅成黑色，以无烟为度，研末，温水调下。未及两句钟，爬起欲便，倾出黑水甚多，腹痛顿减。患者再索是药，则已用完。嘱取马尿饮下，腹痛、呕逆遂止。同伴与之稀粥，吐泻复作。我以为谷食阻碍胃气，当有上下复闭之虑，即以烧盐探吐法，倾出粥食碗许而安。因知嘱忌谷食三天，可进百合粉、藕粉，并连服保和丸三粒而愈。

Diagnosed as Lung Abscess, but pus has not yet formed. Mimicking Xu Lingtai's five methods for treating Lung Abscess, using sweet-cool fire-draining as the primary principle.

Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) 1 liang, Dongguazi (Benincasae Semen) 1 liang, wrapped in fresh lotus leaves, boiled in clear water for one hour, then mixed with extracted mustard greens juice. From this point, full recovery was achieved. (Mustard greens juice refers to the liquid squeezed out during the making of salted vegetables, sealed in a jar, buried under the door threshold for seven days—until no pungent taste remains. Take one large cup daily, steamed hot over rice, and taken with hot rice soup).

Coughing and spitting up purulent sputum with an unbearable odor, pulse is slippery and rapid, body is thin and emaciated. Ancient texts say "those who cough up pus are incurable," but I firmly rejected this view. However, due to the patient's repeated requests, I temporarily had him chew raw soybeans to test if he would vomit, then prescribed:

Coughing with aversion to cold, profuse and foul-smelling sputum, restless sleep at night, feeling foul odor rushing up to the throat when bowing head, pulse is floating and tight at Cun and Chi positions, deep at Guan position, tongue is red and slippery, appearance is withered. Although lung abscess has formed, pus has not yet developed. Urgently needed to open orifices and clear Metal (Lung), prescribed:

After two doses, night cough became sparse, aversion to cold disappeared, pulse was floating but not tight, only sputum odor remained the same. Adopted detoxification, heat-clearing, yin-nourishing, and lung-clearing method.

After two doses, pulse lost its floating quality, Guan position beat strongly against fingers, complexion returned to moistness, sputum odor decreased. Removed Baibu and Haifushi from original formula, added:
Dongguazi (Benincasae Semen) 3 qian, Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma) 2 qian, Ejiao Zhu (Colla Corii Asini processed bead) 3 qian, Bei Qi (Astragali Radix) 3 qian, one piece of fresh lotus leaf, decocted together.
After another two doses, his wife thought he was fully recovered and merely weak, so she killed a chicken for food. After eating, sputum odor recurred, breathlessness and discomfort ensued, sleep was restless. I believed it was not just food stagnation but also sexual exhaustion. I stuck to the previous formula combined with lung-draining and detoxifying methods, achieving recovery.
2. Asthma and Cough
Female, 55 years old
Suffering from chronic cough, rebellious Qi, profuse sputum, pulse is deep and powerless, except for Cun Kou which is slippery and rapid, tongue has no coating, saliva and foam cover the mouth, complexion is pale white, sound of rattling sputum, Qi rushes to chest, unable to bend or straighten, heavy sweating at night spreading to head and neck. Caused by Lung Cold drawing Kidney Qi, resulting in Phlegm-Asthma and Lung Flaccidity, not Wheezing Syndrome. Method should be
Warming Kidney and securing True Qi, clearing Metal and stopping turbidity.
Ming Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 3 qian, Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) 2 qian, Sangpi (processed Mori Cortex) 2 qian, Ziwan (Asturi Flos) 2 qian, Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) 2 qian, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Baibu (Stemonae Radix) 2 qian, Wei Jiang (Prepared Zingiberis Rhizoma) 1 qian.
Plus one small bottle of Heixi Dan (Black Tin Pill), swallowed with medicine.
After four doses, sweating decreased, breathing leveled, able to lie on back. But severe aversion to cold, hair standing on end. Modified prescription:
Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) 2 qian, Sangpi (processed Mori Cortex) 2 qian, Ziwan (Asturi Flos) 2 qian, Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) 2 qian, Wei Jiang (Prepared Zingiberis Rhizoma) 1 qian, Ming Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 4 qian, Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1.2 qian, Gejie (Geckonis Carapax et Squama) 2 qian (soaked in wine, dried on clay kiln), still adding one small bottle of Heixi Dan, swallowed with decoction.
After four doses, no more aversion to cold, but still asthma, cough, and spontaneous sweating. Instructed to buy Gejie (prepared as before), take Gejie powder with rice soup every morning morning (one pair divided into two days). After taking, asthma and sweating cured, but cough remained. I judged that both Lung and Kidney were failing in their duties, fearing later development of foot and body swelling.
Male, 22 years old
Asthma and cough for eight years, sometimes blood in sputum, pulse is floating and slippery, unable to work. This is due to blocked Lung orifices causing Lung Qi stagnation. Ordered to take a segment of fresh lotus root, keeping both ends intact, cutting about one cun near one end to serve as a lid, then pouring white honey into the hole, covering it, sealing the cut with paper, tying with white cloth, and boiling in a clay pot for the time it takes to burn one incense stick. Patient eats it while hot. Taken more than ten times, asthma and cough reduced. Then used four liang of lard, strained, added half a jin of glutinous rice sugar, melted in oil, added four liang of white honey, stirring constantly until it pulls threads. Take one spoon daily dissolved. Since then, all ailments disappeared. Now can carry over a hundred jin.
Male, over 60 years old
Frequent night coughing, unable to lie flat, heavy sweating at cockcrow, rising heat causing irritability. Widowed for over ten years, practiced sitting meditation, stopped due to seminal emission. Pulse: Guan and Chi are deep and slippery, Cun Kou is floating and rapid; Tongue: slightly red and moist, base covered with saliva/foam; Lips: pale red, hard to distinguish cold/heat; Appearance: blood luster present, small bright red patches on cheeks. Judged Yang exists but is not hyperactive, Yin-Cold attacks upward, causing Liver and Kidney to lack common source, Kidney Water floods upward. Disease involves Lung, Kidney, and Spleen simultaneously, difficult to prescribe. Temporarily given:
Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) 2 qian, Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) 2 qian, Hulusba (Proteae Semen) 2 qian, Ge Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma prepared with alum) 1.5 qian, Dongchong Xiacao (Cordyceps) 2 qian, Yun Cishi (Magnetitum) 1.5 qian, plus double-strength Heixi Dan 2 qian, swallowed with medicine.
Patient asked why there were no phlegm-resolving or Lung-treating herbs. I explained Lung is a delicate organ, cannot bear further drying of Lung fluids. The sweat shows heat, not cold sweat, indicating Yin and Yang can still maintain balance. Better to warm Kidney, leveraging its key power to prevent cold invasion. With strong key power, True Qi will steam upwards to Six Fu Organs, Lung Qi will naturally prosper. With Qi flowing, disease may dissipate. After six doses, chest felt calm, sweating reduced. Patient requested Fuzi and Rougui. I agreed to add Rougui, but warned that Fuzi dries Kidney Water, inevitably drying Metal; if Lung Metal is scorched, disease will recur. Modified prescription:
Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) 2 qian, Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) 2 qian, Ge Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma prepared with alum) 1.5 qian, Cishi (Magnetitum) 1.5 qian, Dongchong Xiacao (Cordyceps) 2 qian, Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 0.8 qian, Tiansizi (Cuscutae Semen) 2 qian, Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus) 2 qian, ■■ 1 qian, still taking Heixi Dan.
After ten doses, sweating stopped, cough sparse, but asthma remained. Instructed to take six more doses, adding one Gejie (Geckonis Carapax et Squama), processed with wine, removing head and feet, powdered, taken with rice drink. Finally, used one pig lung leaf, boiled and sliced, mixed with powdered Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), and cooked/eaten. Following previous methods, achieved recovery.
Female, 33 years old
Heat in palms, soles, and hypochondrium without burning touch, occasional chills, chronic dry cough producing thick yellow sputum after long effort, anxious expression, poor appetite, prefers fruit, fears sunlight, dizziness. Symptoms persisted for four and a half months. Menopause lasted one year and three months. Doctors diagnosed Bone Steaming, Burning Bone Labor, or Dry Blood Labor. Took over 200 doses of medicine without effect. My pulse diagnosis showed alternating floating and rapid qualities, deep and fine at Guan. Hesitant, checked reverse Guan pulse, also floating and rapid, knowing pulse was not chaotic, could not diagnose as Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries. Tongue color normal, lips not moist, clearly Autumn Dryness, Lung and Stomach fluids scorched. Urgently needed to save Lung and nourish Stomach, prescribed Seven Juices Drink:
Jiucai (Allii Tuberosi Herba) a handful, Xian Shengdi (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix) 1 jin, Li (Pyrus Communis Fructus) 1 jin, Ou (Nelumbinis Rhizoma) 1 jin, Zhugan (Sacchari Sacchariflori Caulis) two stalks, Baimi (Mel) half a jin, Tongbian (Child Urine) one bowl. Except for Baimi and Tongbian added later, others juiced and mixed, boiled in copper pot for one incense stick time, then Tongbian added and boiled once, finally Baimi added and boiled together, until fine rice flowers appear. Take one spoon in morning with warm water until finished. Effective if sputum comes easily with cough and no aversion to cold. After three days, sputum came easily, less aversion to cold, but fever remained.
Review on day 11, smiling, craving porridge. Instructed to cook early rice (brown rice best) to help Stomach fluids, prescribed Chaihu Qinggan Yin:
Zhuye (Phyllostachydis Folium) 1.5 qian, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 2 qian (stir-fried with Turtle blood), Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) 2 qian (stir-fried with child urine), Sheng Guiban (Carapax Testudinis) 3 qian, Sheng Biejia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis) 3 qian, Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) 2 qian, Xiangru (Elsholtziae Herba) 1.5 qian (lightly stir-fried), Xian Shengdi (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix) 2 qian, Dancai (Mytili Edulis Concha) 2 qian, Baiguo (Ginkgonis Semen) 2 qian, Hutao Rou (Juglandis Semen) 2 qian, Haifushi (Pumex) 2 qian, mix with one cup Zhugan juice.
After three doses, palms and hypochondrium no longer hot, urine like sauce, abdominal rumbling, passed amaranth-water-like matter. Instructed to cook amaranth (best if red amaranth) soup with rice to benefit Large and Small Intestines. After eating, passed basin-full of bloody water, sweating through whole body, patient jumped up energetically. But due to excessive medication, feared medicine, asked for simple prescription. Sent to field edge to find Xian Diyü (Fresh Sanguisorbae Radix, also called Hanging Lotus or Early Red, specific for gynecological blood disorders, generates blood, regulates blood, removes stasis), stewed with chicken to enter Liver channel, as Liver stores blood. Using this method treats Autumn Dryness turning into Bone Steaming.
Female, 40 years old.
Cough and asthma, unable to rest head at night, continuous spontaneous sweating, low voice, shoulders raised, sunken eyes and emaciated body, six pulses deep and fine, phlegm-saliva rebelling upward. Judged Kidney Qi moved, phlegm flooded upward, hence unable to lie flat. Method: resolve phlegm and diffuse Lung.
Sangpi (processed Mori Cortex) 2 qian, Yun Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Badaxing (Pruni Armeniaci Semen Amarum) 2 qian, Cui Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma prepared with alum) 2 qian, Hua Hong 2 qian, Baiqian (Cymbopterygii Rhizoma) 2 qian, Jiezi (Brassicae Semenis) 2 qian, Suzi (Perillae Fructus) 2 qian, Shashen (Glehniae Radix) 2 qian, Maogen (Imperatae Rhizoma) 2 qian, Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) 2 qian, plus one qian of Heixi Dan taken with medicine.
After four doses, breathing calm, sputum less, sleep peaceful, but still spontaneous sweating. Modified prescription:
Yun Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Badaxing, Cui Banxia, Hua Hong, Jiezi, Suzi, Shashen, Maogen, Hei Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix), Baibu each 2 qian. Plus one Gejie (Geckonis Carapax et Squama) (wine-processed, head/feet removed), powdered, divided into four packs to wash down. After four more doses, all ailments disappeared.

For two years, phlegm stagnation and Qi oppression, gasping for air, skeletal emaciation, pulse fine and deep. Had severe smoking addiction, known as consumption injury. Tentatively treated with Lin Wenzhong's smoking cessation method.

Powder the prescription, double the amount, refine brown sugar into pills, take three times daily, 50 pills each time. After ten days, reduce by two pills daily, continue for ten days. Sugeng (Perillae Caulis), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Yun Ling (Poria), Xiangbei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus) each 2 qian, Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) 1.5 qian, Fa Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparata) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1.5 qian, Oujie (Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Nodus) three pieces. Instructed to take two doses.
Two days later, reported no significant effect, requested expensive medicine, preferably pills. Modified prescription:
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1.5 qian, Yun Ling (Poria), Xiangbei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Gualou Shuang (Benincasae Exocarpium Pulvis), Xingren Shuang (Armeniacae Semen Amarum Pulvis) each 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Oujie (Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Nodus) three pieces, Sangye (Mori Folium) 3 qian, ■ Prepared Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium) 1.5 qian.
After two doses, no chills, cough reduced. Met relative's doctor friend, told him the history, seeking quick effect. Doctor advised Fish Liver Oil and Shenrong Weisheng Wan (Ginseng and Deer Antler Health Pill). Appetite increased, but cough persisted, occasional seminal emission. By year-end, bought and took one jin of Quanlu Wan (Whole Deer Pill).
Early next year, cough worsened, cheeks red, chest stuffiness and epigastric fullness, breathlessness, reduced appetite and sleep, general malaise. Repeatedly requested prescription. Tentatively gave:
Baiguo (Ginkgonis Semen), Hutao (Juglandis Semen), Haifushi (Pumex), Xiangbei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Dongchong Xiacao (Cordyceps), Jieluo (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Retinervium), Shishuang (Diospyros Fructus Frost), Suzi Shuang (Perillae Fructus Pulvis) each 2 qian, Shedan Chenpi (Snake Gallbladder and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) one branch.
After three doses, said neither good nor bad, but sweating, appetite increased. Self-requested Lu Rong (Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum) and Taizishen (Pseudostellariae Radix) to make pills. I refused, fearing confusion and harm. This person had ruddy face, bright red nose, aggressive speech, indicating Stomach Heat forcing, Lung lacking diffusion/descending, Kidney Qi trending upward, risking blood rushing and internal phlegm knotting. Using tonics for cold/cough carries danger. Recorded for colleagues' reference.
3. Vomiting
Male, 32 years old
Sudden incessant vomiting during peak summer heat. Urgently sought treatment from Hospital Director Wu, who prescribed Wuzhuyu Tang. While brewing medicine, I passed by and was invited to diagnose. Patient had loud vomiting sounds, irritability, dry mouth, vomiting much fluid, epigastric stuffiness and discomfort, pulse chaotic, sleeping facing inward, occasionally sighing deeply, preferring quiet despite severe vomiting. Diagnosed as Summer-Heat Heat internally latent. Prescribed Da Jupi Tang:
Zhuru (Bambusae Folium) 3 qian, Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 2 qian, Xian Lugen (Phragmitis Rhizoma) 1 liang, Tongbian (Child Urine) small cup, Huanglian Shangqing Wan (Coptidis Clearing Upper Heat Pill) 1 qian mixed with medicine. One dose brought peace.
Director Wu's Wuzhuyu Tang was not taken due to my hint (Note: This Director Wu was extremely arrogant in Nanchang, often publicly claiming others didn't understand medical principles, and habitually beating peers. This was over thirty years ago).

Sudden incessant vomiting at night, reddish face, fingers cyanotic-red mixed, pulse 7-8 beats per breath. Identified as Water accumulation in Sanjiao. Method: separate and drain. Formula: Wuling San. Evening administration, after about four hours, vomiting stopped. Girl asked for food, ate half bowl rice, then complained of bloating and discomfort. Changing formula, knowing food stagnation injured Qi, instructed to use burnt rice crust (Guoba) from bottom of cooking pot, burned black, take half cup hot, another half cup ten minutes later. Three doses cured. This method treats Water removal injuring Qi.

Abdominal pain for over ten days, vomiting clear water, also vomiting tapeworm segments. Pain severe when hungry, relieved when full. Determined presence of parasites. First used Wuling San to separate and drain accumulated water, then added Chuanlianzi (Toosendan Fructus), Biandou (Phaseoli Semen), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Biboli (Long Pepper Fruit) to formula. Three doses cured vomiting and pain. But this spoiled child refuses food without meat/eggs. Mother gave egg fried rice, abdominal pain recurred. Child likely has worms eroding stomach.

Any food vomited immediately upon entry, unable to keep liquids down, restless day and night for six days. Pulse fine, soft, powerless, hard to distinguish floating/sinking, slow/rapid. Must be Heat in Upper Jiao, Cold in Middle Jiao, causing conflict between incoming heat and existing cold, leading to immediate vomiting upon ingestion. Prescribed:
Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 4 qian, Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix) 3 qian, Hangshao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 2 qian, decocted with Ginger and Jujube. After one hour, patient calm, wanting to sleep, vomiting gradually stopped, only slight hiccups.
Next day, added Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Zhuru (Bambusae Folium) to original formula, scraped wood shavings from pot/pans, decocted together. Two doses cured.
Male, age unknown
Suddenly wanted to vomit but couldn't, wanted to defecate but couldn't, severe abdominal cramping. Massage and medicine ineffective. Next noon, nearly dead, pulse absent. Dare not prescribe. Based on famous doctor experience similar to Dusheng San, instructed to find white horse dung, calcine on tile until black, smokeless, powder, mix with warm water. Within two hours, crawled up to defecate, discharged much black water, abdominal pain instantly reduced. Patient asked for more medicine, but it was finished. Instructed to drink horse urine, abdominal pain and vomiting ceased. Companions gave thin porridge, vomiting/diarrhea recurred. Believed grain food obstructed Stomach Qi, worried about upper/lower closure again. Used roasted salt to induce vomiting, expelled about one bowl of porridge, stabilized. Instructed to avoid grain food for three days, consume Lily bulb powder and Lotus root powder, take three Baohe Wan pills continuously, cured.
