[Formula Song] Xuer Chuang (Otitis Externa / Auricular Eczema) arises in the crease behind the ear, spreading up and down causing ear pain; its appearance resembles a knife-cut fissure caused by Damp-Heat. Applying Chuanfen San (Cave Earth Powder) will bring success.
[Note] This condition arises between the creases behind the ear, extending to the folds of the auricle, presenting a shape like a knife-cut fissure. The color is red, often exuding yellow fluid, caused by Damp-Heat in the Gallbladder and Spleen meridians. However, this sore fluctuates with the moon's phases: it worsens when the moon is full and improves when the moon wanes, hence it is also called Yueshi Chuang (Moon-bitten Sore). It is suitable to apply Chuanfen San externally for effective treatment.
Formula: Chuanfen San (Cave Earth Powder)
Composition: Qingfen (Calomel, ground, lightly stir-fried through paper), Chanshanjia (Pangolin Scales, roasted), Qianfen (Lead Carbonate), Huangdan (Litharge, processed by water levigation), each 3 qian.
Grind all into an extremely fine powder, mix with Sesame Oil, and apply to the affected area.
[Formula Song] Chuanfen San applied for Xuer Chuang clears Heat and leaches out Dampness, mixed with oil is excellent; Qingfen is ground fine and stir-fried through paper, combined with Chanshanjia, Qianfen, and Huangdan.
[Formula Song] Kou Chuang (Oral Ulcers) in adults are differentiated into Deficiency and Excess patterns: bright red indicates Excess, pale red indicates Deficiency. In Excess patterns, there are widespread ulcerated spots and swelling; in Deficiency patterns, the lesions are white, non-swollen, with sparse, slight spots.
[Note] This condition is named Kou Chuang (Oral Ulcers), divided into Deficient Fire and Excess Fire. Deficient Fire presents as pale red color, with white spots scattered across the mouth; severe cases show depressed,龟-like cracks, a deficient pulse, and no thirst. This results from excessive mental exertion, frequent waking with little sleep, leading to a failure of communication between the Heart and Kidney, with Deficient Fire flaming upward. It is suitable to take Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark), Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), and Danpi (Moutan Cortex), with a small amount of Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) as a guiding agent, which is a method of treating according to the nature of the disease. Externally, Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder) can be applied. Excess Fire presents as bright red color, with widespread ulcerated spots; severe cases involve swelling of the cheeks and tongue, a solid pulse, and dry mouth. This results from overconsumption of rich, greasy foods, strong wine, and roasted meats, causing Excess Fire in the Heart and Spleen to move recklessly. It is suitable to take Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder) and apply Fuyan San (Banquet Attending Powder) externally; relief comes after spitting saliva. If oral ulcers are accompanied by a dry tongue, yellow hard coating, and thirst, Jiajian Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill) should be taken to nourish the source of transformation; rinsing the mouth with water is prohibited in all cases.
Formula: Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder)
Composition: Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, powdered, 1 liang), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 3 qian), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, 1 qian), Longnaoxiang (Borneol, 2 qian).
Grind each finely, then mix together thoroughly. Use a small amount each time and apply to the affected area.
[Formula Song] Liuhua San treats white Kou Chuang, composed of Huangbai, Qingdai, and Longnaoxiang; Rougui is ground together and applied to the site, calming the flaming-up of Deficient Fire naturally.
Another Formula: Fuyan San (Banquet Attending Powder)
Composition: Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, raw), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, powdered), Xixin (Asarum).
Grind all into a fine powder. Use a small amount each time and apply to the affected area.
[Formula Song] Fuyan San attacks Excess Fire in oral ulcers, where spots are often bright red; Huangqin, Huanglian, Zhizi, Ganjiang, Huangbai, and Xixin ground together work miraculously.
Another Formula: Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder) (see section on Facial Furuncles)
Jiaban Bawei Tang (Modified Eight-Ingredient Decoction) (see section on Ulcers)
