一种是因为洗衣服时夜间露天放置,被“无辜鸟”(传说中的一种毒鸟)落下的羽毛污染,婴儿穿上这种衣服后,导致患上此病;

The transmission of Wugu Gan (Innocent Child's Malnutrition) has two causes: one is contamination by bird feathers and soiled clothing coming into contact with the infant; the other is transmission from a sick wet nurse. The manifestations include sores or lymph node enlargement (scrofula) in the neck region, which may rupture and discharge pus. If not treated promptly, parasites may erode the internal organs, leading to emaciation, sallow complexion, fever, and the development of Gan syndrome. Treatment should first clear heat using Chaihu Yin (Bupleurum Decoction); subsequently, to eliminate Gan, Lushui Fei'er Wan (Aloe and Infant-Nourishing Pill) is highly effective.
[Note]
Wugu Gan refers to a condition with two primary etiologies:
One cause is exposure during laundry washing at night outdoors, where feathers from the "Wugu Bird" (a mythical toxic bird) contaminate the clothes; wearing such garments induces this disease in infants.
The other cause is infectious transmission from a mother suffering from illness to her nursing infant.
Clinical signs include sores on the neck or elastic-sized nodules that are mobile upon palpation, soft in texture, and painless.
Inside these nodules, worm-like structures resembling rice flour may be found. If not promptly lanced and drained, these worms can erode the Zang-Fu organs, resulting in purulent bloody stools,
emaciation, sallow complexion, and fever.
Therapy should initially focus on clearing heat, primarily utilizing Chaihu Yin (Bupleurum Decoction); thereafter, to resolve Gan accumulation, Lushui Fei'er Wan (Aloe and Infant-Nourishing Pill) is indicated.
(Chaihu Yin / Bupleurum Decoction) Ingredients: Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber processed with ginger), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Xia Ku Cao (Prunella Spike), Long Dan Cao (Gentian Root), Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria Thunbergii Bulb), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) raw. Decoct with Deng Xin Cao (Juncus Effusus) water for administration.
(Prescription Song)
Chaihu Yin treats Wugu Gan, comprising Chi Shao, Chai Hu, and Chuan Huang Lian;
Ban Xia, Jie Geng, and Xia Ku Cao are added, along with Long Dan, Zhe Bei, Huang Qin, and Gan Cao for decoction.
(Lushui Fei'er Wan / Aloe and Infant-Nourishing Pill) See the section on Liver Gan for the formula details.

When bones protrude all over the body, it is termed Dingxi Gan (Stilt-legged Malnutrition). The muscles are dry and rough, accompanied by ceaseless crying day and night. The limbs are withered and thin, the face is dark and sallow, the neck is slender while the abdomen is distended with umbilical herniation. The sacrum is emaciated, the body feels flaccid, and there is mental fatigue. These symptoms are often followed by bone-steaming tidal fever, thirst, and irritability. Treatment should involve resolving stagnation and eliminating accumulation via Wu Gan Xiao Ji Wan (Five-Gan Accumulation-Resolving Pill); for subsequent nourishment and tonification, Renshen Qipi Wan (Ginseng Spleen-Initiating Pill) is appropriate.
