[Bone Measurements from Ling Shu Jing]
[1] From the shoulder to the elbow, the length is 1 chi 7 cun.
[2] From the elbow to the wrist, the length is 1 chi 2.5 cun. (The middle joint of the arm is called the elbow.)
[3] From the wrist to the base joint (metacarpophalangeal joint) of the middle finger, the length is 4 cun. (The junction of the arm and palm is called the wrist.)
[4] From the base joint to the tip, the length is 4.5 cun. (The posterior joint of the finger is called the base joint.)
[5] From below the knee to the lateral malleolus, the length is 1 chi 6 cun.
[6] From below the popliteal fossa to the tarsal region, the length is 1 chi 2 cun. (Popliteal fossa refers to the back of the knee. Tarsal region refers to the dorsum of the foot. The knee is anterior, and the popliteal fossa is posterior. The tarsal region refers to all areas where the tibia and sole intersect anteriorly and posteriorly between the two malleoli, which belong to the tarsal category.)
[7] From the tarsal region to the ground, the length is 3 cun.
[8] From below the lateral malleolus to the ground, the length is 1 cun.

Commentary: [1] Bone measurements are from the "Bone Measurement" chapter of the *Ling Shu Jing* (Spiritual Pivot), discussing the lengths of bones using ancient standards. [2] However, individuals with larger bones exceed these measures, while those with smaller bones fall short; this text merely states the general standard. [3] For measuring the limbs and body, the "Same-Body Cun" method using the index and middle fingers is correct. The details of the Same-Body Cun measurement method are found in acupuncture and moxibustion texts.
[Extremities: Huantiao]
[1] Huantiao (GB30) is located in the depression on the lateral aspect of the hip bone. Its shape resembles a mortar, accommodating the upper end of the femur like a pestle. This area is named Ji (Hinge), also known as Bisu (Thigh Pivot), which corresponds to the location of the Huantiao acupoint.
[2] If caused by falls or blows, or by twisting injuries such as getting a foot caught in a stirrup, leading to dislocation or strain of the pivot mechanism, resulting in cyanosis, swelling, pain, inability to walk, or difficulty walking and standing with a tilted posture, one should first take Zhenggu Zijin Dan (Orthopedic Purple Gold Pill), wash the area with Haitongpi Tang (Phellodendron Bark Decoction), apply Wanling Gao (Ten Thousand Spirits Plaster), and regularly take Jianbu Huqian Wan (Walking Strengthening Tiger Concealing Pill).
