The "pseudo-stroke" (Lei Zhong Feng) syndromes resemble true stroke, but conditions such as Corpse-Jue (Shi Jue), deficiency of middle-jiao (Zhong Xu), qi obstruction (Zhong Qi), food stagnation (Zhong Shi), cold invasion (Zhong Han), fire invasion (Zhong Huo), dampness invasion (Zhong Shi), summerheat invasion (Zhong Shu), and evil qi invasion (Zhong E), although all presenting with sudden fainting or coma, are distinguished by the absence of facial deviation (Kou Yan Wai Xie) and hemiplegia (Pian Fei).
[Annotation] Pseudo-stroke syndromes are all named "Corpse-Jue," meaning the body is cold and stiff (Jue) but the vital qi has not perished. Thus, breath may seem absent at the mouth and nose, resembling a dead corpse, yet the pulse continues to beat. Conditions such as deficiency of middle-jiao, qi obstruction, food stagnation, cold invasion, fire invasion, dampness invasion, summerheat invasion, and evil qi invasion, although causing sudden collapse and loss of consciousness, resembling true stroke, can be naturally distinguished if there is no facial deviation, hemiplegia, numbness, or paralysis.
Du Shen Tang (Ginseng Monograph Decoction) Shen Fu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction) Xing Xiang Tang (Arisaema and Costus Decoction) San Wu Bei Ji Dan (Three-Ingredient Emergency Preparative Pill) Duo Ming San (Life-Restoring Powder)
2. In Corpse-Jue, breath is weak while the pulse beats, or the pulse is fine and minute, appearing and disappearing. This is due to exhaustion of qi and blood after illness; for phlegm obstructing qi closure with abdominal fullness and constipation of urine and stool, use Ren Shen, Shen Fu Tang, or Xing Xiang Tang; for acute abdominal pain, use San Wu Bei Ji Dan. If bowel sounds return and vomiting/defecation occur after administration, it is effective. For phlegm knotting in the throat, use Duo Ming San first.
[Annotation] Corpse-Jue syndrome has deficiency and excess types. For deficiency, use Du Shen Tang. For deficiency combined with cold, use Shen Fu Tang. This formula contains Mu Xiang, Huo Xiang, Sha Ren, Bai Kou, Gan Cao, Ding Xiang, and Tan Xiang.
[Annotation] "Shi Qi Zhong" refers to qi obstruction in persons with robust constitution and qi. It is caused by sudden anger and rebellious qi, leading to sudden fainting and jaw stiffness. "Floating pulse and warm limbs vs. deep pulse and cold limbs" means that in wind-stroke patients, the pulse is floating and hands/feet are warm; in qi-obstruction patients, the pulse is deep and hands/feet are cold, which allows distinction. This formula contains Mu Xiang, Huo Xiang, Sha Ren, Bai Kou, Gan Cao, Ding Xiang, and Tan Xiang.

9. Summerheat invasion must be differentiated into Yin Summerheat and Yang Summerheat. Yin Summerheat presents without sweat, resembling cold damage, with high fever, irritability, or vomiting/diarrhea; treat with Xiang Ru Bian Po Er Xiang Tang. If accompanied by mental confusion, profuse sweating, greasy face, panting, and thirst, it is Yang Summerheat, contracted from walking under the scorching sun, causing internal and external heat. For initial confusion and unconsciousness, urgently apply hot fomentation to the umbilicus and灌 garlic juice water to restore consciousness, then use Chen Sha Yi Yuan San. For excess qi, use Cang Zhu Bai Hu Tang; for deficiency qi, use Ren Shen Bai Hu Tang, choosing appropriately.
[Annotation] "Yin pathogen without sweat resembles cold damage" refers to Yin Summerheat, resembling cold damage with headache, body ache, aversion to cold, and no sweat, but additionally featuring high fever, irritability, vomiting, or diarrhea. Contracted from cooling off after summerheat exposure, with cold outside and summerheat inside, use Xiang Ru Yin.
