Passage:
The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) states: The spleen and stomach are the officials responsible for storage and transport, from which the five flavors arise.
It further states: The stomach is the sea of water and grain, the source of qi and blood.
It also states: The stomach has a capacity of one chi and five cun in diameter, five cun in width, and two chi and six cun in length; it is curved and can hold three dou and five sheng of water and grain.
Of this content, grain usually remains two dou, and water one dou and five sheng, keeping it full.
It further states: This meridian is abundant in qi and deficient in blood.
The *Nanjing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: The stomach weighs two jin and one liang.
Zhang Jiebin stated: The upper opening of the stomach is called the贲门 (Benmen, cardia); the essence of food and drink is transported upward from here to the spleen and lungs,
and distributed through the various meridians; the lower opening of the stomach, which is the upper opening of the small intestine, is called the幽门 (Youmen, pylorus) (see Figure 44).
Passage:
The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian originates at the side of the nose, intersecting at the root of the nose, adjacent to and constraining the meridian of Foot-Taiyang, descending along the lateral aspect of the nose, entering the upper teeth,
then emerging to encircle the lips around the mouth, descending to intersect with Chengjiang (CV24), then following the posterior mandible downwards, exiting at Daying (ST5), following Jiache (ST6), ascending to the anterior aspect of the ear,
passing through Kerenzhuren (GB4), following the hairline to the frontal skull; its branch descends from the anterior aspect of Daying to Renying (ST9), follows the throat, enters Quepen (ST12),
descends through the diaphragm, connects with the Stomach, and links with the Spleen; its main trunk descends from Quepen along the medial aspect of the breast, passes alongside the umbilicus, and enters the Qijie region;
another branch originates from the lower opening of the stomach, runs within the abdominal cavity, descends to meet the main trunk at the Qijie region, then descends through Biguan (ST31) to Fubu (ST32), down to the patella,
continues down the lateral aspect of the lower leg, reaches the dorsum of the foot, and enters the space between the second toe; another branch diverges three cun below Lianxu (ST34),
entering the lateral space of the second toe; another branch diverges from the dorsum of the foot, enters the space between the great toe and the second toe, and emerges at the tip of the toe (see Figure 45).
Passage:
The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian begins at the nose, descends along the lateral nose into the upper teeth, emerges to encircle the mouth and Chengjiang, passes through the area behind the jaw at Daying and Jiache,
ascends to the hairline before the ear to the frontal skull; a branch descends to Renying and the bottom of Quepen, passes through the diaphragm to enter the Stomach and link with the Spleen palace; the straight path descends from Quepen to the medial breast,
one branch follows the abdomen from Youmen, descending directly to meet at Qijie, then proceeds from Biguan to the knee patella, and together with the shin and foot toes on the inner side;
one branch descends to the knee and notes Sanli, exiting anteriorly to connect with the lateral space of the second toe; one branch diverges to the foot dorsum and toes, ending at the tip of the great toe.
Note: The Foot-Yangming meridian connects to the second toe next to the great toe (the lesser toe/second toe), not the middle toe (third toe); this must be a transcription error.
Annotation: [1] The meridian of the Foot-Yangming Stomach originates at the nose, meaning it intersects laterally at Yingxiang (LI20),
passing near Jingming (BL1) of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, then dividing to descend along the lateral nose,
initially intersecting with Chengqi (ST1), Sibai (ST2), and Juliao (ST3) of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian; from Juliao, it enters the upper teeth,
emerges to pass through Dicang (ST4) beside the mouth; it then circles the lower lip, intersects with Chengjiang (CV24) of the Ren Mai, and follows the posterior mandible,
re-intersecting with Daying (ST5) of its own meridian. From Daying, it follows Jiache (ST6), ascends to the anterior ear, passes through Kerenzhuren (GB4),
merges with the Shaoyang meridian, follows the hairline to Xuanlu (GB5) and Xiayan (GB7) on both sides of the frontal skull,
and re-intersects with Touwei (ST8) and Xiaguan (ST7) of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
[2] Its branch travels through Daying, proceeding anteriorly from Daying through Renying (ST9), Shuitu (ST10), and Qishe (ST11),
follows the throat to enter Quepen (ST12), descends through the diaphragm to belong to the Stomach and link with the Spleen, distributing to the zang-fu organs.
[3] The straight path proceeds directly from Quepen through Qihu (ST15), Fukuang (ST16), Wuyi (ST17), Yingchuang (ST18), Ruzhong (ST19), Rugen (ST18), etc.,
descending to the medial aspect of the breast at Burong (ST14); from Burong, it follows Chengman (ST15), Liangmen (ST21), Guanmen (ST22), Taiyi (ST23), Huaroumen (ST25), etc.,
descending alongside the umbilicus to Tianshu (ST25); from Tianshu, Wailing (ST26), Daju (ST27), Shuidao (ST28), Guilai (ST29), etc., it enters the Qijie,
which is the Qichong (ST30) acupoint.
[4] Its branch originates at the stomach opening, referring to the branch that belongs to the Stomach and links with the Spleen mentioned earlier, descending within the abdominal cavity,
reaching the Qijie to merge with the Qijie acupoint, where it meets the ascending Chong Mai; its downward path along this meridian involves the Pipan (SP13? Note: Text says Pipan but context implies ST31 Biguan or similar transition, text says "Splen Gate" likely typo for Biguan or referring to SP connection, but strictly translating text: Pipan) acupoint. *Correction based on standard anatomy in text*: The text mentions "Pipan" (Spleen Gate) but in the context of ST descent, it likely refers to the transition or a specific point description. However, sticking to translation: "Pipan acupoint".
[5] Reaching Fubu and descending below Fubu (ST32), it travels through Yinshi (ST33) and Liangqiu (ST34), descends to Dunbi (ST35) in the center of the patella,
follows Zusanli (ST36), Shangjuxu (ST37), Tiaokou (ST38), Xiajuxu (ST39), etc., descending along the lateral aspect of the tibia to Fenglong (ST40);
from Fenglong, it follows Jiaoxi (ST41), descends to the dorsum of the foot to Chongyang (ST42); from Chongyang, it travels through Xangu (ST43) and Neiting (ST44),
entering the lateral space of the second toe.
[6] Its main branch and divergent branches: one enters the lateral space of the second toe from Xiajuxu (ST39);
one diverges along the dorsum of the foot to enter Liding (ST45) between the great toe and the second toe, emerging at the tip, and intersecting with the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
