The *Duanju Fang* (Short Drama Formulas) states: Whenever the hands or feet are pricked in the eighth or ninth lunar months, if this leads to an infection by "evil lochia" (residual blood and turbid fluids after childbirth), the consequences can be fatal. The treatment method is as follows:
Take two or three fresh bamboo shoots or mulberry branches, heat them red-hot in fire to use as thermal applicators, crush and break them. Place the broken ends directly over the wound; when the heat dissipates, replace with a new one. After using three pieces, the wound should turn white and ulcerate. Then take Allii Macrostemon Bulbus (Xiebai, small-root garlic), pound it into a paste, wrap it in cotton cloth, place it in hot ashes until extremely hot, remove the cloth, and apply the warm bulb to the wound, wrapping it tightly with cloth. If the wound remains swollen, repeat the procedure. If the area has been exposed to cold water or suffers from swelling and pain due to evil lochia combined with wind-cold, take several he of salt, sprinkle it urgently onto the wound, moxa-burn it to drive the heat deep into the lesion, then insert animal tallow (La) into a bamboo tube, place the tube in hot ashes to melt the tallow, and pour the melted tallow into the wound. If salt and Xiebai are unavailable, tallow alone may be used.
It further states: A method for treating evil lochia wounds:

The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Various Diseases) states: Lacquer contains toxins. Some individuals have a congenital sensitivity to lacquer; merely seeing it can induce poisoning. Symptoms often begin with facial itching, followed by generalized itching in the chest, arms, and thighs. The face becomes swollen, and the area around the eyes turns slightly red. Scratching any itchy area results in raised erythematous streaks that fade and are replaced by tiny millet-seed-like pustules. In mild cases, symptoms present thus. In severe cases, sores appear all over the body, ranging in size from hemp seeds to dates or apricots, accompanied by suppuration and burning pain. Picking them provides slight relief or temporary healing, but new lesions quickly regenerate. Burning lacquer releases potent toxic vapors that cause acute and severe injury; however, some individuals possess natural tolerance and can boil lacquer all day without harm.
