Methods for treating latent summerheat syndrome.
Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, one qian) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, each one and a half qian) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, each one qian) Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, three qian) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, smooth, three qian).
Treating summerheat syncope syndrome. Also treats sudden evil invasion (Zhong'e).
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, two qian) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, three qian) Chao Zhimu (Fried Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, one qian) Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, five fen) Decoct in water and take orally. Alternatively, add Huashi (Talcum, three qian) and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, three fen); the treatment is the same.
Treating summerheat syncope with facial redness and thirst.
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, three qian) Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, two qian) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, one qian) Chixiaodou (Phaseoli Semen Rubrum, one qian) Shijueming (Haliotidis Shell, six qian, raw) Hupo (Amber, eight fen).
In cases of summerheat syncope, the condition is extremely critical. If medication cannot be administered immediately, administer Suheli Wan (Styrax Pill) dissolved in boiling water by force-feeding. Alternatively, rub Suheli Wan on the teeth to allow the aromatic qi to enter.
Absence of body fluids.
Pulse diagnosis: The pulse of those suffering from summerheat is deficient in all six positions. Injury to the Qi level results in a definitely deficient Right Cun (Radial position corresponding to Lung and Heart). Injury to the Blood level results in a definitely deficient Left Cun. If a Floating-Rapid pulse is seen, it indicates unsoothing Yang Qi. A Surging pulse at both Chi (Cubital) positions indicates deep-seated heat that is difficult to eliminate. A Surging pulse at the Right Guan (Middle position corresponding to Spleen and Stomach) raises questions about stagnation and accumulation. Yin pulses are auspicious; Yang pulses are difficult to dispel. If the Left Guan pulse is Wiry, who else but malaria could it be? Tight, Knife-edge, Deep, and Urgent pulses—where is there any life? These are death pulses; where will life reside? Pulse deficiency with bodily heat is recorded in ancient texts. One must further examine the root Qi; the Chi pulses should be relaxed. Relaxed means harmonious and slow, with the root standing alone. The pulse image resembles...
Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder) refers to the sudden chaos and turmoil of onset. Cheng Shi stated that there are Dry Huoluan and Wet Huoluan. Dry Huoluan has more deaths, while Wet Huoluan has fewer deaths.

Other than this, having treated dozens of illnesses over decades, I am most decisive regarding this syndrome, with no case failing to heal promptly. This is what Cheng Wuji referred to as Wet Huoluan. There is also Dry Huoluan, characterized by abdominal pain like twisting, desire to vomit but unable to do so, desire to defecate but unable to do so, thirst, cold limbs like ice, and cyanosis of the lips and fingernails. This is a sign of Wood excess and Earth failure.
The method dictates non-treatment. However, I often prescribe Sizni Tang (Four Reversal Decoction) and Chengqi Tang (Attacking the Qi Decoction) together. This enables those unable to vomit to vomit and those unable to defecate to defecate. Through vomiting and defecation, the disease momentum naturally alleviates. Subsequently, administer Huanglian Lizhong Tang (Coptis and Zingiberis Decoction for Regulating the Middle) to harmonize the middle Jiao (Spleen and Stomach). Many survive, few die. In cases of Wet Huoluan with simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain like twisting, cold limbs, sweating, anal dryness, and thirst, treat with my self-made Huanglian Hezhong Tang (Coptis Decoction for Harmonizing the Middle). For all Taiyang disease cases with simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea, if the pathogen is in the Upper Jiao, treat with Huanglian Xiexin Tang (Coptis Decoction for Draining the Heart). If the pathogen is in the Lower Jiao, treat with Huanglian Wuling San (Coptis and Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria). If the pathogen is in the Middle Jiao, treat with Lianfu Lizhong Tang (Coptis, Aconite, and Zingiberis Decoction for Regulating the Middle). However, for both Dry Huoluan and Wet Huoluan, despite severe oral dryness and thirst, one must avoid consuming raw, cold fruits, teas, or soups. Even touching the lips with these can lead to an incurable condition. Why? Because the Middle Earth (Spleen/Stomach) is already injured. Adding raw, cold drinks further damages True Yang and obstructs the pathogenic qi. How could there be any vitality? These are earnest words; do not consider them false and ignore them.
