Ge Hua (Kadsura Flower), Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit), Bai Dou Kou (Tsaoko Cardamom Fruit), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root), Chen Pi (Citrus Reticulata Peel, white pith removed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Ge Fen (each 0.5 fen), Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven, stir-fried), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), Gan Sheng Jiang (Dried Ginger), Qing Pi (Citrus Aurantium Peel, albedo removed, stir-fried), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome, each 0.1 fen).
This formula is indicated for internal injury caused by excessive consumption of alcohol and food.
The cold nature of Ge Hua (Kadsura Flower) can resolve the toxicity of drunkenness. The bland taste of Fu Ling (Poria) and Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome) can promote diuresis to drain dampness caused by alcohol. The acrid taste of Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit), Bai Dou Kou (Tsaoko Cardamom Fruit), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root), Qing Pi (Citrus Aurantium Peel), and Chen Pi (Citrus Reticulata Peel) can move qi and resolve stagnation of food and alcohol. Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) opens the stomach and stops vomiting; Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven) helps digest greasy and roasted foods. The sweet nature of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) serves to tonify the damaged stomach qi.
Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome), Ba Dou (Croton Seed, skin, membrane, and oil removed), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, equal parts).
Grind into fine powder and make pills. Take 0.6 fen per dose, adjusting until bowel movement occurs.
When food intake doubles and there is improper regulation of cold and heat, leading to severe abdominal pain that feels like death, this formula should be used urgently.
The spleen and stomach are nourished by food and drink, but also injured by them. Therefore, when food intake doubles, it obstructs the yin regions, causing the upper jiao (Upper Burner) to fail in dissemination and the lower wan (lower orifice of the stomach) to fail in unblocking, resulting in severe abdominal pain. The Classic states: "When ascending and descending cease, the qi of life stands isolated and in danger." This refers to such conditions. Using mild medicines would have a slow effect and no benefit to treatment; therefore, Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome) and Ba Dou (Croton Seed) are used.
Shao Yan (Calcined Salt, 4 he), Wen Tang (Warm Water, 2 sheng).
Mix evenly and drink, then induce vomiting by stimulating the throat with a finger.
When food intake doubles, causing fullness and distension in the chest and diaphragm, this method of inducing vomiting is appropriate.
The Classic states: "The source of yin lies in the five flavors. The five palaces of yin are injured by the five flavors." Thus, excessive eating inevitably leads to chest and diaphragmatic fullness. Rather than allowing the body to be harmed by distension, it is better to expel the pathogen through vomiting. Therefore, the salty taste of salt soup is used to soften hardness, combined with throat stimulation to induce vomiting.
When chefs prepare Suo Fen (vermicelli), Almond (Xing Ren) causes it to rot upon contact. In future cases of injury from vermicelli, it is advisable to add Almonds. This is recorded only in *Yi Yu*, and not mentioned in other books.
There are merchants who sell melons and fruits; once they encounter Glutinous Rice (Nuo Mi), the fruits invariably rot. In future cases of injury from melons and fruits, it is advisable to add Glutinous Rice.
