This formula is extremely effective for treating Qi exhaustion, chronic cough, and hemoptysis. In cases of Lung Abscess (Feiong, 肺痈), Wuweizi should be removed because when Lung Qi is obstructed leading to abscess formation, astringent herbs are contraindicated.

The symptoms recorded in the text indicate a syndrome of deficiency of both Yin and Yang, and "broken metal failing to sound" (a metaphor for loss of voice or weak cough due to Lung-Kidney Yin deficiency). There are no exterior syndromes present, and the patient suffers from spontaneous sweating due to weakness, further injuring Yuan Qi. Chaihu, Qinjiao, Banxia, and Shengjiang are acrid and dispersing herbs that would severely damage Yin fluids; I fear this would lead to critical danger and death.

This formula is overly complex and not worthy of emulation.

Wind is the Qi of Heaven, invading the human body most rapidly; when constrained, it transforms into heat, which indeed should be cleared and dispersed. However, cases where pathogenic factors penetrate deeply into the bone marrow are rare, one or two in ten thousand. Generally, bone-steaming fever (Gu Zheng, 骨蒸) is caused by Yin deficiency, not by external Wind residing in the bones.

Take before retiring to bed.
This formula emphasizes the Spleen and Stomach while simultaneously treating the Liver and Kidneys, demonstrating exquisite intent. However, the dosage of Shengma appears too heavy; reducing it by half would suffice to raise clear Yang and open the orifices.
