Treats excessive Heart Fire in the upper jiao, dryness and excess in the middle jiao, manifesting as irritability, thirst, red eyes, dizziness, oral ulcers, cracked lips, hematemesis, epistaxis, constipation of stool and urine, various wind syndromes causing convulsions and spasms, gastric heat leading to macules on the skin and mania; as well as pediatric acute fright syndrome and black depression of smallpox lesions (the above symptoms are all caused by fire pathogens affecting the upper and middle jiao).
Chaiqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) (4 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, soaked in wine), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (2 liang), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-baked until black), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried with wine), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (1 liang).
This is a formula for purging fire from the upper and middle jiao. When heat invades internally, it is treated with salty-cold substances, assisted by bitter-sweet ones. Therefore, Forsythiae Fructus, Scutellariae Radix, Lophatheri Herba, and Menthae Haplocalycis Herba are used to ascend and disperse.
The disease is located in the chest and diaphragm... [Text fragmentary] ... main pathology root, unblocking intestines, Chengqi [formula name reference] ... white medicine...

Treats all types of Liver and Gallbladder fire, restlessness of spirit, palpitations and convulsions, agitation and mania, dizziness and vertigo, tinnitus and deafness, stuffiness and obstruction in the chest and diaphragm, difficulty in swallowing, dryness and constipation of the intestines and stomach, pain in the hypochondrium radiating to the lower abdomen, cough resulting from Liver transferring heat to the Lung (Liver belongs to Wind-Wood, governs sinews, anger, and fright; thus convulsions, fright, and mania all belong to Liver Fire; the eyes are the orifice of the Liver, and the Gallbladder meridian connects to the ears. Excess fire in these two meridians causes dizziness and tinnitus; the Heart meridian passes through the throat and diaphragm, and the Kidney meridian penetrates the diaphragm and follows the throat. Deficiency of Water and excess of Fire cause dysfunction of the diaphragm and throat; the hypochondrium and lower abdomen are pathways of the Liver and Gallbladder meridians, hence the radiating pain. Cough can occur in any of the five zang and six fu organs, but must transmit to the Lung. When Liver pathogenic factors transfer, it is called Liver Cough); also treats night sweats (night sweats belong to heat; this formula shares the same principle as Danggui Liuhuang Tang).
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed with wine), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix, washed with wine), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-baked until black), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried, 1 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, soaked in wine), Qingdai (Indici Folium, water-flotation method), Lvxu (Aloe, 5 qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 2 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, 5 fen). Made into honey pills.
Take with Ginger Decoction.
This acts on the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and Hand-Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Liver Wood is the root of fire generation; when Liver Fire is excessive, fire from other meridians arises sequentially, causing diseases not limited to one aspect. Therefore, Gentianae Radix and Indici Folium are used to directly enter the home meridian and suppress the fire; while Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Gardeniae Fructus, and Phellodendri Cortex are used to pacify fire in the upper, middle, and lower jiao (Scutellariae Radix clears Lung Fire, Coptidis Rhizoma clears Heart Fire, Phellodendri Cortex clears Kidney Fire, Rhei Radix et Rhizoma clears Spleen and Stomach Fire, Gardeniae Fructus clears Sanjiao Fire); Aloe is extremely bitter and cold, has drying qi entering the Liver, and can guide other herbs into the Jueyin Meridian to first calm severe fire, after which fire in other meridians will gradually subside; since the other herbs are extremely bitter and cold, Angelicae Sinensis Radix is acrid and warm, enters the Jueyin Meridian, harmonizes blood and nourishes Yin, thus serving as the Sovereign herb; a small amount of Aucklandiae Radix and Moschus is added for their ability to move Qi and open orifices; however, they should not be lightly administered unless there is excess fire.
