[True Pearl Pill] Treats the Liver Meridian due to deficiency, with internal invasion of Wind pathogen. During sleep, the Hun (Ethereal Soul) scatters and fails to reside, presenting symptoms resembling palpitations and fright.
Zhenzhu Mu (Mother-of-Pearl Shell, 3 qian, ground) Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (each 1.5 liang) Suanzaoren (Ziziphus Jujuba Seed)
Baiziren (Biota Seed), Renshen (Ginseng Root) (each 1 liang) Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood)
Chenxiang (Aquilaria Wood), Longchi (Dragon Teeth) (each 0.5 liang) Huqing (Tiger Eyes) (a pair) Add Shexiang (Musk) (3 qian)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, form pills using honey, sized like Torreya seeds, coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar). Take 40-50 pills per dose, administered with Yinjin Bohe Tang (Silver and Mint Decoction), taken at midnight or before bedtime.

The above twelve herbs are chopped. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water, 3 slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), half a Wumei (Mume Fruit), decoct until reduced to 0.7 parts, strain, and take warm. Administer at any time.
In the Gui-Chou year of the Shaoxing era, while waiting for an official appointment in Siming, I encountered a scholar named Dong who suffered from restlessness of Shen (Spirit). During sleep, he dreamed of flying; although his body remained in bed, his Hun and Po seemed detached from his body, accompanied by frequent palpitations and nightmares, resulting in insomnia throughout the night. Multiple physicians failed to cure him. After examining him, I asked, "How do other doctors treat this condition?" Dong replied, "They all consider it a Heart disease." I said, "Based on the pulse, this is a pathogen invading the Liver Meridian, not a Heart disease. The Liver Meridian is deficient, allowing pathogenic qi to invade. The Liver stores the Hun. When the wandering Hun undergoes transformation, in healthy individuals, the Liver does not accept pathogens; during sleep, the Hun returns to the Liver, the Shen becomes tranquil, and sleep ensues. Now, because there is pathogen in the Liver, the Hun cannot return, causing the Hun to scatter as if leaving the body during sleep. The Liver governs anger, so slight anger exacerbates the condition." Dong joyfully said, "I have never heard this explanation before. Although I haven't taken medicine yet, I feel the heaviness has already left my body. I wish to request medicinal treatment." I said, "Hold onto this theory and discuss the treatment formula with other physicians for verification." Ten days later, he returned, stating that physicians had consulted ancient and modern medical texts but found no matching formulas. Therefore, I prescribed these two formulas for him. After one month of administration, the illness was completely resolved. In this formula, Zhenzhu Mu serves as the Jun (Emperor) herb, assisted by Longchi. Zhenzhu Mu enters the Liver Meridian most effectively, as Longchi shares the same nature as the Liver. Longchi and Huqing are currently commonly used as heart-calming agents, but they actually function to calm the Hun and stabilize the Po, respectively, corresponding to their elemental associations. The Azure Dragon of the East belongs to Wood, corresponds to the Liver, and stores the Hun; the White Tiger of the West belongs to Metal, corresponds to the Lung, and stores the Po. The Dragon is capable of change, hence the Hun wanders and is unstable; the Tiger is capable of stillness, hence the Po remains stationary and secure. I believe that for treating instability of the Po, Huqing is appropriate; for treating scattering of the Hun, Longchi is appropriate. All things possess inherent principles that remain constant; this depends on human understanding.
