Illustration of the Phoenix Spreading Its Wings Technique
This technique primarily serves to warm and tonify. The practitioner supports the infant's hands with both hands, placing them on the Zongjing (the central meridian on the inner aspect of the forearm). The four fingers (excluding thumbs) of both hands are spread apart on both sides below, while the two thumbs are positioned above at the Yin-Yang acupoints (acupoints located on the radial and ulnar sides of the base of the thumb), also spread apart on both sides. Then, using the two thumbs to pinch the Yin-Yang acupoints, shake outwardly twenty-four times, hold tightly for a moment. Next, use the side of the left thumb, index finger, and middle finger to grasp the infant's elbow, gently swing downward three or four times. Subsequently, use the left hand to support the infant's elbow and the right hand to support the back of the infant's hand, with the thumb pressing the Tiger's Mouth area, and rotate smoothly upward and outwardly twenty-four times.
Illustration of Pushing the Middle Finger Technique
This technique is primarily used to treat alternating chills and fever. The practitioner uses the left thumb and ring finger to grasp the infant's middle finger, supporting the back of the infant's middle finger with the middle and index fingers. Dip in herbal soup and push with the right thumb.
Illustration of Flying Through Meridians and Moving Qi Technique
This technique primarily serves to warm and tonify. The practitioner holds the infant's hand with the right hand, keeping the four fingers still. The four fingers of the left hand start from beside the Quchi point (LI11) of the infant, jumping alternately onto the Zongjing nine times. Then grasp the Yin-Yang acupoints of the infant, moving the right hand upward and outwardly, extending and retracting to transmit qi, slowly passing through the checkpoints.
Illustration of Heavenly Gate Entering the Tiger's Mouth Technique
This technique primarily serves to invigorate the spleen and promote digestion. With the infant's palm facing upward, dip in ginger and scallion soup, and push from the side of the Yin, Mao, and Chen gates (three sections near the tip of the index finger) to the root of the thumb.
Illustration of Tonifying Spleen Earth Technique
This technique primarily serves to invigorate and tonify spleen deficiency. The practitioner uses the left hand to flex and grasp the surface of the infant's thumb, pushing with the right hand dipped in ginger and scallion soup. Then straighten and grasp the surface of the infant's thumb, still pushing with the right hand dipped in ginger and scallion soup. These methods are used interchangeably, relying on the practitioner's flexible application.
Illustration of Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl Technique
This technique primarily serves to warm and tonify. The practitioner uses the right thumb, index, and middle fingers to pinch the Liver finger (index finger) and Lung finger (middle finger) of the infant. The left thumb, index, and middle fingers pinch the Yin-Yang acupoints of the infant, pinching upward repeatedly until reaching the Quchi point five times. For heat syndromes, pinch the Yin side heavily and the Yang side lightly; for cold syndromes, pinch the Yang side heavily and the Yin side lightly. Finally, pinch the Yin-Yang acupoints again, swaying the Liver finger and Lung finger eighteen or twenty-seven times.
