Note: These two formulas are agents for the Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) meridian. The former primarily targets the Right Kidney, while this one primarily targets the Left Kidney; hence the difference.
Buyang Tang (Tonify Yang Decoction): Treats conditions where Yang cannot overcome Yin, i.e., Yin excess and Yang deficiency, leading to obstruction of the nine orifices. It causes green-white nebulae (clouding) to appear on the cornea/sclera area, and stagnation within the Foot Taiyang (Bladder) and Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) meridians. Consequently, Qi from the Foot Jueyin (Liver) meridian cannot ascend to the eyes, causing internal obstruction by green-white nebulae. One should tonify the Yang Qi of the Liver at the "Jiuyuan" (Nine Origins) below the Foot Taiyang and Foot Shaoyin meridians, allowing it to surge upward toward Heaven. This requires first tonifying Yang, then clearing Fire from the Biao (superficial/head region) of the Foot Taiyang and Foot Taiyin meridians, subduing the Fire that has sunk into the Yang. This is the secondary treatment method. The *Neijing* states: "When Yin is excess and Yang is deficient, one should first tonify Yang, then tonify Yin." This is the correct therapeutic approach. Take Buyang Tang every morning when the stomach is empty of retained food; take Yiyin Wan (Nourish Yin Pill) before bed. If weather changes, severe cold/wind occurs, or due to labor/exertion, previous day's dietary irregularities, mental fatigue, or weak Qi, do not take these medicines. Wait until the body's Qi is balanced and weather is normal before taking them. This first tonifies Yang, allowing Yang Qi to rise and reach the extremities of the Liver meridian, clearing the orifices of the eyes.
