Li Dongyuan once said: "I once treated a man whose first son died of a red silk tumor (red silk hemangioma) at the age of one. His subsequent four sons all suffered the same fate. Why is this?" I replied, "This is due to latent fire in your kidneys, resulting in red filaments in your essence, commonly known as a fetal tumor. You may test your essence yourself." He did so and confirmed it. I then prescribed Zishen Wan (Nourishing Kidney Pill) for him and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) for his wife. They subsequently conceived and gave birth to a healthy child, and the previous condition did not recur.
If a snake enters a human orifice, immediately grasp it with your hand, cut off its tail with a knife, place pepper or other pungent substances inside the tail, bind it with cotton cloth, and the snake will exit on its own. Do not pull it forcibly.
A woman who consumed over twenty bowls of tea daily after childbirth developed cold patches all over her body after one month. When others pressed these cold areas with their fingers, the sensation of cold seemed to travel from the finger upwards to the heart. This persisted for two years without effect from various physicians. Using Bawu Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction) minus Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), plus Ju Hong (Tangerine Peel), and adding Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) and Zhuli (Bamboo Sap) equivalent to one wine cup, ten doses resulted in warmth returning to the body.
A seven-year-old boy would faint upon hearing thunder. A paste was prepared using Renshen (Ginseng Root), Dangguishen (Angelica Sinensis Root Heart), and Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), with a small amount of Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry). After consuming one jin (approx. 500g) of the paste, he remained unaffected by thunder.
A man experienced a sensation during eating as if an extra throat slanted beneath the diaphragm, reaching directly into the left hypochondrium causing distension and stuffiness. Palpation produced a gurgling sound. Ten pills of Kongxian Dan (Phlegm-Draining Pill) were administered. Shortly after, heat arose in the distended area, followed by a loud belch, and two sheng (approx. 1 liter) of phlegm-fluids were purged. Upon subsequent meals, food descended normally into the stomach.
A woman experienced spurting hemorrhage from the Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupoint spontaneously, nearly dying. She was unconscious after compressing the orifice and binding it with cloth strips. She recovered after being灌ed (force-fed) with a decoction of one liang (approx. 30-50g) of Renshen (Ginseng Root).
A man had neck swelling continuous with the head, which felt hard upon palpation. One dose of Loulu Tang (Euphorbiae Humifusae Decoction) induced itching, and the swelling dissipated instantly.
While harvesting rice in the field, a man suddenly experienced intense itching penetrating to the bone marrow. Nine qian (approx. 30-40g) of edible salt were dissolved in three bowls of water. Each bowl was drunk and then vomited up via gagging. Three cycles of drinking and vomiting cured the itching. (This was caused by phlegm-qi.)
A child suffered from generalized pruritus, attributed to 'fire timing' (excessive internal heat). Crushed fresh ginger wrapped in cloth was rubbed on the skin, stopping the itch. (This is a method of treating according to the disease's nature/counter-treatment.)
Placental prolapse (Pan Chang Chan) refers to the uterus protruding before the delivery of the fetus, failing to retract after birth. Half a cup of vinegar mixed with seven parts cold water is sprayed suddenly onto the mother's face without her knowledge. Spraying three times causes complete retraction of the uterus. This is a lifting method. (It is feared that this addresses upward counterflow of qi.)
