Gongsun (PC4) connects with the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), treating diseases of the Stomach, Heart, and Chest; Neiguan (PC6) connects with the Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel), its therapeutic scope being generally consistent with Gongsun.
Linqi (GB41) belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian and links with the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel); disorders of the Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel) manifest at the outer canthus of the eye and require treatment with Waiguan (TE5).
Houxi (SI3) belongs to the Du Mai (Governor Vessel) and connects with the back and neck; Shenmai (BL62) belongs to the Qiao Mai (Heel Vessels, specifically Yang Qiao), and their meridians also interconnect.
Lieque (LU7) belongs to the Lung Meridian and runs through the Lung system; Zhaohai (KI6) belongs to the Yin Qiao Mai and treats diseases of the Diaphragm and Throat.
Wang Shizhi stated in his writings: Gongsun corresponds to 'Qian' (referencing specific time-acupuncture or pairing theories); for Yi and Gui (Liver and Kidney), the Kun Palace point is Shenmai.
On Geng days, Waiguan belongs to the Zhen Trigram; on Bing days, selecting Neiguan from the Gen direction is convenient.
On Wu days, Linqi corresponds to the Kan Trigram; Houxi moves to the Xun Palace position on Xin days.
On Ding days, one should needle Zhaohai in the Dui Palace; on Ji days, Lieque corresponds to the Li Trigram's front.
In Spring and Summer, needling should be deep first and shallow later; in Autumn and Winter, it should be shallow first and deep later.
For any acupoint, press gently according to the patient's respiration; when using Ying-Sui (Following and Opposing) techniques, seeking Neiguan during inhalation has specific implications.
To tonify deficiency and drain excess, Gongsun is primary, Lieque is secondary, and Zhaohai requires deep insertion.
Linqi pairs with Waiguan above and below; Houxi and Shenmai utilize Gold Needles.
Deep-then-shallow follows the Yin number method: three deep insertions followed by two shallow ones constitute the Yin method.
Shallow-then-deep follows the Yang number method: two shallow insertions followed by three deep ones constitute the Yang method.
Linqi and Gongsun treat intestinal diseases; spinal, head, waist, and back diseases are treated by attacking with Shenmai.
Zhaohai treats throat and lower abdominal diseases; Neiguan treats heart and chest pain.
Houxi treats the forehead, upper body, shoulders, and back; needling Lieque allows the pulse qi to flow freely.
Rapid pressing and slow lifting raise Yin Qi; rapid lifting and slow pressing descend Yang Qi.
Attacking Yang or capturing Yin both use multiples of six; skilled practitioners achieve miraculous effects.
Zusanli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44), Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4), have the function of cutting off the disease path.
Weizhong (BL40) pairs with Chengshan (BL57), extending downwards to Kunlun (BL60).
Huantiao (GB30) and Yanglingquan (GB34), Tongli (HT5) and Lieque (LU7) are often used together.
Understand the 'Dan' (Supporting/Holistic) method to apply Dan, and understand the 'Jie' (Cutting/Local) method to apply Jie.
Keep these methods in mind constantly, but do not share them with those unworthy.
The 365 acupoints of the body do not exceed this set of eleven points.
This method is known by few, opening the golden lock completely.
It demonstrates miraculous efficacy in curing diseases, like hot water pouring on snow.
Students who carefully deduce and seek will find this divine skill inexhaustible.
At Yin hour, Lung Qi is vigorous; at Mao hour, Large Intestine Meridian Qi flourishes; at Chen hour, Stomach Meridian Qi flows; at Si hour, Spleen Meridian Qi fills; at Wu hour, Heart Meridian Qi is strong; at Wei hour, Small Intestine Meridian Qi connects.
At Shen hour, Bladder Meridian Qi flows; at You hour, Kidney Meridian Qi fills; at Xu hour, Pericardium Meridian Qi connects; at Hai hour, Sanjiao Meridian Qi flows; at Zi hour, Gallbladder Meridian Qi is vigorous; at Chou hour, Liver Meridian Qi connects.
Scholar Xu observed a woman suffering from Heat Entering the Blood Chamber. Other physicians failed to recognize the condition and administered blood-nourishing herbs, resulting in Jie Xiong (Chest Binding Syndrome) after several days.
Scholar Xu said: "Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) is now too late and cannot be used; instead, Qimen (LR14) should be needled."
I stated that I am unable to needle and requested a skilled practitioner to perform the needling. Following his advice, the patient recovered.
