Form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills each time, on an empty stomach with salt water or wine. This formula was obtained by Zhao Jindao from the Governor of Guangzhou. Long-term use is miraculous. He wrote a poem describing its efficacy: "Ten years of hardship traveling borders, the work of creation is indeed not false. Seizing the scenery to bring back to the hall, Qing'e does not laugh at white whiskers."
Fu Jiao Fa (Method of Taking Sichuan Pepper): Chen Ye composed a song: "An elder from Mount Qingcheng learned the secret of taking pepper. Over ninety years old, his face does not resemble that of an octogenarian. Bowing respectfully, he asked for the method, happily explaining it to me. Three jin of clean Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper), six liang of clean Jieyan (Salt). Mix salt slowly over low fire, boil thoroughly, roll in chrysanthemum powder. Start with fifteen pills, morning and evening without fail. Gradually increase monthly up to two hundred. Salt wine or salt water, drink as you wish. After half a year, feel slight blockage in chest/diaphragm. Reduce ten pills daily back to fifteen. When no longer obstructed, resume previous dosage. Ensure Qi steams throughout, otherwise previous efforts are lost. No dietary restrictions on vegetables/fruits. Effects seen in one year, complexion becomes radiant. Eyes bright, ears sharp, beard black, hair dark. Tonifies Kidney, lightens waist, secures Qi, benefits essence/blood. Pepper and salt are warm, Chrysanthemum clears heat. Can start at forty, do not neglect. Decades later, merit equals creation. Resists aging, prolongs life, unknown how many years. If desires are forgotten, effect is extraordinary. I wish peace for the world, hence this urgent song."
Shujiao (Pick stems and closed pods, weigh three jin clean, mix with six liang clean salt, soak in boiling water for five cun overnight, slow-boil in silver/ceramic vessel until only half a cup of pepper juice remains. Sweep ground clean, lay clean paper, pour pepper on paper, cover with new basin, seal with yellow earth. Overnight, take out, place in basin. Mix with six liang dried chrysanthemum powder (small yellow flowers, thick green leaves, purple stems, sweet aroma, named Ganju, true if edible as soup, dried and powdered). Method: First month, fifteen pills morning/evening; second month twenty; third month thirty; up to two hundred. After half a year, if chest feels blocked, reduce ten pills monthly back to fifteen. When unobstructed, resume previous dosage. Must continue to allow Qi steam. If missed one day, all effort is wasted. Can start at forty; if started at forty, face remains like forty till old age. This is the verification.)
Laoya Wuzi Fang (Teeth-Firming Hair-Blackening Formula): In Shaoding Renchen year, Zhao Dashigu Fu visited Xuyi. Nahe Xingsheng Tong Gong Mingmai traveled between Jinling. I met Nahe at Zhao Jian's office. He was over seventy, with black beard and hair. Asked how, he said: "Our state has a Xingtai, appointed to Fan Zhen, beard/hair white. Returned to court years later, beard/hair black. People marveled. He narrated meeting a formula that firms teeth and blacks hair, effective over time, but did not give proportions. Later in Yisi year, met Zhang Jingli Chaoping, then learned proportions:"
Ingredients: Hanliancao (Ecliptae Herba, five liang, two types: purple flower used in furnace fire. This is white flower, seed head looks like lotus pod, hence Hanlian. Grind into powder, make pills the size of弹子 (bullet) using vinegar and thin flour paste, shape into cakes, bake or sun-dry until dry. Use small-mouthed porcelain jar, seal with paper-mud mixture, dry. Place medicine cakes inside, burn in sugar ash fire until smoke appears. When smoke is faint, medicine retains potency; remove from fire immediately, seal jar mouth with yellow mud. Next day, take out medicine, grind a few pills into powder as needed. Use morning/evening to brush teeth, rinse with warm water shortly after. Long-term use yields great results.

Add four sheng non-grain wine, boil until paste-like. Mix with previous powder, pound until firm. Divide each liang into ten pills. Chew one pill finely each time, swallow with wine before bed. First, chop Dihuang, stir-fry with two he of butter (Su You) and one yi of honey until fragrant and cooked, store separately. When porridge is nearly ready, add and cook until done. Ji Geng (Shepherd's Purse Soup - Commonly called Dongfeng Cai. Dialect mispronounced as Gongdie Cai, meaning fit to serve elders)
Su Dongpo wrote to Bi Shisan: "Today eating Shepherd's Purse is extremely delicious, a natural treasure. Though not sweet among the five flavors, it has beauty beyond taste. Method: Take one to two sheng clean Shepherd's Purse, add three ge rinsing rice, two sheng cold water, two liang thumb-sized ginger. Put in pot. Pour one clam-shell of raw oil on top of soup surface. Do not disturb, or it generates fishy-oil smell, inedible. Do not add salt/vinegar. If you know this taste, all delicacies from land and sea become tiresome. Heaven created this for hermits' sustenance, pass it on, do not ignore. Covering soup helps it cook faster; very soft is best."
Bencao says: "Shepherd's Purse harmonizes Liver Qi, brightens eyes. At night, blood returns to Liver, the storage organ. Not sleeping past midnight causes yellow/dry complexion and scattered thoughts next morning because blood doesn't return. If Liver Qi harmonizes, blood vessels flow, fluids moisten. Dongpo had a poem: 'Often circling wheat fields seeking wild Shepherd's Purse, forcing myself to cook mountain soup in monk quarters.' Lu Fangweng also had a poem: 'Add little salt/vinegar to enhance taste, add little ginger/cinnamon to boost spirit. Stove and bowl sustain poor life, how could I ever reveal the secret?'"

Take shoots, mushrooms, cabbage hearts, and mandarin fish, boil in clear water. Use ginger, radish natural juice, and wine, equal parts, add little salt, sprinkle gradually until set. Cook until very soft, then eat. Dare not enjoy alone, request to follow this method to share with elders."
Elderly who prefer vegetarianism and不忍 (cannot bear) harming creatures, serving soy/water/home vegetables/herbs, prepared correctly, greatly benefits them. When shoots of Gouju Xiongchu etc. are tender, harvest and eat. Boil, steam, stir-fry, or pickle. All use local perilla salty bean paste with salt to drink, very good. Turnip whole is superb. Those not cutting off Five Pungents: Spring/Autumn tender leeks, four seasons exploring Scallion are very beneficial. Mung beans, Perilla, Black Sesame Stems should be stored, all move Qi downward. Other bean paste/sauce types are indispensable in diet, must store all. Eating meat doesn't harm heart, but buying with money is better than killing. First, strictly avoid killing. Meat must be fresh; if slightest odor, do not keep. Rotten organs damage Qi, must be cautious.
Ruxiang San (Frankincense Powder): Treats dysentery and Qi harmony, stops toxic blood diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Ingredients: Ruxiang (Olibanum, a little), Hezi Pi (Terminaliae Chebulae Pericarpium, one qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, five qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, five fen).

Ingredients: Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Fresh, half a liang), Dacong (Allii Fistulosi Bulb, one stem), Yan (Salt, one qian), Chi (Fermented Soybean, thirty grains).
