Pulse
Following beating, striking, or falling injuries, if excessive blood loss has occurred, the pulse should be deficient and fine. If instead an urgent, rapid, large, and frequent pulse is obtained, it indicates that wind-heat pathogens have taken advantage of the deficiency; this condition is fatal. In cases of falling from a height with internal blood stasis causing abdominal distension and fullness, a firm and strong pulse indicates survival, whereas a small and weak pulse indicates death.
Diseases
"Zhe Shang" (fractures and dislocations) refers to physical injury. It may result from knife or axe wounds, falling from dangerous heights, or body impacts, damaging tendons, bones, skin, and flesh, all of which can cause unceasing bleeding. Alternatively, blood stasis may stagnate and accumulate within the Zang-Fu organs, knotting without dispersing. If not removed promptly, there is a risk of stasis invading the abdomen and attacking the heart.
Therapeutic Methods
The treatment method should be determined by the severity of the injury. If bleeding does not stop, external application pastes are suitable, along with internal decoctions for harmonizing and dissipating. For blood accumulating internally, purgative methods should be used to remove it, followed by regulation. The key lies in promoting Qi circulation and activating blood, relieving pain, and harmonizing the meridians to prevent Qi and blood stasis.
Generally, for beating, striking, falling, or knife/axe injuries where the skin is intact but internal damage exists, blood stasis must inevitably be present. One should first expel the stasis, then harmonize the blood and relieve pain. If muscles are ruptured with excessive blood loss, the focus should be on regulating Qi and nourishing blood, primarily by tonifying the Spleen and Stomach.
If abdominal pain occurs, it is due to blood stasis. Taoren Chengqi Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction to Order the Chest), added with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Honghua (Carthami Flos), and Sumu (Sappan Lignum), decocted with child's urine and wine, is indicated.
