After taking the above prescription for eight doses consecutively, the patient's appetite increased significantly, complexion became lustrous, and spirit recovered. Subsequently, several doses of Sini Danggui Buxue Decoction (Cinnamon Twig, Aconite Root, and Astragalus Root Decoction) and Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Tang (Astragalus and Cinnamon Twig Five-Substance Decoction) were administered for conditioning and follow-up care. The patient was discharged as cured after one month of hospitalization. Upon meeting again in 1964, it was learned that the patient had been in good health for over ten years.
Breast Abscess (Case 1)
(Breast Mastitis) Yin XX, female, 25 years old, from Kunming. In the spring of 1969, six days postpartum, she visited a certain hospital due to "acute mastitis" in the right breast. After treatment with penicillin and other injections, the condition did not improve. She then sought treatment from a TCM surgeon, who diagnosed it as caused by heat-toxin and immediately prescribed heat-clearing and detoxifying agents, along with an external application of heat-clearing and swelling-reducing ointment. After five doses and more than ten days of treatment, chills and fever persisted, and the redness, swelling, and pain in the right breast worsened daily. She then consulted me. The symptoms presented included fever with aversion to cold, morning body temperature of 37.4°C rising to around 39°C in the afternoon. Headache, generalized body ache, redness, swelling, burning sensation, and hardness of the right breast, blocked lactation, pain radiating to the axilla, and incessant groaning. Loss of appetite during the day and inability to sleep at night, mental fatigue, drowsiness without spirit. The pulse was deep, fine, and tight; the tongue body was pale with a bluish tint, and the coating was white, thick, and greasy. This case was attributed to deficiency of both Qi and Blood postpartum, combined with contraction of wind-cold pathogenic factors, leading to obstruction of the meridians and stagnation of Qi and Blood. Furthermore, the mistaken use of bitter-cold heat-clearing agents damaged the healthy Qi and exacerbated the pathogen, thereby aggravating the breast abscess. The treatment principle should be to support the healthy Qi and expel pathogens, warm the meridians and dispel cold, unblock collaterals, and promote lactation. The formula used was Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang (Ephedra, Prepared Aconite Root, and Asarum Decoction) with modifications.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 30g, Ephedra Stem (Mahuang) 9g, Asarum (Xixin) 5g, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) 15g, Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) 9g, Vervain Herb (Tongcao) 6g, Immortelle Flower (Wangbuliuxing) 9g, Honey-fried Cyperus Rhizome (Zhixiangfu) 9g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 15g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 6g.
Follow-up visit the next day. After taking the above prescription twice yesterday, covered warmly and lying down, slight sweating occurred all over the body after a short while. She slept soundly at night. By this morning, fever subsided, body temperature normalized, and she felt whole-body relief. Head and body pains had resolved. Redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the right breast reduced by half. She could consume some thin porridge and milk. The state of painful groaning had decreased. The pulse was no longer tight but deep, fine, and gentle. The bluish tint on the tongue body had faded to pale red; the coating was thin and white, though still slightly greasy at the root. Although the condition showed improvement, residual pathogens remained, and Qi and Blood were not yet replenished. The treatment continued with supporting Yang and warming transformation. The formula used was Fuling Guizhi Tang (Poria and Cinnamon Twig Decoction) with modifications.
Poria (Fuling) 15g, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) 15g, Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) 9g, Vervain Herb (Tongcao) 6g, Asarum (Xixin) 3g, Honey-fried Cyperus Rhizome (Zhixiangfu) 9g, Coix Seed (Yiren) 15g, Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 45g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 15g.
After two doses, the redness, swelling, and induration of the right breast completely dissipated, lactation resumed, and sleep and appetite improved. However, Qi and Blood were still deficient. Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus and Middle-Warming Decoction) was used for follow-up conditioning. After four doses, all symptoms resolved. Half a month later, milk production gradually increased, allowing normal breastfeeding.
Breast Abscess (Case 2)
(Breast Mastitis)
Xie XX, female, 24 years old, from Jiangsu, residing at Guanghua Street, Kunming. Six or seven days postpartum, she caught a chill while sitting up to breastfeed at night. The next day, she felt unwell with chills, fever, headache, body pain, local induration, swelling, and pain in the left breast. She immediately went to a provincial hospital where she took modified Yinqiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder) and Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction) for several doses. Fever subsided, but chills persisted. The induration and redness/swelling in the left breast did not dissipate but enlarged, and pain intensified. One week later, the wound ulcerated, discharging a small amount of yellow pus and clear bloody fluid. Western surgical drainage and anti-inflammatory treatment were applied, and the wound gradually closed after half a month.
However, the breast lump did not dissipate; it remained red, swollen, and painful, with blocked lactation and poor sleep/appetite. Low-grade fever occurred daily in the afternoon, accompanied by shivering chills. The condition lasted a month without resolution. On a certain day in 1963, she consulted me. The symptoms were as described previously, but the patient appeared pale, mentally fatigued, with a deep, fine, and weak pulse. The tongue body had a bluish tint, and the coating was white, thick, and greasy. This was due to cold pathogens failing to be dispersed, becoming depressed and blocking the meridians and blood collaterals. The prolonged course consumed Qi and Blood, leaving internal deficiency of healthy Qi, which lacked the strength to resist and expel pathogens.
Although the ulcer formed and opened, the root of the pus was not fully removed. Although the wound closed, the carbuncle toxin was not entirely eliminated. This is what is meant by "nourishing the carbuncle and leaving trouble behind." The treatment principle should be to warm and unblock interior Yang, drain pus, reduce swelling, dissipate nodules, and promote lactation. The formula used was Baitong Tang (White Tongue-Decoction) with modifications.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 150g, Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 15g, Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) 10g, Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) 15g, Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) 10g, Honeysuckle Thorn (Zaoci) 9g, Red Peony Root (Chishao) 10g, Vervain Herb (Tongcao) 6g, Asarum (Xixin) 5g, Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 12g, Scallion White (Congbai) 3 stalks.
After two doses, chills and low-grade fever resolved, body temperature returned to normal, and redness, swelling, and induration in the left breast gradually subsided. However, burning and stabbing pain reappeared below the right nipple, with local redness and slight protrusion. This indicated that Yang-warming herbs were promoting circulation, Qi and Blood were recovering, blood vessels were unblocking, and healthy Qi was resisting pathogens, showing a trend of pushing pus outwards. The pulse was deep, fine, and more gentle and forceful than before. The bluish tint on the tongue receded, but greasy coating remained in the center. The previous formula was continued with added Honey-fried Cyperus Rhizome (Zhixiangfu) 9g, taken for two doses. The necrotic flesh had matured into pus, and the local skin became translucent and red. After three doses, the abscess spontaneously ruptured, discharging more than half a cup of yellow pus. Pain instantly decreased, and redness/swelling subsided. Then, Sini Danggui Buxue Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Aconite Root, and Astragalus Root Decoction) modified with Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Hang Shao (White Peony Root), Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi), and Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) was administered for four doses. Pus cleared, swelling disappeared, the wound healed, and the disease was cured.
Deficient Fire Toothache
Sun XX, male, 38 years old, cadre at a factory. Initially suffering from a cold due to chill exposure, he took one dose of Yinqiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder). That night, toothache suddenly erupted, radiating to the forehead, continuous and unbearable, keeping him awake all night. The next day, gums also swelled and hurt, teeth felt loose, gums appeared full making teeth look long, preventing biting. Cold and hot drinks entering the mouth and touching the crowns intensified the pain.
Recently, he could not eat or drink, groaning frequently. His pulse was deficient, rapid, and forceless. The tip of the tongue was red, coating thin, white, and moist, slightly yellow at the root. The lower right gum was red and swollen, with no caries observed. This was caused by exterior cold mistakenly treated with cooling agents. Cold pathogens did not disperse but stagnated in the collaterals, damaging interior Yang. Ministerial fire failed to submerge, causing deficient fire to float upward. Treatment should focus on dispersing cold stagnation in collaterals, guiding fire back to its source, and anchoring Yang in the Kidney. The formula used was Qianyang Fengsui Dan (Hidden Yang and Sealing Marrow Pill) with modifications.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 45g, Honey-fried Turtle Shell (Zhiguiban) 9g, Cinnamon Bark (Rougui) 9g (powdered, mixed with water), Amomum Fruit (Sharen) 9g, Asarum (Xixin) 5g, Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai) 9g, Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi) 9g, Hornet Nest (Lufengfang) 6g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 12g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 9g.
After one decoction and intake, toothache lessened, and he could sleep at night. After two more doses, pain gradually ceased. After finishing two doses, gum swelling and pain completely resolved.
Gum Bleeding
Wang XX, male, 32 years old, suffered from long-term bleeding between gums, broken dental beds, atrophied gingiva, loose teeth, accompanied by pain and itching. Repeated use of Yin-nourishing and fire-descending agents was ineffective. My diagnosis revealed a deep, weak, forceless pulse; pale tongue body; slippery white coating; and lack of desire for water.
This was due to deficiency of Spleen and Kidney Qi, lacking the strength to control blood within the vessels. Teeth are the surplus of bone, governed by the Kidney; Kidney Qi deficiency leads to dry, loose teeth. The Spleen governs muscles and opens into the mouth; Spleen Qi deficiency fails to nourish muscles, leading to broken and atrophied gingiva. Qi is Yang; Blood is Yin.
When Yang Qi is deficient, Yin cannot submerge and floats upward. When Yin Blood loses its hold, it wanders outside the blood vessels.
The treatment principle should be to support Yang to suppress Yin, consolidate Qi to grasp Blood, so that when Yin and Yang harmonize, blood returns to the vessels without overflowing. The proposed formula was Qianyang Fengsui Dan (Hidden Yang and Sealing Marrow Pill) with Black Ginger (Heijiang) and Cinnamon Bark (Rougui).
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 60g, West Amomum Fruit (Xisharen) 20g (powdered), Roasted Black Ginger (Pao Heijiang) 26g, Top Cinnamon Bark (Shang Rougui) 10g (powdered, mixed with water), Charred Phellodendron Bark (Jiao Huangbai) 6g, Honey-fried Licorice Root (Zhigancao) 10g, Turtle Shell (Guiban) 13g (roasted until crisp, crushed).
One dose yielded slight effect; three doses stopped bleeding completely; after four doses, pain and itching vanished. After ten consecutive doses, gingival tissue grew plump, and all symptoms resolved.
Note: Aconite and Cinnamon Bark warm the True Fire of the Mingmen (Gate of Life) in the Lower Jiao, supporting the Minor Fire to generate Qi. Amomum anchors Qi into the Kidney. Turtle Shell and Phellodendron gather Yin to submerge Yang. Black Ginger and Honey-fried Licorice warm the middle and benefit the Spleen. Hidden Fire and Root interact, guiding blood back to the vessels. Thus, this formula cures the disease. I have encountered such cases repeatedly with success. However, if the pulse is rapid with desire for cold drinks, indicating Yin deficiency with heat, this formula must be contraindicated.
Epistaxis (Case 1)
Li XX, 14 years old, had a history of epistaxis without other distress, so no medication was used for conditioning. One day, exposed to exogenous pathogens, he experienced fever, chills, headache, body pain, and desire for cold drinks. Pulse was floating, fine, and rapid. He was given one dose of Maxing Shigan Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Seed, Gypsum, and Licorice Decoction) and recovered abruptly. Another day, going out in rainy, cold weather, he caught another cold with fever, chills, dizziness, headache, limb soreness, no thirst, but a deep, fine, and weak pulse. He was given Mahuang Xixin Fuzi Tang (Ephedra, Asarum, and Aconite Root Decoction) plus Guijian (Cinnamon Tip) and Fresh Ginger for one dose. Sweating occurred, and fever subsided. The next morning, sudden persistent epistaxis occurred. Blocking the nostrils caused blood to overflow from the mouth, appearing unstoppable. Dizziness, abdominal pain, pale and lusterless complexion, physical weakness, and mental fatigue. Follow-up pulse was slow, weak, and delayed. This was due to chronic deficiency of Qi and Blood, with Yin and Yang failing to guard each other. Blood deficiency leads to reckless wandering; Qi deficiency lacks strength to control blood, easily causing extravasation.
Although exterior pathogens were resolved, Qi and Blood remained deficient. The main formula was Sini Danggui Buxue Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Aconite Root, and Astragalus Root Decoction).
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 50g, Roasted Black Ginger (Pao Heijiang) 15g, Amomum Fruit (Sharen) 6g, Jujube (Dazao) 3 pieces (charred black retaining nature).
One dose stopped epistaxis immediately; two doses led to abrupt recovery. That night, straining during defecation, he suddenly gasped, ground his teeth, fainted nearly to death, lips turned blue, complexion grey-white, pulse fine, slow, and forceless. Supported to lie down, he stabilized slightly. Then, Sini Tang (Four Reversal Decoction) plus Top Cinnamon Bark was administered for four doses, resulting in cure.
Epistaxis (Case 2)
Qin XX, male, 64 years old, from Guangxi, residing on Xinzhazhou Road, Shanghai. Qin had a constitution prone to phlegm-dampness and suffered from phlegm-fluid retention cough for many years. Yesterday, due to coughing with急促 breathing, sudden persistent epistaxis occurred. Blocking nostrils caused blood to be vomited from the mouth. Injection of hemostatic drugs failed to stop bleeding. He fainted once, reviving only after being fed a small amount of brandy. On July 11, 1933, he consulted me. Patient appeared pallid, persistent epistaxis, blood traces at mouth corners, profuse cold sweat, lethargic without spirit, weak breath resembling imminent death. Pulse was hollow, deficient, seemingly scattering, rootless upon heavy pressure, stopping every two or three beats, presenting a Mai Xiang (Death Pulse) image. Opening the mouth to inspect the tongue, the body was pale with bluish tint and little blood color. This condition was largely due to Qi deficiency failing to control blood, and Yang deficiency failing to secure Yin, causing Yin Blood to scatter outside the vessels. Compounded by coughing and Qi movement tearing blood collaterals, epistaxis resulted. Observing pulse and symptoms, the condition was critical, with Yang Qi threatening to escape with Yin Blood. Urgent treatment required supporting Yang and gathering/anchoring. Only if bleeding and sweating stopped would there be hope for life. Shenfu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Root Decoction) with modifications was used for emergency rescue.
Korean Ginseng (Gaolishen) 10g, Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 30g, Roasted Black Ginger (Pao Heijiang) 6g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 3g, Jujube (Dazao) 2 pieces (charred black retaining nature).
One dose showed effect: epistaxis reduced, spirit improved. Two doses stopped both bleeding and sweating. The next day, another dose was taken. Follow-up on the 13th: consciousness cleared, no more epistaxis. Lips and tongue turned red. Pulse was slow, weak, but more spirited, though stopping intermittently every five or six beats. Following the original formula, dosage increased, adding Kouqi (Astragalus) to support Yang and consolidate Qi.
Korean Ginseng (Gaolishen) 10g, Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 60g, Roasted Black Ginger (Pao Heijiang) 15g, Kouqi (Astragalus) 24g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 10g, Jujube (Dazao) 2 pieces (charred black retaining nature).
Two doses taken consecutively: diet and spirit recovered, face/lips/tongue红润, pulse slow and harmonious with spirit. Still had cough, sputum containing small amounts of black blood, due to extravasated stasis being expectorated with phlegm. Original formula removed Ginseng and Astragalus, added Pinellia Tuber (Faxia) 10g, Poria (Fuling) 15g, Amomum Fruit (Sharen) 3g. Three doses led to cure. No recurrence of epistaxis for many years thereafter.
Red, Swollen, and Painful Eyes
Zhang XX, male, 50 years old. Initially due to wind-cold exterior contraction, experienced fever, chills, headache, body pain, and general discomfort. The next day, eyes turned red, swollen, painful, photophobic, with excessive discharge. Pulse was deep, fine, and tight; tongue body pale, coating thin, white, and moist. This was caused by wind-cold attacking the exterior, obstructing meridians and blood collaterals, leading to stagnation and blockage. Treatment focused on warming meridians, releasing exterior, dispelling cold, and unblocking collaterals. Formula: Modified Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang (Ephedra, Prepared Aconite Root, and Asarum Decoction).
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 30g, Ephedra Stem (Mahuang) 6g, Asarum (Xixin) 5g, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) 9g, Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) 9g, Tangerine Network (Jueluo) 5g, Tribulus Fruit (Shayuanjili) 9g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 6g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 3 slices.
Decocted and taken once, covered warmly and lying down, slight sweating occurred. After one dose, exterior syndrome resolved, eye redness, swelling, and pain subsided. However, Yang Spirit was still deficient, with dizziness, soft limbs, and slight distension in eyes. Continued with Qi-tonifying, collateral-unblocking, and vision-improving agents.
Kouqi (Astragalus) 24g, Asarum (Xixin) 3g, Tangerine Network (Jueluo) 3g, Tribulus Fruit (Shayuanjili) 6g, Cicada Slough (Chantui) 5g, Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome (Gaoben) 9g, Privet Fruit (Nvzhenzi) 9g, Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit (Yizhiren) 9g, Leonurus Fruit (Chongweizi) 6g, Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 9g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 6g.
Two doses led to cure.
Pediatric Red, Swollen, and Painful Eyes
In December 1923, Zhu XX's second son, born over ten days prior, suddenly developed red and swollen eyes, vomiting after breastfeeding, green stools, and incessant crying at night. Tongue white, fingerprint bluish. Since the mother had a constitution of deficiency-cold, the infant had insufficient congenital endowment, weak Spleen Yang, failure of transportation and transformation, inability to control water, interior cold combined with Liver Qi rebellion insulting the Spleen, Yuan Yang failing to submerge, attaching to Liver and ascending to impact the eyes. This was caused by floating deficient Yang. The treatment principle prioritized restoring Yang and gathering/anchoring. Proposed Fuzi Gancao Tang (Aconite Root and Licorice Root Decoction) with Fresh Ginger.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 10g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 3g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 2 small slices.
One dose stopped crying; two doses gradually reduced eye swelling, stool turned yellow. Four doses led to cure.
Note: Common practice sees eye redness and swelling and immediately attributes it to Fire, which is not entirely accurate. Ophthalmic diseases are numerous, but essentially can be judged by exterior contraction and interior injury methods. Regardless of exterior or interior causes, if redness, swelling, pain, visual obstruction, and photophobia are present, conditions vary in deficiency/excess and cold/heat. Treatment must be clearly differentiated according to Six Meridian and Eight Principle theories. One cannot rigidly adhere to a single method hoping for accidental success. I am not a specialist in eye diseases, but the essential principles of treatment are interconnected with classical teachings.
Yin Carbuncle and Nodule Swelling
Mother of Zhu XX, 49 years old, residing at No. 342 Zhuji Street, Kunming. In August 1952, a nodule the size of an egg appeared on the right neck. Swollen, hard, and painful, skin color normal. Swallowing saliva caused pain radiating to ear and throat, difficulty eating, mental fatigue, and weakness. Visited a certain hospital, diagnosed with inflammatory suppuration requiring surgical incision and drainage, otherwise waiting for natural rupture.
Fearful of surgical pain, she came to my clinic. Pulse and tongue indicated Yang deficiency and Yin cold. Diagnosed as Yin Carbuncle and Tubercle. Prescribed warming, transforming, and unblocking agents.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 100g, Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 30g, Asarum (Xixin) 6g, Patrinia Root (Baijiang) 50g, Coix Seed (Yiren) 50g, Vervain Herb (Tongcao) 6g, Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) 10g, Pangolin Scale (Jiazhu) 10g, Corydalis Rhizome (Yanhu) 12g, Honey-fried Cyperus Rhizome (Zhixiangfu) 12g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 12g. After three doses, nodule swelling dissipated.
Dan Sha Syndrome with Multiple Pyoderma
Dai XX, from Xuanwei County, Yunnan Province, residing at Zhuji Street, Kunming. Had a only son named Yanling, aged three. In March 1937, developed Dan Sha (Scarlet Fever-like rash). Initially fever, cough, red eyes with tears, sore throat, loss of appetite, flushed face, and faint spots on neck/chest, dense with reddish skin, dull color, similar on chest/back. Rapid breathing, lethargic without spirit, floating-tight pulse, reddish-dark fingerprint, thin white slightly rough coating. Prescribed Guige Tang (Kudzu and Cinnamon Twig Decoction) with slight addition of Mint (Bohe) and Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) for one dose to support exterior and vent rash.
Kudzu Root (Gegen) 12g, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) 12g, Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) 6g, Mint (Bohe) 3g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 10g, Small Jujube (Xiaozao) 5 pieces, Licorice Root (Gancao) 6g.
After intake, rash emerged gradually but color remained dull. This was due to innate weak constitution, relatively deficient healthy Qi, and inability to push outward. Continued with Guigan Jiangzao Mading Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon, Licorice, Ginger, Jujube, Ephedra, Asarum, and Aconite Root Decoction) to support Yang and vent exterior.
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 30g, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) 12g, Ephedra Root Hair (Maharong) 5g, Northern Asarum (Beixin) 3g, Small Jujube (Xiaozao) 6 pieces, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 10g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 6g.
After one dose, rash emerged. Two doses later, dense patches of rash covered the body, color turned vibrant red, white coating disappeared, tongue red and delicate. This indicated rash toxin exiting outward. Continued with Guizhi Jia Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction plus Aconite Root) plus Astragalus. After intake, rash turned grey, pulse calmed, body cooled, and cured.
After rash subsided, peeling skin like membranes appeared all over, limbs peeled like snake slough.
Not long after, sudden hard swelling/nodules appeared under ears, followed by similar swelling in both armpits, then hard masses in groin creases, gradually growing bowl-sized, skin not red, painful on pressure. No fever, cough with profuse sputum, white slippery coating, no thirst. This was Yin Carbuncle, not comparable to heat-toxin sores. Heat-clearing bitter-cold detoxifying agents were contraindicated. Warming Yang and transforming was appropriate. Once pus matured, drainage and flesh-regeneration could lead to cure. Family invited Western doctors for surgery, draining only clear bloody pus-water, slightly reducing pain/swelling. Before wound closed, sudden hard mass appeared under buttocks, bowl-shaped, similar to before, and another mass in popliteal fossa. Child's physique and spirit deteriorated, yellowish-dull complexion, pale lips/tongue, white slippery coating. Due to recurrent masses and multiple surgeries/drainages, constitution extremely weak, deemed difficult to treat. Changed several doctors, all declined due to severe condition and only child status. Later consulted me again. Symptoms as described: healthy Qi insufficient, unable to generate flesh and push out toxin. Pus results from necrotic flesh/blood. Prolonged non-healing consumes Qi and Blood. Surgical drainage treats the branch, not the root. Only supporting Yang and assisting healthy Qi, filling interior Qi, can pyoderma be eradicated. Insisted on large doses of warm/hot formulas. Used Sini Tang (Four Reversal Decoction) with modifications:
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 60g, Roasted Ginger (Paojiang) 12g, Kouqi (Astragalus) 15g, Patrinia Root (Baijiang) 15g, Coix Seed (Yiren) 15g, Licorice Root (Gancao) 10g, Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) 10g.
Three doses taken consecutively: swollen/hard areas gradually turned red and suppurated, surface skin translucent. Light surgical incision performed externally. Upon ripening, skin broke, gushing out bloody, viscous, foul-smelling pus. Continued with Sini Tang, Qifu Tang (Astragalus and Aconite Root Decoction), and Yanghe Tang (Brightening Society Decoction) and other warming/stabilizing agents for dozens of doses. Finally achieved flesh regeneration, wound closure, and no recurrence of pyoderma.
Sini Tang (Four Reversal Decoction)
Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 60g, Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 10g, Honey-fried Licorice Root (Zhigancao) 10g.
Qifu Tang (Astragalus and Aconite Root Decoction)
Kouqi (Astragalus) 30g, Prepared Aconite Root (Fupian) 60g.
Yanghe Tang (Brightening Society Decoction)
