When this wind syndrome first begins, there is swelling on one side below the ear, or swelling on both sides, extending to the submandibular region with pain and swelling. The body experiences alternating chills and fever. This is caused by wind-heat attacking upwards. Externally apply Dansu Wan (Gall Suet Pill), ground with hot wine for application, three times daily. Avoid exposure to wind; otherwise, the swelling will worsen. Alternatively, grind Shancigu (Fritillaria Thunbergii Bulb) mixed with sour vinegar for external application. Internally, administer Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Unblocking the Supreme) for one or two doses, followed by Lianqiao Xiaodu Yin (Forsythia Decoction for Detoxification). Administer phlegm-resolving medicine four times daily to ensure rapid resolution. If neglected for a long time, it may develop into "Lou Sai" (Cheek Fistula). In mild cases, it perforates from the side; in severe cases, it perforates centrally, exposing the trachea, often leading to untreatable conditions. (Bingzhang notes: For this condition, Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Gegen (Pueraria Root), and Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) should ultimately be used with caution.)
In this wind syndrome, the lips are red and swollen, resembling a burning sensation, accompanied by tidal fever and restlessness. First, wash the area with Xiaofeng Huoxue Liangji Tang (Wind-Dispersing, Blood-Invigorating, and Muscle-Cooling Decoction). When yellow pustules appear, puncture them with a needle; the exudate will likely collect on the lips. If the back of the neck and face also become red, internally administer Lianqiao Xiaodu Yin (Forsythia Decoction for Detoxification) or Dafengfang San (Great Wind-Dispersing Powder). Additionally, applying blood from a black dog to the affected area yields miraculous results. (Bingzhang notes: Although the pathology involves wind, phlegm, heat, and toxicity, warming, ascending, and dispersing methods are still appropriate, but they should not be overused.)
This wind syndrome manifests as sudden blood blisters inside the mouth and throat, obstructing breathing and swallowing, creating a sensation similar to vomiting. Puncture the blisters to release a small amount of blood for slight relief. After scabbing, if throat pain persists, use Zhenhou Mo (True Throat Powder) mixed with aged vinegar and child's urine for gargling. Saliva and phlegm in the mouth should be spat out and not swallowed. If the toxic blood from the gargle is accidentally swallowed, it will cause unceasing heart pain or transform into a "blood snake," wandering through the zang-fu organs and penetrating the heart. Treat with Lianqiao Yin (Forsythia Drink) or Fangfeng Xiaodu San (Saposhnikovia Detoxifying Powder). If symptoms persist, mix honey and vinegar, heat until warm, and swallow to expel the toxin. If still ineffective, take a clump of women's hair, burn it dry on the ground to reduce fire qi, and take it with yellow wine for recovery. If the blood blisters in the mouth do not cause significant distension or obstruction and the patient does not wish to spit them out, do not puncture them; simply observe dietary restrictions. (Bingzhang notes: This condition requires cooling and dispersing methods; acrid-warm ascending and dispersing herbs are contraindicated.)
Feie Feng (Flying Goose Wind), also known as Feiyang Feng (Flying Poplar Wind) or Feisi Feng (Flying Silk Wind). The symptoms include pain as if choked by a bone, pain in the chest/epigastrium, dry mouth, and inability to swallow. It is mostly caused by excessive food intake leading to accumulated toxicity. Treat with Lianqiao Yin (Forsythia Drink) added with radish juice, along with Jinbo Wan (Gold Foil Pills) and Fangfeng Xiaodu Yin (Saposhnikovia Detoxifying Drink). Blowing Zhenhou Mo (True Throat Powder) into the throat will lead to recovery.
