There are two types of symptoms: Red Throat Wind and White Throat Wind. The pulse should not be deep and hidden (Chen Fu). For Red Throat Wind, use Qingfen (Calomel), but do not use Xionghuang (Realgar); for White Throat Wind, use Xionghuang (Realgar), but do not use Qingfen (Calomel). The prescriptions are listed below.
Xionghuang (2 fen) Qingfen (5 li) Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 1 qian) Ruxiang (Frankincense, 7 fen) Moyao (Myrrh, 7 fen) Hanshuishi (Halloysitum Rubrum, 1 qian) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian) Pengsha (Borax, 2 qian) Xuexie (Draconis Sanguis, 5 fen) Dameipian (Camphora, 3 fen) Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1 qian) Zhenzhu (Concha Margaritifera, 3 fen) Shexiang (Moschus, 3 fen)
Dashui Feng (Great Water Wind), also known as Bengsha Feng, is characterized by pain in the interdental spaces, foul-smelling decay, and bleeding. Apply the following medicine to the affected area.
Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 1 liang) Baijian (Alumen, 4 qian) Danjian (Chalcanthite, 3 qian) Bimazi Rou (Ricini Semen, 1 liang)
The preparation method for these four ingredients is as follows: Use a porcelain mortar. First, place Baijian (Alumen) in the mortar and melt it over a stove fire until it bubbles. Next, add Danjian (Chalcanthite) and wait for it to dissolve. Then, add Badou Ren (Croton Seed) and Bimazi Rou (Ricinus Seed). Wait until oil is exuded and smoke rises. Cover with three or five sheets of paper wetted with water, repeating this process five to seven times. When the surrounding papers dry, cover them on the ground and leave them exposed to the open air for three to five nights to remove the "fire toxicity." Collect and store for use. To treat, form Yanmei Rou (Salted Plum Flesh) into pills the size of Sophora seeds. Wrap cotton thread around a bamboo stick, hold a pill between the threads, dip it in vinegar and a small amount of the medicinal powder, and apply it to the lesion. Healing occurs when saliva flows out. Copper and iron vessels must be avoided during preparation. (Note by Bingzhang: This medicine is potent; excessive application causes inflammation and swelling. It must absolutely not be used for deficiency-fire patterns, and must be used cautiously for excess-fire patterns, or in reduced doses. Otherwise, it may cause harm.)
The aforementioned conditions either clarify their location and shape or record acupuncture treatment methods. Besides these, there are others not yet explained in detail; one example is given to illustrate the rest. Students should examine carefully during clinical practice.
Note by Guang: Longzui Feng (Dragon Mouth Wind) is a variant of Yukou Feng (Fish Mouth Wind). Those occurring on the upper lip are called Luzui Feng (Donkey Mouth Wind). Those occurring at the higher part of the gum are called Souya Feng (Search Tooth Wind, also known as Ya Feng). Those occurring at the lower part of the gum are called Yaying Feng (Tooth Abscess Wind). Dashui Feng results from blood stasis, dampness, wind, and fire in the Yangming Stomach Meridian, leading to loose teeth and dental caries. In severe cases, it transforms into Gucao Feng (Bone Trench Wind) or Lanhou Feng (Rotting Throat Wind, also known as Yanchuang Feng/Throat Ulcer Wind), which has red and white variants. Suohou Feng (Lock Throat Wind) is Chanhou Feng (Entangling Throat Wind). Lousai Feng (Leaking Cheek Wind) is Chuanhan Feng (Piercing Jaw Wind). Guoya Feng (Wrapping Tooth Wind) is Jiaojia Feng (Corner Frame Wind). Dankou Feng (Single Mouth Wind) is Danyankou (Single Swallow Mouth). Fengye Feng (Maple Leaf Wind) is Yulin Feng (Fish Scale Wind). Renshi Feng (Prune Food Wind) is Duoshi Feng (Snatching Food Wind). Waisuo Feng (Outer Lock Wind) is Yanjing Feng (Covering Neck Wind). Leitou Feng (Thunder Head Wind) is Luoli Feng (Scrofula Wind). Erying Feng (Ear Abscess Wind) is Feizhuzi Feng (Fat Node Wind). Anzhong Feng (Dark Middle Wind) is Luojia Feng (Fallen Frame Wind). Some conditions share the same name but differ in syndrome, or have different names but similar pronunciations.
