论曰凡人目中泪孔属肝，白睛属肺，赤脉属心，四 属脾，瞳仁属肾，盖目者五脏六腑
，皆相连属，若风热毒瓦斯，攻搏脏腑，壅滞经络，悉致目疾，其候不一，要当审其疾之所由
起，不可拘于肝也。
治五脏风热气壅，眼干涩痛赤。犀角汤方

以文武火煎半日，次下莲子汁，同煎汁尽，膏成滤去滓，澄清收入通油瓶内，每夜临卧，以
小铁匙，挑一钱许，涂顶上，细细用铁匙摩之，令硝入毛孔中，即脑中清凉，轻者不六七度
，重者摩至半剂，隔二五夜用一次，每摩须至三千余偏，兼理肾虚、眼暗，五脏毒风上冲入
脑，脑脂流下为内障，及眼暗障膜睛斜，无不效者，亦能生发，八月九月取莲汁。
治肾脏风，上攻眼目。四生散方
白附子（下注脚生疮用黑附子） 沙苑蒺藜 黄 （锉） 羌活（去芦头各等分）
上四味。皆生捣散，每服二钱匕，盐酒调下，空腹，猪肾中煨服尤善，沈括为河北察访
时，病赤目四十余日，昼夜痛楚，郎官丘革云，曾耳中痒，即是肾脏风，有四生散。只二三
服，初一服，目反大痛，再服即愈。
论述说：凡是人眼中的泪孔归属于肝，白睛（眼白部分）归属于肺，赤脉（眼内血丝）归属于心，四白（眼睑部位）归属于脾，瞳仁归属于肾。大概眼睛与五脏六腑都相互连接关联，如果风热毒气侵袭，攻冲搏结脏腑，壅滞经络，都会导致眼部疾病，其症状表现不一，关键在于应当审察疾病产生的原因，不能拘泥于只从肝脏论治。
治疗五脏风热气机壅盛，导致眼睛干涩、疼痛、发红。犀角汤方

青蒿花（三月三日采集阴干）
以上一味药。捣碎过罗成散剂，每次服用三钱匕，空腹时用井华水（清晨第一次打的井水）调服，长期服用可延年益寿、明目，甚至能在夜间阅读细小的文字。
治疗肝热，导致眼睛干涩、昏痛。车前子汤方

川芎 玉竹（各一两半）
以上九味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣温服，在饭后临睡前服用。
治疗肝经风热，导致眼睛红赤干涩，异物感疼痛难以睁开。槟榔汤方

桂枝（去粗皮） 防风（去叉刺，各半两）
以上七味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，空腹时早晚温服。
治疗肝心风热导致视力模糊、眼红。菥蓂子丸方
菥蓂子（一两半） 兔肝（一具切细炙烤） 细辛（去苗叶） 蔓荆实 车前子 羚羊角（镑片）
防风（去叉刺） 黄连（去须根） 黄芩（去黑心） 决明子（炒制，各一两）
以上十味药。捣碎过罗成粉末，用炼蜜调和制成丸剂，如梧桐子大小，每次服用三十丸，饭后用浆水送服。

治疗上焦壅热，各种眼部疾病。如圣散方
桂枝（去粗皮） 郁金（各半两） 马牙硝（二两） 甘草（一分）
以上四味药。捣碎过罗成散剂，每次服用一钱匕，临睡前用新汲水调服。服药完毕后去掉枕头躺卧片刻，让药力运行到眼中，感到疼痛流泪为止，十岁小儿服用半钱匕，五岁以下服用一字量。
治疗心膈气痰烦躁，寒热头痛，眼睛红痛昏暗。秦艽汤方

地骨皮（一两半） 甘菊花 升麻 黄连（去须根） 防风（去叉刺） 木通（锉碎） 玉竹 大
黄（锉碎炒制） 甘草（炙制锉碎） 蕤仁（去皮，各一两）
以上十味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，饭后临睡前温服。
治疗心肺风热，导致眼睛干涩红痛。人参汤方
人参 茺蔚子 细辛（去苗叶） 桔梗（炒制） 防风（去叉刺） 黄芩（去黑心） 大黄
（锉碎炒制，各一两） 赤茯苓（去黑皮，半两）
以上八味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，饭后临睡前温服。
治疗脾胃热毒，导致眼睛生障翳。犀角汤方
犀角（镑片） 芦根（锉碎） 大黄（锉碎炒制） 麦门冬（去心焙干，各一两半） 甘草（炙制，一两）

以上六味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，加入竹叶七片，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，加入芒硝一钱匕，生地黄汁半合，再次煎煮三五沸，饭后临睡前温服。
治疗脾肺热邪熏蒸，导致眼睛红痒、胬肉翳障。芦根汤方
芦根（锉碎） 木通（锉碎，各一两半） 山栀子仁 桔梗（炒制） 黄芩（去黑心） 甘草（炙制，各一两）
以上六味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，加入生地黄汁半合，再煎煮两三沸，饭后临睡前温服。
治疗肝肺实热，导致眼睛生白翳。羚羊角汤方

以上六味药。粗捣筛过，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至七分量，滤去药渣，加入芒硝一钱匕，空腹及临睡前温服。
治疗五脏风热导致眼睛红赤，并在黑睛上生成黄翳，隐涩疼痛。犀角饮方

以上八味药。切碎如麻豆大小，每次服用五钱匕，用水一盏半，煎煮至八分量，滤去药渣，加入芒硝末半钱匕。再次煎煮令其沸腾，饭后温服。
治疗肝肺热毒攻冲眼部，白睛肿起。羚羊角汤方

以上十四味药。除油和酥汁外，粗捣筛过，用绵布包裹，先在干净的锅中，放入酥和油两种辅料，然后放入诸药，用文武火煎煮半天，接着放入莲子汁，同煎至汁液尽，膏成后滤去药渣，澄清收入通油的瓶中。每晚临睡前，用小铁匙挑取约一钱许，涂抹在头顶，细细用铁匙按摩，使硝石进入毛孔中，即感觉脑中清凉，轻者不超过六七次，重者按摩至半剂用量，隔两三个夜晚使用一次，每次按摩需达到三千余遍，兼治肾虚、眼暗，五脏毒风上冲入脑，脑脂流下形成内障，以及眼暗障膜睛斜，无不有效，也能促进头发生长，八月九月采取莲子汁。
治疗肾脏风邪，上攻眼目。四生散方

以上四味药。皆生捣成散剂，每次服用二钱匕，用盐酒调服，空腹服用，在猪肾中煨熟服用尤其好，沈括担任河北察访时，患赤眼四十多天，昼夜痛苦，郎官丘革说，曾经耳朵痒，就是肾脏风，有四生散。只服二三剂，第一服时眼睛反而剧痛，第二服后即痊愈。
Commentary states: In the human eye, the tear ducts belong to the Liver (Gan), the white of the eye (Bai Jing) belongs to the Lung (Fei), the red vessels (Chi Mai) belong to the Heart (Xin), the four whites (Si Bai, referring to the eyelids) belong to the Spleen (Pi), and the pupil (Tong Ren) belongs to the Kidney (Shen). Generally, the eyes are interconnected with the Zang-Fu organs of the five viscera and six bowels. If wind-heat toxic qi attacks and combats the Zang-Fu, causing stagnation in the meridians and collaterals, it will result in various eye diseases. The symptoms are diverse; one must carefully examine the origin of the disease and cannot rigidly adhere to treating only from the perspective of the Liver.
Treatment for wind-heat qi stagnation in the five viscera, causing dryness, astringency, pain, and redness of the eyes. Xijiao Tang (Rhinoceros Horn Decoction):
Xi Jiao (Rhinoceros Horn, sliced), Mu Tong (Akebia Caulis, crushed), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, de-bristled), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Qing Xin Zi (Pharbitidis Semen), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, crushed and stir-fried), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, each 1 liang), Shan Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus seed, 3 fen), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus, pith removed, bran-fried, 0.5 liang).
The above ten ingredients. Coarsely crush and sieve. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 7 leaves of Zhu Ye (Bambusa Leaves), decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan. Remove dregs, add Ma Ya Xiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 qian bi). When warm, take after meals before retiring.
Treatment for accumulated heat in the five viscera causing blurred vision. Mengling Wan (Dream Spirit Pill):
Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, coarse ones de-rhizome), Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Calcitum), Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha, cleaned and scraped), Yang Zi Gan (Ovis Hepat, seven pieces, skin and membrane removed, cut and dried), Rui Ren (Pruni Armeniacae Semen, peeled and ground, 0.5 liang).
The above five ingredients. Pound and sift into powder. Mix with millet porridge to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills before retiring with clear tea.
Treatment for accumulated heat in the five viscera causing dry, astringent eyes difficult to open. Qingjin San (Green Gold Powder):
Qing Hao Hua (Artemisiae Annuae Flos, harvested on the third day of the third lunar month, shade-dried).
The above one ingredient. Pound and sift into powder. Take 3 qian bi per dose, mix with Jing Hua Shui (well water drawn at dawn) on an empty stomach. Long-term use promotes longevity and brightens the eyes, allowing reading fine print at night.
Treatment for Liver heat causing dry, astringent, blurred, and painful eyes. Cheqianzi Tang (Plantago Seed Decoction):

The above four ingredients. Pound and sift into powder. Take 1 qian bi per dose, mix with Xin Ji Shui (freshly drawn water) before retiring. After taking the medicine, lie down without a pillow for a short time to allow the medicine to reach the eyes. Stop when pain and tearing occur. Sheng Ma You (Raw Sesame Oil, 2 sheng), Su (Butyrum), Zeng Qing (Azurite, ground, each 1 liang), Da Qing (Isatidis Folium), Zhi Zi Ye (Gardeniae Folium), Chang Li Shi (Magnitae Os), Wei Ruo (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Piao Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), Wu Lan (Isatidis Radix),
(each 1.5 liang), Huai Zi (Stemonae Semen, 1 liang 1 fen), Dan Zhu Ye (Bambusa Leaves, one handful), Kong Qing (Azurite, ground, 2 liang), Yan Hua (Halitum, 3 liang), Lian Zi Zhi (Nelumbinis Plumula Juice, 1 sheng).
The above fourteen ingredients. Except for the oil and butter juices, coarsely crush and sieve. Wrap in cotton cloth. First, put the butter and oil into a clean pot, then add the herbs. Decoct over mild fire for half a day. Then add the lotus seed juice and continue decocting until the liquid is exhausted. Filter the ointment to remove dregs, clarify, and store in an oil-tight bottle. Every night before retiring, take about 1 qian with a small iron spoon, apply to the top of the head, and massage gently with the iron spoon to allow the salt to enter the pores. This brings coolness to the brain. Mild cases require no more than six or seven applications; severe cases require massaging up to half a dose. Use once every two or five nights. Each massage should cover over 3,000 spots. It also treats Kidney deficiency, dim vision, wind-toxin of the five viscera rushing into the brain, brain fat flowing down causing internal cataracts, dim vision, nebula, and strabismus, with no ineffective cases. It also promotes hair growth. Harvest lotus juice in August and September.
Treatment for Kidney wind attacking the eyes. Si Sheng San (Four Raw Ingredients Powder):
Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, note: use Hei Fu Zi/Black Aconite for foot sores), Sha Yuan Ji Li (Astragali Complanati Semen), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, crushed), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, de-radicle, equal parts).
The above four ingredients. All raw-pounded into powder. Take 2 qian bi per dose, mixed with salt wine. Take on an empty stomach; roasting in a pig kidney is especially effective. When Shen Kuo served as Inspector of Hebei, he suffered from red eyes for over forty days, with day and night pain. Official Qiu Ge said that ear itching indicates Kidney wind, which can be treated with Si Sheng San. After just two or three doses, the first dose caused increased eye pain, but the second dose cured it.
