Discussion states: Pediatric slow convulsion (Xiao'er Man Jing Feng) is a type of epilepsy originating from the Yin aspect. It arises from insufficient endowment during fetal development, leading to weak Heart Qi (Heart energy). External wind pathogens invade the Fu and Zang organs. Upon onset, there are spasms of the hands and feet, shaking of the head and eyes, locked jaw, a trance-like state resembling drunkenness, periodic发作 and remission, and irregular spasms like tidal waves; this is called Yin Epilepsy (Yin Xian). Treatment involves external moxibustion and internal herbal decoctions. Adapting treatment flexibly according to the condition qualifies one as a superior physician. If symptoms include shallow breathing, gaping mouth like a fish, sweating, and urinary incontinence, these are considered untreatable.
For pediatric slow convulsion with body heat, sudden vomiting and regurgitation, frequent crying at night, diarrhea or constipation evolving into slow convulsion, or developing into malnutrition syndrome (Gan Ji), to stabilize spasms, reduce phlegm, calm the Heart, and treat Gan disease, use Ru Sheng Qing Jin Wan formula.
Borneolum Syntheticum (Long Nao, 1 qian) Fragrant Ink (Xiang Mo, 1.5 qian) Quisqualis Fructus (Shi Jun Zi, 2 pieces, wrapped in flour and slow-roasted until cooked) Calomelas (Ni Fen) Moschus (She Xiang, each 1 fen) Triticum Aestivum Farina (Bai Mian)
The above nine ingredients are ground together into a fine powder, mixed with well water (Jing Hua Shui) to form pills the size of Euryale Seed (Qian Shi). Take one pill per dose. For slow convulsion, dissolve in cold Mentha Haplocalyx Decoction (Bo He Shui). The patient falls asleep after ingestion; upon waking, phlegm is expectorated and expelled via stool, leading to immediate recovery. Administer two or three more doses subsequently. For mild convulsions or acute convulsions, take half a pill.
For pediatric slow convulsion with deficiency and fatigue, and difficult phlegm discharge, use Qiang Huo Wan formula.
Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qiang Huo, 1 liang) Bombyx Batryticatus (Bai Jiang Can, half liang, stir-fried; these two are ground into powder) Sulfur (Liu Huang) Hydrargyrum (Shui Yin, each 1 fen; these two are reacted to form "sand" and then ground)
The above four ingredients are ground together into a fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of pea seeds. For children aged four to five, take two pills per dose; for children under three, take one pill. Dissolve in a decoction of Glehniae Radix (Jin Yin Hua), Schizonepetae Spica (Jing Jie), and Mentha Haplocalyx (Bo He).
For slow convulsion, use Hu Po Wan formula.
Amber (Hu Po) Rhinocerotis Cornu Powder (Xi Jiao Mo, each 1 qian) Margarita Powder (Zhen Zhu Mo) Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Tian Nan Xing, soaked in wine and stir-fried with bran, each 2 qian) Bovis Calculus (Niu Huang) Borneolum Syntheticum (Long Nao, ground) Moschus (She Xiang)
The above nine ingredients are crushed and ground into a fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of Euryale Seed. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Chrysanthemi Flos Decoction (Ju Hua Tang).
For pediatric slow convulsion, use Hui Hun Jian formula.
Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Tian Nan Xing, one piece weighing 3 qian: burn a pit in the ground until red-hot, splash vinegar, place Tian Nan Xing inside, cover tightly with a bowl to prevent air leakage, remove skin and umbilicus, take 2 qian) Typhonii Rhizoma (Bai Fu Zi, three pieces, raw) Elaphe (Wu She, 4 cun long, soaked in wine, skin and bones removed, roasted) Scolopendra (Wu Gong, one piece, roasted in wine) Tribulus Fruit (Ji Gang Zi, 30 pieces) Scorpio (Gan Xie) Moschus (She Xiang, each 1 qian)
The above fifteen ingredients are crushed and ground into a uniform fine powder, processed with Petroleum Ether (Shi Nao You) into an ointment/paste, and formed into pills the size of pea seeds. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Mentha Haplocalyx Decoction.
For pediatric slow convulsion, use Tian Nan Xing Jian Wan formula.
Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Tian Nan Xing, 1 liang, finely cut, boiled with 2 cups of water over low heat until reduced to half a cup, strained and concentrated into paste) Typhonii Rhizoma (Bai Fu Zi, half liang, processed) Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tian Ma, 1 liang)
The above four ingredients: grind the three ingredients other than Tian Nan Xing into powder, mix with the Tian Nan Xing paste to form pills the size of mung beans. For children aged three to five, take two pills per dose, taken with Mentha Haplocalyx Decoction. For children aged five to six, take three pills, twice daily. Dosage should be adjusted according to the child's size; time of administration is not fixed.
