[Diagram of the Year Wuzi]
Shaoyin Junhuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Si Tian (Heavenly Command), Yangming Zaojin (Dryness Metal) governs the Zai Quan (Earthly Command), and the Central Yun is Tai Zheng Huoyun (Excessive Fire Movement). The year's fire is excessive, and its qi transformation operates ahead of the natural timing. When the excessive nature coincides with the Heavenly transformation, it is called "Tian Fu" (Heavenly符), resulting in a relatively balanced qi state. This year of balanced fire is named "Sheng Ming Zhi Ji" (The Era of Ascending Brilliance). Its upright yang governs, its virtue spreads universally, and the five transformations are balanced. Its qi is high, its nature is swift, its function is like burning and scorching, its transformation is luxuriant and茂密 (flourishing), its governance is bright and shining, its climate is hot and sultry, its command is heat, its category is fire, it corresponds to summer, its grain is wheat, its fruit is apricot, its vessel is pulse, its insect is feathered, its animal is horse, its color is red, its taste is bitter, its object is pulse-like, its note is Zhi, and its number is seven. Corresponding to humans, its zang organ is the Heart, it governs the tongue, it nourishes blood, and its disease presents as spasms and convulsions (Chi Zhong). This is the transformation of the year's Yun.
Regarding the qi of Heaven and Earth: Heat transformation governs Si Tian, Soft transformation is on the left interstice, and Moving transformation is on the right interstice. Therefore, the qi disseminated by Heavenly governance is clear; Dryness (Xin) transformation governs Zai Quan, Storage transformation is on the left interstice, and the Si Qi Danhua (Cinnabar Fire Transformation) is on the right interstice. Thus, the Earthly qi is austere and its command is sharp. Cold and heat contend, heat adds to dryness, clouds race to the Rain Mansion, Humidity transformation proceeds, and timely rain descends. Metal and Fire combine their virtues, corresponding above to Yinghuo (Mars/Fire Star) and Taibai (Venus/Metal Star). Their grains are red and white. The heat transformation number is seven, and the clearing transformation number is nine; this is the degree of correct transformation. Feathered creatures are quiet, shelled creatures breed; this is suitable for the year's organisms. Hairy creatures diminish, damp toxins do not arise, because Earthly qi restrains them. Water, fire, cold, and heat hold at the Qi intersection, where diseases begin. Heat diseases arise from above, clearing diseases arise from below, cold and heat invade and contend in the middle. People suffer from cough and wheezing, hematemesis, hematochezia, nasal congestion, sneezing, red eyes, and skin sores. Cold jue enters the stomach, causing heart pain, lower back pain, abdominal distension, dry throat, and swelling extending upward. In this year, fire is above, metal is below, and fire is in the middle. Fire overcomes metal, Heavenly qi is full, and Earthly qi is deficient. Although Heavenly qi seems balanced, heat is severe above. It is advisable to take the source of transformation before the year begins, to level the fire qi, suppress the excessive fire movement, support the year's overcoming qi (Earth), and break the stagnation of metal, preventing excessive violence from causing disease. Eat red and white grains to preserve true qi; eat grains of the interstitial qi to ward off empty evils. For this year, it is suitable to use salty flavors to regulate the upper part, and sour flavors to gather and calm the lower part. Since the Yun matches the Heavenly qi, use cold and clearing transformations. Thus, it is said that the transformation of the upper part is salty-cold, the middle is sweet-cold, and the lower is sour-warm. This is appropriate for medicines and foods.
Before the middle of the year, Shaoyin governs. Shaoyin has the transformation of Ben (Root) and Biao (Branch); cold and heat are balanced, representing the peace of Heavenly governance. After the middle of the year, Yangming governs. Yangming transforms via its Zhong Qi (Central Qi), where dryness and humidity are half-and-half, which is the command of Earth.
First Qi: From Yin Chu of Da Han day in Ding Hai year to Zi Chu of Chun Fen day in this year, totaling 60 days and 87.5 ke. The Main Position is Shao Jiao Wood, the Guest Qi is Taiyang Water, and the Central Yun is Fire. Water overcomes Fire, Earthly qi shifts, dryness is about to depart, and cold begins. Hibernating creatures hide again, water freezes, frost falls again, wind arrives, Yang qi is depressed, people instead wrap themselves tightly, joints become stiff and fixed, waist pain occurs, sultry heat is about to rise, and sores appear inside and outside. It is suitable to regulate the Taiyang Guest Qi: tonify with bitter, drain with salty, firm with bitter, and moisten with pungent. The year grain should be red, and the interstitial grain should be Ji (Millet), so that cold does not become evil.
Second Qi: From Zi Zheng of Chun Fen day to Xu Zheng of Xiao Man day, totaling over 60 days. The Main Position is Tai Zheng Fire, the Guest Qi is Jueyin Wood, and the Central Yun is Fire. Wood and Fire generate each other, Yang qi spreads, wind flows, Spring qi is upright, all things flourish accordingly, cold qi arrives, and people are harmonious. Diseases include strangury, eye closure, and red eyes; qi stagnates above generating heat. It is suitable to regulate the Jueyin Guest Qi: tonify with pungent, drain with sour, and relax with sweet. The year grain should be red, and the interstitial grain should be rice, so that wind does not become evil.
Third Qi: From Hai Chu of Xiao Man day to You Chu of Da Shu day, totaling over 60 days. The Main Position is Tai Zheng Fire, the Guest Qi is Shaoyin Fire, and the Central Yun is Fire. The Qi matches the Yun, Heavenly governance spreads, Great Fire moves, various species flourish and are fresh, cold qi arrives. People suffer from Qi jue and heart pain, alternating cold and heat, cough and wheezing, and red eyes. It is suitable to regulate the Shaoyin Guest Qi: tonify with salty, drain with sweet, and gather with sour. The year grain should be red, and the interstitial grain should be beans, so that heat does not become evil.
Fourth Qi: From You Zheng of Da Shu day to Wei Zheng of Qiu Fen day, totaling over 60 days. The Main Position is Shao Gong Earth, the Guest Qi is Taiyin Earth, and the Central Yun is Fire. Earth occupies its position, accompanied by Fire transformation. Muggy heat arrives, heavy rain often occurs, cold and heat alternate. People suffer from cold and heat, dry throat, jaundice, nasal congestion, epistaxis, and fluid retention leading to edema. It is suitable to regulate the Taiyin Guest Qi: tonify with sweet, drain with bitter, and relax with sweet. The year grain should be white, and the interstitial grain should be hemp, so that dampness does not become evil.
Fifth Qi: From Shen Chu of Qiu Fen day to Wu Chu of Xiao Xue day, totaling over 60 days. The Main Position is Tai Shang Metal, the Guest Qi is Shaoyang Fire, and the Central Yun is Fire. The Qi matches the Transformation, Fearful Fire descends, sultry heat returns, Yang transforms, all things grow and flourish, people are healthy. The disease is warm disease. It is suitable to regulate the Shaoyang Guest Qi: tonify with salty, drain with sweet, and [text missing, implied regulation] with salty. The year grain should be white, and the interstitial grain should be beans, so that fire does not become evil. Regarding this Qi, avoid using heat when heat is prevalent; do not violate the heat of the Si Qi.
Sixth Qi (Final Qi): From Wu Zheng of Xiao Xue day to Chen Zheng of Da Han day, totaling over 60 days. The Main Position is Shao Yu Water, the Guest Qi is Yangming Metal, and the Central Yun is Fire. Fire overcomes Metal, Water counter-restrains, Dryness command acts, residual fire is internally blocked, swelling occurs above, cough and wheezing, and in severe cases, hematemesis. Cold qi frequently rises, causing foggy obscurity. Diseases arise in the skin and pores, settle internally in the hypochondrium, connect downward to the lower abdomen causing cold-middle syndrome, and the Earthly qi is about to change. It is suitable to regulate the Yangming Guest Qi: tonify with sour, drain with pungent, and drain with bitter. The year grain should be white, and the interstitial grain should be glutinous millet, so that dryness does not become evil. This is the transformation of the Six Qi.
At the transition of yearly Qi, it is suitable to support deficiency and restrain excess, making the Qi appropriately balanced. However, in this year, Tian Fu acts as the Law Enforcer. If evil pathogens strike the Law Enforcer, people will fall ill rapidly and dangerously.
