秘涩不通,或胸中冲悸,不欲见明;或精神 愦,或善忘语错;或壮热头疼;或身体冷痛;

Wind-toxin invading the human body can cause disease anywhere, but why does it tend to concentrate on the feet? This is because the meridians of the five zang organs originate differently: the Heart and Lung meridians start from the ten fingers of the hands, while the Liver, Kidney, and Spleen meridians start from the ten toes of the feet. The dampness and toxic vapors steaming from the ground are first received by the feet. If not cured for a long time, it gradually spreads to the four limbs, abdomen, back, head, and neck. This is what the ancients called "not feeling it when slight, knowing it only when entrenched." Hence, this disease is called "Hong Kong Foot" (Jiaoqi/Foot Qi). Its symptoms are diverse: some vomit upon seeing food or detest the smell of food; some have abdominal pain and diarrhea; some suffer from constipation of both stool and urine; some experience palpitations in the chest and dislike bright light; some have mental confusion, forgetfulness, or disordered speech; some have high fever and headache; some have cold pain in the body; some occasionally experience muscle spasms; some have numbness in the lower abdomen; some have stiff paralysis in the thighs and calves; some have flaccid weakness; some swell, some do not; some have cramping of all joints. All these conditions belong to the manifestations of Hong Kong Foot. Chao Yuanfang only discussed eight syndromes such as flaccidity and rebellious qi. Now, after detailed examination of medical texts, there are differences between Yin/Yang syndromes and Dry/Wet syndromes. From different regions like Jiangdong and Lingnan, to phlegm obstruction with slurred speech, transformation into edema, and methods such as applying plasters or soaking baths, the approaches vary. Therefore, they are comprehensively explained and recorded here. Although treatment methods are numerous, Sun Simiao stated: "Do not strongly tonify, nor strongly purge; ultimately, do not fear deficiency." Thus, using decoctions prophylactically should be considered the highest method of treatment. Scholars should pay close attention to this.

The *Neijing* states: "When heat dominates, the earth becomes hot; when wind dominates, the earth shakes; when dampness dominates, the earth becomes muddy; when cold dominates, the earth cracks." The qi of cold, heat, wind, and dampness all originate from the earth. When people walk on it, toxins easily invade the feet. Because the disease starts from the feet, it is called Hong Kong Foot. Furthermore, regarding the flow of qi and blood through the five zang organs, the meridians of the Spleen, Kidney, and Liver all originate from the toes, hence the disease of Wind-Toxin Hong Kong Foot. Symptoms may include vomiting upon seeing food; abdominal pain and diarrhea; obstruction of stool and urine; palpitations in the chest and dislike of bright light; disordered speech and forgetfulness; headache and high fever; cold pain in the body; calf spasms and swelling; numbness and flaccidity. The presentations are varied. Treatment must not be delayed. As soon as one feels any abnormality in the symptoms, one must be extremely vigilant. Resolve to treat it urgently. If slightly delayed, the pathogenic qi ascends into the abdomen, causing swelling or non-swelling, fullness and rebellion in the chest, and rebellious qi with shoulder breathing, death will follow swiftly; even with a few days' grace period, death is certain. Therefore, urgent treatment is essential. Observe if the epigastrium is tense, breathing is labored and continuous, sweating occurs spontaneously, or there are alternating chills and fever. If the pulse is rapid, short, and frequent, accompanied by incessant vomiting, it is a fatal sign, so delay is unacceptable.
