Treats twelve postpartum diseases in women, leukorrhea (vaginal discharge), and infertility. These conditions are all caused by cold wind-cold qi. If, within one hundred days after childbirth, when the evil blood in the uterine collaterals has not yet been fully expelled, one hastens to squat on a high toilet or sits for long periods, damp-cold enters the interior of the uterus, knotting in the lower abdomen, forming firm, painful accumulations. The masses are small as chicken eggs, large as fists; upon pressing, they feel pulsating and dull-painful, sometimes like insect bites, sometimes like needle pricks. Qi rushes upward to seize the heart, the two hypochondria feel distended and full, appetite is lost, food is not digested, the flow of qi up and down is obstructed, or it stays at the epigastrium, with pain radiating to the vulva and back/shoulders. There is vomiting and regurgitation, shortness of breath, sweating, bitter cold in the lower abdomen, lesions in the uterus, coughing that draws pain from the yin organs, involuntary urination, abnormal opening of the zi men (cervix/os), leading to infertility, pain in the waist and hips, heaviness and stiffness in the four limbs, edema throughout the body, symptoms that come and go suddenly, constipation, dribbling dysuria, amenorrhea, or discharge resembling rotting flesh, with colors such as green, yellow, red, white, and black, like bean juice, and even dreams of ominous events.
(One formula is named Ziga Mumeng Wan [Purple Canopy Mumeng Pill], composed of: Mumeng [Moumeng Root], Houpo [Magnolia Bark], Xiaoshi [Niter], Qianhu [Peucedani Radix], Ganjiang [Dried Ginger], Chong [Insect drug, likely referring to a blood-breaking insect], Mudanpi [Moutan Cortex], Chuannjiao [Sichuan Pepper], Huangqin [Scutellaria Root], Jiegeng [Platycodon Root], Fuling [Poria], Xixin [Asarum], Tingli [Descurainiae Semen], Renshen [Ginseng Root], Chuanxiong [Ligusticum Rhizome], Wuzhuyu [Evodia Fruit], Guixin [Cinnamon Twig], each 18 zhu; Dahuang [Rhubarb Rhizome] 2.5 liang; Fuzi [Aconite Lateral Root] 1 liang 6 zhu; Danggui [Angelica Sinensis Root] 0.5 liang.)
Grind the above twenty ingredients into powder, mix with honey, and pound ten thousand times. Form pills the size of wu zi (Chinese apricot seeds). Take two pills with wine on an empty stomach, three times a day. If ineffective, increase gradually to five or six pills per dose. Discharging green, white, yellow, or red substances resembling fish roe indicates the root of the disease has been expelled.
Treats amenorrhea where masses form like stones, causing abdominal distension while the body becomes emaciated. This blood-breaking and purgative formula is suitable:
Dahuang [Rhubarb Rhizome], Xiaoshi [Niter] (each 6 liang); Badou [Croton Seed], Chuannjiao [Sichuan Pepper] (each 1 liang); Daizhe [Hematitum], Chaihu [Bupleuri Radix] (stir-fried until color changes); Shuizhi [Hirudo], Danshen [Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root] (stir-fried until purple); Tugua Gen [Trichosanthes Radix] (each 3 liang); Ganqi [Drylac Resin], Chuanxiong [Ligusticum Rhizome], Ganjiang [Dried Ginger], Mengchong [Blatta Orientalis], Fuling [Poria] (each 2 liang).
Grind the above fourteen ingredients into powder. Process Badou [Croton Seed] separately. Mix with honey to form pills the size of wu zi. Take two pills with wine on an empty stomach; if ineffective, increase to five pills. Take twice a day. (Qianjin Yi [Supplement to Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold] omits Chaihu [Bupleuri Radix], Shuizhi [Hirudo], Danshen [Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root], and Tugua Gen [Trichosanthes Radix].)
