General description of Cui Shi's methods for storing infants' clothing.
The infant's clothing should first be washed with clear water, ensuring it is not contaminated by sand, soil, or grass, and then washed with clear wine. A copper coin should be placed inside the clothing, which is then put into a new bottle. The bottle is wrapped in green cotton, and the bottle mouth is tightly covered. It is temporarily placed in a convenient location for three days. After three days have passed, according to the auspicious day and direction of the current month, choose an area that faces the sun and is high and dry. Dig a pit three chi deep, bury the bottle, and pile earth one chi seven cun thick over the bottle, compacting it firmly. This practice will ensure the child lives long and possesses wisdom. If the clothing is stored carelessly and eaten by pigs or dogs, the child may suffer from epilepsy; if eaten by insects or ants, the child may develop malignant sores; if eaten by dogs or birds, the child may die in war; if buried near a shrine or temple, the child may see ghosts; if near deep water ponds, the child may drown; if near old stove sites, the child may be easily startled and vigilant; if near wells, the child may suffer from deafness and blindness; if discarded on roads or alleys, the child may be childless; if placed at the door, the child may have difficulty speaking and suffer from deafness; if thrown into flowing water downstream, the child may suffer from blue-blindness (a type of visual impairment); if discarded in fire, the child may develop leprosy-like sores; if hung on trees or wood, the child may commit suicide by hanging. All such taboos must be treated with caution.
Additionally, the method for settling the postpartum woman and determining the Tian De (Heavenly Virtue) and Yue Kong (Monthly Void) positions for storing clothing:
First Month (Tian De is in Ding, Yue Kong is in Bing and Ren)
Second Month (Tian De is in Kun, Yue Kong is in Jia and Geng)
Third Month (Tian De is in Ren, Yue Kong is in Bing and Ren)
Seventh Month (Tian De is in Gui, Yue Kong is in Bing and Ren)
Eighth Month (Tian De is in Gen, Yue Kong is in Jia and Geng)
Ninth Month (Tian De is in Bing, Yue Kong is in Bing and Ren)
Tenth Month (Tian De is in Yi, Yue Kong is in Jia and Geng)
Eleventh Month (Tian De is in Xun, Yue Kong is in Bing and Ren)
Twelfth Month (Tian De is in Geng, Yue Kong is in Jia and Geng)
For all storage of infants' clothing, follow this method: bury them in the direction of Tian De or Yue Kong. If encountering a Fan Zhi (Reverse Branch) day, place the clothing in a new bottle, seal the mouth tightly, hang it at the Fu De (Fortune and Virtue) position outside the house, in a sunny and dry place. Wait until the month passes, then bury it according to the standard method for great auspiciousness.
Another method:
During the ten days of the Jia Yin cycle, do not bury the infant's clothing. Place it in a sealed bottle in an open area, and after these ten days pass, proceed with burial.
Another method:
On the five days of Jia Chen, Yi Si, Bing Wu, Ding Wei, and Wu Shen, do not bury the infant's clothing. Keep it in a bottle, tightly sealed to prevent air exchange, and hang it in a place associated with life. After these five days pass, bury it. Do not exceed these days.
Another method:
For infants born on Jia or Yi days, it is auspicious to store the clothing on Bing or Ding days. For infants born on Bing or Ding days, it is auspicious to store the clothing on Wu or Ji days. For infants born on Wu or Ji days, it is auspicious to store the clothing on Geng or Xin days. For infants born on Geng or Xin days, it is auspicious to store the clothing on Ren or Gui days.
