Moxibustion Methods for Various Goiters from *Qianjin Fang*.
Apply moxibustion to Jianyu (Shoulder Bone, LI15) [Note: Text says "Jian", likely referring to Jianyu or similar shoulder region acupoints in context of goiter, but literal translation is Shoulder. Given "Wanwan zhong" (depression), Jianyu is standard. However, strict adherence to text "Jian" -> Shoulder area/acupoint]. In the depressions on both left and right sides, males receive eighteen moxa cones on the left and seventeen on the right; females receive eighteen on the left and seventeen on the right. Repeat multiple times until recovery.
Another method:
Apply one hundred moxa cones to Fengchi (Wind Pool, GB20). Fengchi is located on both sides of the neck, with the two acupoints situated in the middle of the hairline above the two ears. (Commentary: This entry in *Qianjin Fang* and *Shengji Zonglu* states "moxa Fengchi one hundred cones," and also mentions "moxa behind the ears at the hairline one hundred cones," which are actually two separate records. However, there is no acupoint named "Hairline" in *Mingtang Jing*.)
Another method:
Apply one hundred moxa cones to Dazhui (Great Vertebra, GV14). The distance between the two points is each one and a half cun, positioned slightly downward, thirty cones for each point.
Another method:
Apply moxibustion to Jinchong (Neck Rushing). To locate Jinchong, extend both arms straight forward, let the arms touch the head, and apply moxibustion at the spot opposite the nose. The number of cones should correspond to the patient's age. Generally, moxa is applied to five locations and nine acupoints (text fragment missing here).
Additionally, a prescription for goiter accompanied by Qi rebellion and shortness of breath.
Moxa Feishu (Lung Shu, BL13) one hundred cones.
Additionally, a method for goiter accompanied by Qi rebellion and chest fullness.
Moxa Yunmen (Cloud Gate, LU2) fifty cones.
Additionally, a prescription for goiter accompanied by foul Qi.
Moxa Xiong tang (Chest Hall, CV17? Or specific local point, text says Xiong Tang) one hundred cones.
Additionally, a method for goiter accompanied by foul Qi.
Moxa Tianfu (Heavenly Mansion, LU3) fifteen cones.
Additionally, a method for goiter accompanied by labor Qi (deficiency Qi).
Moxa Chongyang (Surging Yang, ST42? Text description conflicts). Apply according to age. It is located at the head of the transverse crease on the outer side of the elbow. (Based on this description, it refers to Quchi (Pool at the Crook, LI11), whereas Chongyang is located five cun above the dorsum of the foot.)
Additionally, a method for treating goiter.
Moxa Tianqu (Heavenly Qu, EX-HN?) three hundred cones, applied horizontally with an interval of three cun.
Additionally, a method for goiter accompanied by facial swelling.
Moxa Tongtian (Reaching Heaven, EX-HN8?) fifty cones, located two cun above the ear.
Additionally, a method for moxa-treating goiter.
Moxa Zhongfeng (Middle Seal, SP4). Apply according to age. It is located in the depression resembling a carpenter's square above the curvature of both ankles. (All above are cited from Volume 25.)
Additionally, a method for moxa-treating goiter.
Moxa the hairline behind the ear. There is a yin bone, and between the bones is a small acupoint where arterial pulsation can be felt. Apply moxibustion following the previous methods; it is highly effective. The locations of the aforementioned acupoints are detailed in Volume 39 of *Mingtang Jing*. (Cited from Volume 6.)
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* records: Flesh and skin suddenly swell up, initially the size of a plum or apricot, gradually growing larger, without itching or pain, nor hardening, feeling soft upon pressure. This is a Blood Tumor (Xue Liu).
*Shenshi Fang* prescription for Lipoma (Zhi Liu) and Fine Tumor (Xi Liu).
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) (one fen) Alum (Fanshi) (calcined) Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Chuanxiong) Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) Rheii Radix (Dahuang) Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) Ampelopsis Radix (Bailian) Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) (each two fen)
Combine the above nine ingredients, pound into powder, sift, and mix with egg white. Apply onto old, cooked cloth. Paste according to the size of the tumor, adjusting thickness. Change when dry. The medication should cause suppuration and discharge of lipid. Allow pus and blood to drain slowly from the pores. Once pus and blood are exhausted, apply Shengrou Gao (Flesh-Generating Ointment); otherwise, recurrence may occur if pus remains. The prescription for Shengrou Gao is as follows.
Additionally, Shengrou Gao treats carbuncles, tumors that have ulcerated and leaked, as well as metal wounds and various sores. Prescription:
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) (processed) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix (Chuanxiong) (each one liang) Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus (Xiebai) (one liang) Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang) (three liang)
Chop the above seven ingredients. Combine with three and a half sheng of lard. Simmer Baizhi and Shengdihuang over low heat. Strain the dregs. Apply slightly warm to the wound surface three times daily. Good results. (*Qianjin Fang* has the same record, cited from Volume 29.)
*Qianjin Fang* states: Do not treat flesh tumors (Rou Liu); treatment may cause death. Be extremely cautious. (Cited from Volume 25.)
*Qianjin Yifang* prescription for treating tumor diseases.
Meat from Muntjac (Zhang) and Deer (Lu), cut into thick jerky strips. Roast over fire until hot. Apply as a compress/warm pack. Can roast four times and replace four times. Pain and suppuration will heal. If not cured, roast new meat and use again. Effective. (Cited from Volume 24.)
