Disease Origin: Tuogang (Rectal Prolapse) refers to the protrusion of the anus. It is mostly caused by deficiency and coldness of the Large Intestine following chronic dysentery. The anus serves as the external manifestation of the Large Intestine; when the Large Intestine is deficient and injured by cold, combined with straining during dysentery causing Qi to rush downward, the anus protrudes, hence the term Tuogang (Rectal Prolapse). (From Volume 17)
Duanju's Fumigation Formula for Treating Rectal Prolapse.
Take one sheng of Liuwei (Caulis Polygoni Multiflori), burn it in a container, sit on it to fumigate the anus, which will lead to recovery. (Also recorded in Fan Wang's Jiyan Fang and Qianjin Fang, Volume 10)
Shanfan Lun states: The anus is the organ governing the passage of stool, harmonizing with the Lung and Large Intestine, known as "Tongshi Lingshi" (Messenger Official), weighing two liang, measuring one chi two cun in length and two cun two fen in width, corresponding to the twelve double-hours. If internal organs are injured by heat, the anus becomes blocked, leading to constipation; or it may swell, retract, and develop sores. If the fu-organs are injured by cold, the anus becomes cold, resulting in watery diarrhea.
Formula for Treating Anal Lesions, Indicated for Lung Heat causing anal blockage, constipation, swelling, and retraction, using White Honey Suppository.
Boil three sheng of white honey until dry, immerse in cold water to form pills approximately six or seven cun long. Insert into the anus; as it enters the body and moves upward with the head pointing down, leave it for a short time until it melts, leading to smooth defecation shortly after. (Also recorded in Qianjin Fang, Volume 3)
Qianjin Fang Formula for Treating Anal Protrusion.
Cishi (Magnetite, four liang, ground) Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex, one chi) Pihoupo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, one piece, roasted until yellow)
Sift the above three herbs into powder. Take one fangcun bi (a measure equivalent to a square inch spoonful) per dose, ten doses daily, until the anus retracts. Avoid lifting heavy objects and abstain from sexual intercourse for one year for optimal recovery. (From Volume 25)
Shanfan Formula for Treating Anal Lesions, Indicated for Cold in the Large Intestine causing anal coldness, leading to profuse diarrhea and protrusion, using Pig Liver Powder.
Zhugan (Pig Liver, one jin, roasted until yellow and dry) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, roasted) Xiongqiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, two liang each) Wumei Rou (Mume Fructus Flesh, five liang, stewed) Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, one liang, stewed)
Grind and sift the above six herbs. Take one fangcun bi warm on an empty stomach in the morning, twice daily. If wine cannot be used for delivery, plain rice porridge is acceptable. (Also recorded in Qianjin Fang, Volume 3)
Qianjin Fang Formula for Anal Protrusion, Using Wall Earth Powder.
Gubi Dongbi Tu (Earth from the east wall of an old house, one sheng, crushed and ground fine) Zaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, three long pods)
Grind the earth into powder, wrap it, and apply to the anus. For the protruding part, take roasted and warmed Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus to apply alternating heat compresses until the prolapse reduces.
Alternative Formula for Pressing Back with Hemp Shoe Sole.
Mali Di (Hemp Shoe Sole) Bie Tou (Trionycis Carapax et Plastrum, one head)
Burn the Trionycis Carapax et Plastrum into powder and apply to the protruding anus. Roast the hemp shoe sole and use it to press and compress the area until reduction is achieved, preventing future recurrence. (All from Volume 25)
