Xu Renze discusses this disease as having two types: one type involves frequent and abundant urination accompanied by thirst, with food intake gradually increasing while muscles gradually diminish, leading to fatigue and poor complexion; this is Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome). The other type involves frequent urination that does not increase in volume, without thirst or abnormal dietary habits, or perhaps the ability to eat but with reduced appetite; however, when exposed to cold weather, urination increases, with no other symptoms present; this is caused by deficiency-cold. Generally, both conditions stem from coldness in the Qi Sea (lower abdomen) and the Bladder organ; if untreated, they can be fatal. Kidney deficiency with coldness in the waist poses less harm. If it is confirmed that frequent urination is due to Xiao Ke, one should sequentially administer the following formulas: Ba Wei Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction) containing Baxia, etc.; Shi Si Wei Wan (Fourteen-Ingredient Pill) containing Huangqi, etc.; Shi Wei Yin (Ten-Ingredient Drink) containing Zhugen, etc.; and Shi Si Wei Jian (Fourteen-Ingredient Decoction) containing Xiaomai Mian, etc.
Baxia Ba Wei Tang Formula.
Baxia (Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae), Tugua Gen (Radix Trichosanthis Kirilowii) (each 3 liang); Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei), Digupi (Cortex Lycii), Wuzi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) (each 4 liang); Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (3 liang); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (8 liang, crushed); Muli (Concha Ostreae) (3 liang).
Cut the above herbs, boil in 10 dou of water until 3 sheng remain, strain, and divide into three warm doses. Take one dose for every distance equivalent to walking ten li. Taking five to six doses is optimal. Administer one dose every five days. After completing the dosage, proceed to take the subsequent Huangqi Shi Si Wei Wan.
Huangqi Shi Si Wei Wan Formula.
Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Tugua Gen (Radix Trichosanthis Kirilowii) (each 5 liang); Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis) (3 liang); Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae Ningpoensis) (6 liang); Gualou (Fructus Trichosanthis), Digupi (Cortex Lycii), Longgu (Os Draconis), Baxia (Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae), Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, processed) (each 4 liang); Muli (Concha Ostreae, roasted); Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Sangpiaoxiao (Oötheca Mantidis, processed) (each 3 liang); Wuzi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) (1 sheng).
Pulverize the above herbs, mix with honey to form pills. Swallow with the subsequent Zhugen Yin. Start with 15 pills, twice daily, gradually increasing to 30 pills. Size should resemble a wutong seed. Avoid pork and cold water.
Zhugen Yin Zi Formula.
Zhugen (Radix Bambusae), Shengmaogen (Radix Imperatae Cylindricae), Luguan (Rhizoma Phragmitis Communis) (each cut, 5 sheng); Baxia (Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae, cut) (2 sheng); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (1 jin, crushed); Wumei (Fructus Mume) (30 pieces); Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, cut) (1 sheng); Xiaomai (Semen Tritici aestivi) (3 sheng); Zhuli (Nodus Bambusae in Taedia) (2 sheng); Baimi (Mel) (1 sheng).
Boil the above herbs in 50 dou of water until 1 dou remains, strain, add Zhuli and Baimi, and store in an airtight vessel. Use to swallow the aforementioned pills. Even if pills are not swallowed, as long as one feels... [Text incomplete]
