[Etiology] When pathogenic factors invade the skin and are further compromised by wind-cold, wind-scratching urticaria (urticaria caused by wind) arises. If the rash is red, it is due to cold-dampness clashing with heat within the muscles; when the heat becomes excessive, causing strong qi dynamics, the interaction between wind qi and this internal heat results in urticaria, accompanied by bodily itching. The Health Preservation Formula states: one should not sleep outdoors or bathe while sweating, as this may induce chills and fever, manifesting as wind-rash. (From Volume II)
Shen Shi Formula for treating wind-scratching urticaria resembling lacquer dermatitis, accompanied by chest oppression:
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Pao Tianxiong, 炮天雄), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu, 知母), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 牛膝) [each 4 fen], Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) [6 fen], Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心), Isatidis Folium Secatum (Ganlan, 干蓝), Asari Radix (Xixin, 细辛), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) [each 3 fen], Trichosanthis Fructus (Gualou, 栝蒌) [5 fen], Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) [8 fen].
The above ten herbs are crushed and sifted. Take half a qianbi (a small measuring spoon) before meals, twice daily. If ineffective, slightly increase the dosage. Avoid pork, raw green onions, raw vegetables, plums, peaches, and sparrow meat.
Another powder formula for treating wind-scratching body urticaria:
Aconiti Radix (Pao Wutou, 炮乌头), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗), Asari Radix (Xixin, 细辛), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) [each 1 liang].
The above four herbs are crushed and sifted. Mix with lead-zhu (red pigment) for color, add four sheng of rice flour, and blend well. Apply the powder to the whole body. (Same as Fan Wang's record, from Volume X)
Qian Jin Formula for treating wind-scratching urticaria:
Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix powder, taken with wine, one fangcunbi (square-inch spoonful) per dose, three times daily. This formula also treats bone and flesh abscesses, epilepsy, and scrofula. (From Volume XXIII)

The above twenty-one herbs are cut. Soak them in vinegar overnight until fully submerged. The next morning, place in a copper vessel over charcoal fire, adding five sheng of lard. Boil using the method of "three ups and three downs" (repeated heating and cooling). Stop when Baizhi turns yellow. Strain out the dregs and store the ointment in a non-porous container. Rub onto the skin to treat wind-rash. (Same as Zhang Wenzhong's record)
