Puncture the tip of the tongue with a silver needle. Evacuate all the *evil blood* (stagnant or toxic blood), then apply candle wax oil to the area for immediate healing. Alternatively, crush fresh *Artemisia argyi* (Mugwort) and apply it as a poultice.
Stir-fry *Buckthorn Flower* (Huaihua) until dry, grind into powder, and sprinkle it on the lesion. Alternatively, burn human hair to ash, mix with vinegar, and apply as a poultice. Alternatively, take *Imperata cylindrica root* (Maocaogen), fresh *Plantago asiatica seed* (Cheqianzi), and messy hair in unspecified quantities, along with *Equisetum ramosissimum herb* (Muzei, 4 qian). Decoct in water and use for mouth rinsing; bleeding will stop immediately.
Grind *Evodia fruit* (Wuzhuyu, 3-4 qian) into powder. Mix with hot vinegar and apply to the soles of both feet. Bind securely with cloth and replace after one shichen (2 hours); this is highly effective. It can also be used in conjunction with *Renzhong San* (see Dental Section). This formula treats sores on the throat and tongue.
Heat salt by stir-frying and apply it several times for effect. First, press down the swollen tongue with chopsticks, then apply the salt. Alternatively, burn salted olives including the pits, crush them, and apply the powder.
In cases where a person has cut their tongue with a knife while holding it in their mouth, and the tongue hangs loose but is not completely severed: cover the tongue with the inner white membrane of an egg. Grind *Red Peony Root* (Chishao, 2 liang), *Turmeric Rhizome* (Jianghuang), and *Angelica dahurica root* (Baizhi, 1 liang each) into powder. Mix with honey and apply to the base of the tongue. Mix *White Beeswax* (Bila) with white honey to a suitable consistency, spread onto the egg membrane, and apply several times a day. The tongue will naturally reattach within three days. Remove the egg membrane and continue applying honey-beeswax mixture frequently; full recovery occurs within seven days. Another method: if the tongue is bitten off and bleeding from the center does not stop, dip a goose feather in rice vinegar and frequently brush the wound to stop bleeding. Alternatively, apply slices of lean pork, which is even better. Apply powdered dried meat (one piece, roasted dry) to promote tissue regeneration. (Medicines should be prepared in advance for emergencies). Alternatively, burn live crabs to ash and apply with *Frankincense Resin* (Ruxiang) to regenerate flesh. If lips or tongue are bitten off, grind *Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root* (Chuanwu) and *Aconitum kusnezoffii root* (Caowu) into powder, spread on a strip of paper, mix with cool water, and apply as a patch.
Take rat skull bones and teeth, calcine with salt until the medicinal property is retained (*cun xing*), grind finely, and rub against loose teeth to tighten them. Alternatively, prepare *Zhuye Gao* (Bamboo Leaf Paste): take fresh bamboo leaves (stalks removed and cleaned), *Ginger* (4 liang), and purified salt (6 liang). First decoct the bamboo leaves to obtain a thick juice. Then crush ginger to extract juice and add it to the decoction. Filter out dregs and boil with salt until it forms a paste. Rub this paste on painful gums once or twice for cure. Alternatively, collect ashes from pig and sheep bones pickled in the twelfth lunar month, grind finely, and use to brush teeth every morning. This yields significant benefits, especially for the upper jaw bones.
