Xuer Chuang (Eczema behind the ear) arises in the crease behind the ear, spreading up and down to cause ear pain. Its appearance resembles a knife cut caused by damp-heat; applying Chuanfen San (Powder of Lead Oxide and Calomel) will lead to success.
[Note] This condition occurs between the creases behind the ear, extending to the folds of the auricle, presenting with a knife-cut-like appearance up and down. The color is red, and yellow fluid oozes intermittently. It is caused by damp-heat in the Gallbladder and Spleen channels. However, this sore fluctuates with the moon's phases: it flourishes when the moon is full and wanes when the moon is deficient. Hence, it is also known as Yueshi Chuang (Moon-eating Sore). Applying Chuanfen San externally is effective.
Chuanfen San (Powder of Lead Oxide and Calomel)
Qingfen (Calomel, ground and lightly stir-fried through paper) Chanshanjia (Pangolin Scales, prepared) Qianfen (Lead Oxide) Huangdan (Litharge, water-washed), each 3 qian.
Grind all into an extremely fine powder, mix with sesame oil, and apply topically.
[Fang Ge] Chuanfen San applied for Xuer Chuang clears heat and leaches out dampness, mixed with oil is excellent; Qingfen is ground fine and fried through paper, combined with Chanshanjia, Qianfen, and Huangdan.
Mouth ulcers in adults are differentiated into deficiency and excess patterns. A bright red color indicates excess, while a pale red color indicates deficiency. In excess patterns, there are widespread ulcerated spots and swelling throughout the mouth; in deficiency patterns, the lesions are white, non-swollen, with sparse spots.
[Note] This condition is named Kou Chuang (Mouth Ulcer), divided into deficiency fire and excess fire. Deficiency fire presents with a pale red color, sparse white spots throughout the mouth, and in severe cases, sunken cracks resembling turtle shells. The pulse is deficient, and there is no thirst. This results from excessive mental exertion, leading to frequent waking and little sleep, causing a failure of communication between the Heart and Kidney, with deficiency fire flaming upward. It is appropriate to administer Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Danpi (Moutan Cortex), with a small amount of Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) as a guiding agent, following the method of treating according to the nature of the disease. Externally, Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder) should be applied. Excess fire presents with a bright red color, widespread ulcerated spots throughout the mouth, and in severe cases, swelling of the cheeks and tongue. The pulse is excess, and there is dry mouth. This results from overconsumption of rich, greasy foods, strong wine, and roasted or fried items, causing wild movement of excess fire in the Heart and Spleen. It is appropriate to administer Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder) and apply Fuyan San (Banquet Attending Powder) externally; efficacy is seen when saliva is expectorated. If mouth ulcers are accompanied by a dry tongue, yellow and hard coating, and thirst, Jiajian Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill) should be administered to nourish the source of transformation. Rinsing the mouth with water is prohibited in all cases.
Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder)
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, powder, 1 liang) Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 3 qian) Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, 1 qian) Longnaoxiang (Borneol, 2 fen).
Grind each finely, then mix thoroughly. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time.
[Fang Ge] Liuhua San treats white mouth ulcers; Huangbai, Qingdai, and Longnaoxiang are used. Ground together with Rougui and applied to the lesion, deficiency fire flaming upward calms naturally.
Fuyan San (Banquet Attending Powder)
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, raw) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, powder) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), equal parts.
Grind into a fine powder. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time.
[Fang Ge] Fuyan San attacks excess fire; mouth ulcer spots are mostly red. Huangqin, Huanglian, Zhizi, Ganjiang, Huangbai, and Xixin ground together work miraculously.
