Chibo Youfeng (Red and White Wandering Wind) belongs to the deficiency of Spleen and Lung Qi, with loose Cou Li (skin texture and pores), leading to the struggle between Wind and Heat; or it is caused by Cold closing the Cou Li, causing internal Heat to be stifled and depressed; or it results from Yin deficiency triggering Fire movement, making one susceptible to external pathogens. If due to Wind-Heat struggling, use Jingfang Baidu San (Atractylodes and Saposhnikovia Powder to Overcome Toxins). If due to internal Heat combined with external Cold, use Jia Wei Qiang Huo San (Modified Notopterygium Decoction). If due to Stomach Qi weakness, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Reinforcing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) added with Qiang Huo and Fang Feng, along with Xiaofeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder). If due to Blood deficiency, use Jia Wei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If due to Yin deficiency, use Xiaoyao San and Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). If it is Liver-Kidney deficient Heat, using Liuwei Wan will cause the Fire to subside naturally, the Wind to settle, and the itching to stop. If wind-expelling acrid-hot agents are used, Liver Blood will become drier, Wind-Fire will blaze more fiercely, and Yuan Qi (Original Qi) will become more deficient. If the Cou Li fails to close, Wind lodges internally and invades deeply, damaging Kidney Qi, causing Xiang Huo (Ministerial Fire) to flare up, Blood transforming with the Fire, making it difficult to treat.
Case Records:
A man developed nodules in autumn; this was due to deficient Yuan Qi invaded by external pathogens. Initially, he took Jiwei Qianghuo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction) for two doses, then recovered after taking Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Qiang Huo. Later, due to improper daily routine, he experienced night sweats, afternoon fever, dry mouth, expectoration of phlegm, body fatigue, and reluctance to speak. He recovered using Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Jiaban Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill).
A woman had a body resembling Dansu (Erysipelas), with oozing pus when scratched, accompanied by heat, thirst, dizziness, and worsening symptoms in the afternoon. She recovered using Jia Wei Xiaoyao San.
A woman suffered from Chibo Youfeng, with severe evening fever and intense itching. I prescribed herbs to clear the Liver and nourish Blood. Disbelieving my diagnosis, she took medicines for Leprosy (Dama Feng Yao), resulting in arm pain and tendon contraction. Subsequently, she took phlegm-resolving and Qi-regulating agents, leading to flaccidity of the four limbs and death.
Another woman with the same condition repeatedly used wind-expelling herbs for decoction baths, resulting in abdominal distension and death.
A young woman presented with red flushes like rosy clouds, itching, and fever. She recovered using Jia Wei Xiao Chaihu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction) added with Sheng Di, Lian Qiao, and Dan Pi.
Jiechuang (Scabies) belongs to Damp-Toxin accumulation and Heat in the Spleen Meridian, or Blood-Heat and Wind-Heat in the Liver Meridian, or Yin-deficiency Fever in the Kidney Meridian. If accompanied by body fatigue and poor appetite, it is Damp-Heat in the Spleen Meridian; use Chushi Weiling San (Dampness-Draining Stomach-Lingzhi Powder). If scratching causes pain, it is Wind-Heat; use Danggui Yinzi (Angelica Decoction). If constipation causes pain, it is Heat-Toxin; use Shengma Heqi Yin (Cimicifuga Harmonizing Qi Drink). If there is heat, thirst, and normal bowel movements, it is deficient Heat in the Spleen and Lung; use Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction). If there is internal heat, evening fever, or alternating chills and fever, it is Liver Meridian Blood deficiency with Wind-Heat; use Jia Wei Xiaoyao San and Liuwei Wan. If there is body fatigue, reduced food intake, night sweats, or insomnia, it is Spleen Qi stagnation; use Jia Wei Guipi Tang (Modified Heart-Spleen Replenishing Decoction), Xiaoyao San, and Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). If there is fever, night sweats, expectoration, or dry mouth, it is Kidney Meridian deficient Heat; use the ingredients of Liuwei Wan as a decoction.
Case Records:
Li Longgang, an official of the Jixun office, suffered from this all over his body, especially on the legs and feet. Symptoms worsened in the afternoon, with dry mouth, thirst, frequent dark urine. This was Kidney Meridian deficient Heat; he recovered using Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Liuwei Wan.
A scholar suffered from sneezing and itching. I considered this due to internal Damp-Heat, loose Cou Li, and external pathogen aggression. I treated him with Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Baizhi and Chuanxiong.
Another scholar had lesions on his arms and legs, experiencing itching or distension in the afternoon, with physical fatigue. After self-medicating with Baidu San, the painful areas swelled, and urination became red and difficult. This indicated Lung and Kidney Yin deficiency. I treated him with Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Wuweizi and Maidong, resulting in recovery.
A scholar suffering from this condition mistakenly used purgative agents, causing Yuan Qi deficiency and failure to recover. Using Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Fuling, his sores healed suddenly. However, due to improper convalescence, symptoms worsened in the afternoon. He was treated with Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) added with Wuweizi and Maidong for over fifty doses, leading to recovery.
A man presented with dark complexion, itching, and discharge of black blood, with symptoms worsening in the afternoon. His legs swelled during the day and subsided at night. I diagnosed this as Qi and Blood deficiency with Heat. He took Buzhong Yiqi Tang in the morning and Jia Wei Xiaoyao San in the evening, resulting in recovery.
A man contracted this after recovering from an epidemic. Using the aforementioned drugs for nourishment led to recovery. Another patient with the same condition died after undergoing Bianfa (bloodletting with stone needles). This was due to Yin deficiency and Blood-Heat causing dark color and itching. Why did they harm Yin and Blood?
A woman suffered from this for a long time without cure, with poor appetite and body fatigue. This was Liver and Spleen deficiency causing deficient Heat. Initially, I used Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Chuanxiong and Chao Shanzhi to gradually restore Yuan Qi, followed by Siwu Tang combined with Xiao Chaihu Tang. After the heat subsided, I switched to Xiaoyao San to tonify the Spleen and Stomach and generate Yin Blood. Some patients presenting with chills and fever resembling malaria were also treated with these formulas.
