Treats dry mouth and thirst following the resolution of sores, or severe cases with a yellow tongue coating; also treats thirst occurring before the onset of illness. This indicates depletion of Kidney Water, failing to moisten upwards, leading to flaming up of Heart Fire, and failure of Water and Fire to interact (Ji Ji). Thus, there is mental restlessness, thirst, frequent urination, or turbid urine and impotence. There is poor appetite, gradual emaciation of the skin and muscles, or leg edema with thinning of the knees first. Taking this formula generates Kidney Water and descends Heart Fire, causing all symptoms to cease abruptly. It also treats persistent aphthous ulcers in the mouth and tongue.
