This condition must present with abdominal pain that is relieved by manual massage, a lack of thirst, and a slippery tongue coating. The patient prefers hot drinks over cold ones. The formula used is Sanhan Zhixie Tang (Cold-Dispersing Diarrhea-Stopping Decoction): Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria) (2 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (2 fen), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (1 fen), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (2 fen), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) (1 qian), Bai Dou Kou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (7 grains), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) (7 grains), Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root) and Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (2 qian each). All ingredients are ground into a fine powder, frequently applied to the mouth, and allowed to be swallowed naturally; this yields miraculous effects.
Infants refusing breast milk indicates heat in the Heart. Boiling milk with scallions for the infant to drink is also effective, but it is better to use Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (3 fen), decocted to obtain 1 fen of liquid, and administer several spoonfuls to the infant.
To treat persistent oozing from the umbilicus: Roast Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) until charred, grind into a fine powder, and apply topically to dry it immediately.
If an infant's umbilicus protrudes by about half a cun, this is due to vigorous Qi failing to consolidate. If not pressed urgently, it often transforms into opisthotonos (body bent backward like a bow). The formula uses: Fu Ling (Poria) (1 qian), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) (1 qian), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (3 fen), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (3 fen), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) (3 fen) [if Tong Cao is unavailable, use Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla) a pinch], Fei Zi (Torreya Seed) (5 pieces, shelled), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (3 fen). [Grind into powder, form pills with rice flour]. After two doses, the parasites will dissolve into water.
Shi Jun Zi (Quisqualis Fructus) (10 pieces, shelled and fried), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (1 qian each), Fei Zi (Torreya Seed) (10 pieces, shelled). Grind all into a fine powder, form pills with rice flour, sized like Sophora seeds. Take 10 pills per dose; parasites will be expelled within two days, and recovery occurs within five days.
Bai Bu Gen (Stemonae Radix) (5 qian), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen) (5 qian). Decoct in water and take; one dose expels all parasites.
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) prepared with refined white flour, Sheng Bai Fan (Alumen) (3 qian each). Grind into a fine powder, form pills using water drops, divide into three doses, and take with boiling water; the parasites will dissolve into water.
Si Gua Luo (Luffae Fructus Retinervus) (1 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 qian). Decoct in water and take.
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Gan Ge (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (3 liang), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) (3 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 qian). Decoct in water and take. This condition arises from the simultaneous flourishing and outward diffusion of Stomach Fire and Liver Meridian Fire. Unless it manifests as erysipelas, it will result in a rash. Using Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) in the formula is particularly effective, as it calms the fire in both the Liver and Spleen meridians. Assisted by other heavy-dose herbs, how could the fire fail to extinguish?
